This song isn't about any relationship..it is so deep and meaningful and not every other person can understand the lyrics .. this song talks about mental struggles to adjust with society and during this process you lose yourself and it just feels like you're just wearing a mask.. it also talks about how depressed one becomes when he tries to change himself entirely for someone else ... It's like living in a world of lie... Moral is don't try to change yourself for someone who doesn't care for you .. For this selfish world don't loose yourself 💜
relationship isn't a bad guess though - in a way it can be argued that the song is about social relationships not limited to romance or friendship. In east-Asian countries(From my experience, S.Korea & Japan) social conformity is a really big deal, and an individual's needs is often overlooked for the general public's well-being. Individuality is actually largely frowned upon, so there is great pressure to be just like everybody else. Combine that with the /general/ peace in the last few decades -- there is now a huge, overdue social problem where people are largely unhappy. For example, Japan and S.Korea are 4th and 1st countries with the lowest birthrates (2022), respectively. S.Korea has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, with Japan not being too far-off, though a notable amount of people die from overworking (Karoshi) there which probably isn't counted in suicide numbers. In a way, it's no wonder bubbly idols with optimistic images are so popular in these countries. Circling back to BTS -- if you're interested in stuff like this, I recommend watching 'Baepsae' live from them (++ if you can find one with subs), followed-up with an explainer video by S.Korean duo 'DKDKTV' called 'BAEPSAE (뱁새 / Crow Tit) Explained by a Korean'. I'm Japanese but moved to North America when I was 7. But Japanese common sense has been drilled into me by my parents, which is why I still have trouble with things like self-acceptance. Groups like BTS are a great breath of fresh air - there's nothing like a fellow azn telling u that it's ok to like urself(lol), or tell you their stories of their struggles.

But as LIE is directly connected with the storyline so from jimin's perspective it's about his life, his mental health... that's what I think it is.. And bapsae is a really good recommendation... I want them to react to bapsae( spine breaker) & silver spoon with the explanations by DKDKTV...
Interesting interpretation. I think RM said something differently (it is in "The Rise of Bangtan"-series). He spoke about Jimin's perfectionism. That when Jimin makes a mistakes his brain rips him apart/tells him lies about his abilities/how bad he is at what he does. Which was still true than but not later. Jimin struggled. It is not surprising that the clip of him being consoled by staff for 2 small mistakes - his voice broke and I think his mic fell off - is after a Lie performance. (I'm under impression that strictly speaking he had no one-on-one/real vocal lessons at that time - he is self taught from sitting in on Taehyung's and JK's lesson - at that point - he has had lessons since than - takes some at the moment, too - I think) Does it fit the BU? Yes... but that is not why those solo songs were made. The songs are personal - all of them - even when we don't have all explanations for them. 💜
LIE it's a true masterpiece and can have multiple interpretations of the meaning, but my favorite it's because in the beginning of the career Jimin was trying so much to put on a image of a strong man (he already talked about that in some bts interview) and with the time he realizes that he can just be himself. And the meaning of the song really speaks to me in this situation. I love Jimin so much he's such a amazing person we all can learn so much with.

Jiminie is a soft squishy ball but can also be so strong and masculine and these two are perfectly captured in his expression, dances and artistry. Also i love his latest photofolio, how he is telling us more about his gender identity and possibly sexuality? With the Apollo statures, the ysl LGBTQ shirt, the FREEDOM colours, his bigender tattoo and all the bisexual colors. I love him regardless if hes coming out as bi or just showing his ally-hip for bisexuals. Hes my little angel.

My favourite comment was from the Classical Musicians React where one duo was listening to this song and the guy who had never heard BTS before was confused about why they would put the chorus in major when the song was in minor, and the guy beside him - who knew a lot more about BTS and how deliberate they are in their music choices - said " I dunno, well the major might be a lie in and of itself." and his mind was absolutely blown lmao
I heard a interpretation from a reaction channel that major is used to showcase happy and upbeat vibes. So the fact that it is in major when he says "caught in a lie" is really smart cuz *the major is a lie, his happiness is a lie* Showing that you're happy when you are actually sad, putting on a front, a "lie" this song really depicts it. This is just a masterpiece from it's concept, music and lyrics. And the fact that there are so many interpretations of this song makes it really interesting.

