Why Muscle Makes You LESS ATHLETIC 💪🏼❌

Muscle mass is bad for athletes. This is because of the strength to mass ratio. Ja Morant is stronger than a bodybuilder and here's why.

    • You’re only showing one form of athletes. Basketball players build most of the time are tall and lanky. There are exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking most of them don’t have a lot of mass to them in general. Also being explosive does not always correlate with out right strength. You can be extremely explosive but not be as strong as someone the same size as you. Overall I think this logic is a little flawed.

  • Muscle Μass doesn't necessarily make you slower. It's a compilation of genetics, tendon health and myofibrillar to sarcoplasmic mass ratio. Most muscle mass on athletes is myofibrilllar (which generates force) but bodybuilders focus on sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (which is the storage for more muscle fibers)

    @scp055@scp055 Жыл бұрын
    • True,there are muscle strength training and muscle hypertrophy training. If you want strength you do