Also, according to the bts story (not accurate) jimin witnessed a crime scene as a child and had a bad impact on his mental health ever since. He left school and was admitted to hospital where his friends (members) would come to meet him. He was lying that he was mentally ill when he was totally fine but pretending just so he could avoid witnessing it again

Yes!!! I'm not a musician, but I REALLY enjoy watching videos about musical theory and cords, and why certain songs are arranged as they are. Before, I used to just listen to music because it sounded good, but without any deeper knowledge of why the songs attract me. So I came across a group of classical musicians who reacted to this song. They ALL went ballistic at the major cord when the chorus starts. They were all screaming about how the cords were representative of the lyrics, and how genius that is. I felt REALLY proud to be ARMY, like I helped write the song , for some reason... 😭😂😂🤷🏽♀️💜

This song was mostly written by Jimin. It’s about the relationship within himself. He was lying to himself and it was hurting him. He went through a rough period where he wanted to be perfect for others constantly criticizing and doubting himself. Thank goodness he confronted this issue and started to love himself. Borahae 💜.

BTS just had a 2h concert today in a stadium filled with 100k people AND over 50M watching online live.
Lie, to me, is about having imposter syndrome and feeling inadequate. Jimin really struggled with this at the beginning of his career with BTS, making this song super personal to him. Such a masterpiece.
This song is so deep, and has such a personal meaning to Jimin himself - it talks about him being caught in a lie, especially in the early years of their careers, because he was pressured to keep a perfect figure and lose weight because the fans liked it, and the moment he began to slip in his diet/workout people pressured him even more by calling him fat. Because of this, his diets and workout routines began getting severe and dangerous, and he later revealed he would only eat 1 meal every 10 days. It's a lot more complicated than that and it has been a long process of him escaping that "lie", and all ARMY know he still struggles with it sometimes. So yeah, he wrote the song himself and it's about his personal journey, that's why it looks so real on stage when he performs it.
The 1 meal every ten days was a bad translation. It was "only 1 meal everyday for ten days". As in, instead of eating 3 meals a day as you SHOULD, he was eating once a day, for 10 consecutive days. As much as he's had his problems with body dismorphia and crash dieting, it was exaggerated by people who wanted to create a toxic narrative that Jimin was self-destructive. It was obviously a struggle for him like we ALL have struggles, but it wasn't THAT crazy. Please correct anyone else who says that, as it wasn't true, and ppl were shown the correct translation of his words, right after, but some chose to carry on with the WRONG one, even though K-Armies gave the correct one straight away. 💜
I hope OP attends to this correction and refrains from spreading this skewed narrative...it is somewhat disrespectful after all these years.

I think it was Summer who saved the day to actually explain what the song was about when one of the cousins was saying oh it is a happy song. BTS will mix more upbeat music with serious subjects so as not to overwhelm listeners with dark subjects. While grooving to melodies is a Western default, it is valuable not to stray from a song's communication. The reason BTS speaks to so many people is because they more often than not actually are speaking to people.
Friends, it seems that stage mixes don't get blocked as often. Not sure if that would work for you or not but you may want to try it. Thanks for working to get this up. It is fun to see what you enjoy and take from each song.
The Lie jimin is talking about in the song are the lies his mind would tell himself about not being "good enough". Jimin is a perfectionist and often used to be much too hard on himself over really tiny mistakes. According to the rest of BTS, he's the hardest worker among them and pushes himself to extremes to give the fans the best performance possible every single time. Lie is about how those negative thoughts in your head can make you feel like you're in hell even when externally it looks like you have no reason to not be happy. He's grown to be much more kinder to himself now though! An interesting little fun fact about the composition of the song is that in the chorus the key change is a "lie", a fun little alignment of the music, lyrics and choreo. Jimin wrote all of Lie by himself and has co-composer and producer credits as well on this song. Jimin also worked extremely hard on the dancing and made his own changes to make it fit the song perfectly.

Everyone wonders how all members can sing and dance at the same time. They practice singing while on treadmills. None of the members lipsync like American artist do. Suga proved that years ago during a live performance of Micdrop. They work very hard to perfect their artistry and do it very well. Lie is my favorite Jimin live performance. Thanks for the reaction.

This song and performance is a peace of art. Magnificent classical sound, deep lyrics, amazingly expressive vocals, beautiful and captivating choreography and mesmerizing Jimin. Jimin had full participation in the writing and composition of this masterpiece. Each solo in the Wings album is related to the BU (bangtan Universe) aka the fictional storyline witch run threw MV and albums since "I need you", specially the short films. So the lyrics of Lie fits to the fictional character played by Jimin but it's also related to Jimin himself, the struggles he faced, and we can feel the authentic emotions and pain. The Wings album revolves around the concept of Hermann Hesse’s novel, ‘Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair’s Youth’, a coming of age piece that uses myths and references to follow the journey of a young boy to self-realization. One of the key points of this book is the importance of accepting the “dualism”, the idea of two opposing forces (maybe good and bad or truth vs fake) that are both necessary in life. This idea is portrayed by Jimin’s solo where we see an inner fight between his two sides, his true and insecure self, and this mask that he created to face the world but is swallowing him up (as in the verse : the prey vs the snake) . Also you have noticed the color changing : red/blue, dark/light... It’s a complex song where metaphors, vocal and music composition details mix to vignette a cry for help. A good example of text painting : "caught in a lie" is the only line of the song in a major key (usually associated with happiness), while the rest of the song is in a minor key (usually associated with sadness, mystery, unease). So, the line "caught in a lie" is itself a lie amongst the rest of the song - the "happiness" is a lie. This song is a portrait of what struggling with your identity, insecurities and inner demons is. RM explained that Jimin used to blame himself for all the failures and shortcomings, having thoughts like “I’m not good enough, I can’t do this” and that he wrote the song reflecting that mentality. Knowing this reflective way of working to deliver an honest history is why this song is so important for so many ARMY. Jimin's journey to self love is so inspiring for a lot of us. The choreography and interpretation is incredible too .Jimin seems to 'punch the beat'. Lie has been popular all through the years, being the most streamed solo song from the WINGS album. Now Lie by Jimin being refered to as a rite of passage for rookie idols, they cover LIE as a show of their vocal and dance capabilities, as the song is considered to be highly technical in both aspects.
The switch to major in the chorus for this song will forever be one of my favorite music moments ever, bc they LITERALLY lie to us by convincing us that the song is in minor just for it to suddenly switch to major during the chorus. Genius.

I love this song. It’s a song about struggling with perfectionism and getting caught up in the lies you tell yourself that bring you down. It has an amazing build up to release. Jimin used to have many inner struggles but has grown to love himself more everyday. 💜

The "caught in a lie" MAJOR chord is a LIE, his happiness is a LIE because of the mask he has/ had been putting on. For me this song's lyrics, musicality and Jimin's performance is a masterpiece. Just a perfect amalgamation of raw-real feelings!
Fr! That and the fact they said "oh there's light!" when Jimin sings "Caught in a lie", to me, is very interesting bcs it's true. Imo it was very much planned that light would appear then bcs it also correlates to the fact that truth came out, the lie is no longer hidden. Thus, it further deepens the performance and meaning of the song.
He uses a backing track….that is ALL Jimin’s voice layered over for the original track. He absolutely sings it live….but given he can’t obviously sing all of his parts on stage…..he sings live over his track. He is phenomenal. FYI….he is talking about himself….this was when he was discovering and uncovering his true talent…..who he is and wants to be as an artist💜
I just love that when he says "lie" in "caught in a lie", that's the exact moment it turns into a major key. Like the major is a lie? The "happiness"? You're faking the happiness and you've lost yourself? When the whole song is about living a lie? Damn that's genius how do you think of that?

funny you asked for a bts rock song....they just had their Yet To Come concert in Busan, South Korea and they performed Run BTS (not to be confused with Run by Bts) the song is called Run BTS by BTS. look up the live performance, the choreography is insane I don't know how they didn't pass out after that song honestly. it's on youtube you'll find it. please react to it you wont be disappointed I promise!!!! i literally cannot stop watching that performance it is just amazing.
‘Lie’ lyrics was mainly written by Jimin & he also took some part in composing as well. In Vlive, Jimin said during that time, he was going through hard times but tried to convince & lied to himself & people close to him that he was OK, everything was OK, but he has finally realized that he was deceiving himself & to those he loves. He said he wrote ‘Lie’ lyrics while working through those troubled emotions. Jimin is the most artistic, ethereal, elegant & beautiful performer not only in BTS but also in whole Kpop industry. There is no any Kpop idol who could deliver this kind of beautifully artistic performances with full of emotions like Jimin & that is why so many rookie idols(over 50 idols)has covered all of his solo performances & posted on Utube to show off their talents, especially Jimin’s’ performance, which they named it as ‘Rookie’s bible’ & that is why Jimin has been chosen as ‘The Performance King of Kpop’, ‘The Dance King of Kpop’, ‘The Stage King of Kpop’ for last 5 years in a row. 👍👍👍👏👏👏💜💜💜

@@e0n555 Personally I think First Love by Yoongi has the same energy, I mean is he dancing in that song, no but that performance is one of the most powerful performances within BTS' solo performances, you might not agree but in terms of songs and meaning in songs, there's a lot of powerful songs, another one would be Boy meets evil by Hobi, Stigma by Tae, Awake by Jin, Begin by Jk. and pretty much every song on Mono (I know there's not any performances but I'm saying in music aspect). You might not agree with me, but personally Awake, Begin, Stigma, & First Love hit me harder in emotion wise and had more depth to them compared to Lie. We'll have to just agree to disagree :)

This is the song and choreography that cemented Jimin's status as Rookie's Bible. So many rookie idols have covered this, (not usually singing while dancing. usually the dancing only because this is a very challenging choreography. Anyone who doesn't have the technical skills and stage presence looks like flailing duck when they try this, lol). Six yrs later and other idols are still covering this😭
great vid guys!!! i know you had a lot of problems with this one but please know we appreciate you guys and your efforts :)) about the song: lie is a part of the wings album, where all of the members had solo songs (since daniel and gabriel play piano, i recommend you guys listen to first love by suga - there is only lyrics videos for this one - and stigma by v, cause you seem to have liked his style in the guide). this one is about jimin lying to himself or being lost inside himself, its a very personal and emotional song and musicians usually love it, because the entire song is in minor i believe, but (as you guys pointed out) it switches to major when he says "caught in a lie". that abrupt change feels disingenuos, almost like a lie itself, its absolutely genius (im not sure i did a good job explaining it tho lol) i hope you guys will see solos by each member, and of course some live performances of the whole group. im sure tou are aleady being flooded with sugestions so i will stop here lol. please stay healthy, love you guys!!

lie, a masterpiece that holds its grip on you both musically and visually. the lyrics, jimin vocals have this breathtaking desperation that wraps around your heart, a little cage of your own. the stage performance being this forever haunting musical act. mesmerising on all fronts💗😇
The history about the changing lights is sweet. Before the light color tech, ARMY just had white light sticks they bought from BigHit. So the fans would organize and make messages with the audience by mapping out the venue seats and giving them colored plastic bags to put over their lights. It was the most impactful way to communicate immediately with BTS on the stage. I think it started in Brazil but another ARMY can correct me if I’m wrong 😅. I believe around 2016/17, the tech for changing light colors was being offered for the light sticks so BigHit changed to a new version of lightstick. I think its Bluetooth tech but I don’t know specifically, r/eddit has a discussion about it in their lighting subforum bc it’s a little complicated. Anyway even before the pandemic, BigHit retrofitted their older Bluetooth light sticks to sync with their online performances so that people at home could join in the color changes. I found that to be really cool.
This song hits really harder when you know the Storyline.....!😭 It still gives me chills whenever I listen to this song, not only this but every song in their Album Wings from 2016.....!

Lie is a great example of text painting, when the musical composition reflects the meaning of the lyrics or story of the song. So as you noticed and others have said, the song is in a minor key and the switch to major is a “lie” reinforcing the message of the lyrics. I know that it’s difficult to catch this in a first listen. BTS do it in some of their other songs too. It’s fun to keep it in mind as you go back and listen again with good lyrics translations in front of you. And then when you look for the way the choreography tells the story too, it’s enough to keep you revisiting the same songs over and over to find all of the meanings.
Jimin took part in the composition of LIE too when he was 17/18❤❤❤
This was definitely a masterpiece but here's a fact, Jimin's 'Lie' era was actually not one of his favorites, Jimin said in one of their episodes that 'Lie' was too dark and heavy and a lil bit depressing for him so he doesn't really want to do the same kind of music again. Hope you can react to BTS' song RUN BTS and their latest performance of it in their Yet To Come concert in Busan that just finished earlier. 🥰💜

I'm sure there are other songs with electric guitars, I seem to remember other reactors commenting on it, but unfortunately I don't remember which songs because I don't really pay attention to the instrumentations.
Suga/agust d has quite a few songs on his mixtape’s. I believe the one with Max (from D2) and his first Samsung ringtone remaster. DNA (Pedal 2 LA Mix) I believe has electric guitar.
Dionysus has electric guitar in it. And for sure there was electric guitar at Hobipalooza!
Boy In Luv is usual considered to be pretty rock influenced (Danger too). Suga loves to include electric guitars in his stuff. He put a whole 1-2 min guitar solo in So Far Away ft. Suran (the instrumentation is different in the one with the members). Tomorrow also includes a sort of guitar solo. A lot of their live performances that include a live band have a lot more electric guitar (evidenced by the recent concert in Busan, they put a hella of a lot of electric in there). There are other songs too, but it is usually more subtle. Edit: everythingoes has an electric (it’s a collab with Nell so…) Forever Rain, too (very obvious too). Edit 2: I’m pretty certain that’s an electric guitar in Sea. Yeah it is, in fact I think there might be multiple. Edit 3: Yeah, I’m pretty sure there’s a guitar in Danger. It isn’t that obvious to me though. Well, except for the at the end. War of Hormone is quite rock influenced and I’m pretty sure it has electric guitar. There a smidgen of guitar in Let Me Know. Could You Turn Off Your Cell Phone is a maybe. I’m pretty sure Embarrassed/Blanket Kick is a yes. I think it’s another yes for 24/7 Heaven, but it’s not very obvious. There’s some type of strings going on in Look Here. I have no idea for 2nd Grade, I’m leaning on no??? Edit 4: Miss Right is a definite yes. Edit 5: Winter Bear has an electric at the end. It could also be considered a rock song.

@@yourfriendlyneighbor7165 Ah yeah. I might periodically come back to this and update it. I'm not expert on genre or instrumentation though. I do know that rock is a much broader genre than most people tend to realize though. There are a lot of things that can be consider rock (or at the very least rock influenced), that a lot of people wouldn't think of when they think of "rock music". I would love for BTS to make more classically rock songs, though. I think they would be good at it.

The reason why Lie is one of my fav song is because of the hauntingly beautiful instrumentals, the song lyrics and meanings, it has the most challenging choreography, visuals, text painting, tension and release, etc. And lastly, the main reason why I love it, is because of Jimin. I've seen a lot of covers of Lie and nothing hits you better than the original.

Yeah, he got freeed indeed. This song is about Jimin's struggles. I think he wrote it. BTS is always involved in some aspect of their music. Whether it's composing, writing, producing, etc. They are unlike any other artist I've seen. They just have it all. And they do have a rock album. I think it's called 'dark and wild'.

The solos that this album is from are very deep and can be taken in multiple ways. All of them can be related to the storyline, but they also tell very personal stories for each of the members. The majority of them are heartbreaking, including this one. The lie that Jimin is caught in is the difference between how he sees himself and how ARMY sees him. In the past, he felt that he had to try and become the person that he felt ARMY thought him to be. He also felt that that person didn't and couldn't actually exist, so he was caught in a lie and miserable. Since then, he's grown and matured. His more recent solo, Filter, is kind of a follow up song to this one. In Lie, he fells that he has to try and change himself to fit ARMY's image of him. In Filter, he recognizes that ARMY can have different view of him while he still remains who he truly is under those images. Mentally, he is a much better place than when Lie came out. It's heartbreaking to realize how much pressure he put on himself and how miserable he really was back then.
Proportionally 99% of BTS songs are not about girls/hetero romance. They are about the self or platonic or fan love.

when you look into the meaning of the song and them watches his dancing you get the story. it´s about his inner struggles of being loved for something he is not. in the beginning of bts he was told to be the sexy member with muscles. and he hated that. jimin is shy sweet and innocent he is more angel and baby face. so he had to pretend to be a tuff guy. but it started from when he was little. Busan the town he was born in is known for having tuff cool guys fighters and he tried for many years to become that. he has a black belt in taekwondo and has been training kendo (sword fight) for 8 years. he was also a top student in school, he did everything to fit in, but he still felt like he was lacking and i think he was ashamed that he was not like anyone else that he was more famine and shy and kindhearted. so to find a way to escape from this hell he was drawn to contemporary dance because he could express what he could not tell anyone. and this song is about him breaking free from his chains or at least he is trying to.
Lie is one of my favorite songs for the production of it, really can’t think of another song quite like it

Guys if you want to listen to rock. You have to listen to Jhope's MORE! As a rock fan I was THRILLED when Jhope suddenly came out with that grungy style of music, because it's the total opposite from what he normally does, but I absolutely loved it! Actually not just the song, but the whole album was amazing and then he performed at lollapalooza, which just tripled the exitement for me. He was awesome! When you will be into this BTS rabbit hole thingy, u will realize their discography and lyrics in every songs have symbolism and a continuous story. Like a mystery book waiting to be unfolded. Honestly, its their life story of pain, sorrow, tribulations, friendship, their fight within their own individual selves (eg. their own shadow n society's), needs vs. wants, . Their growth n dev't mentally, emotionally, n socially...etc. That is why BTS n Army has this special strong bond, bc all of us can relate to their feelings. Their songs is like a cathartic effect to each 1 of us regardless of race, ethnicity, or even religion 😊
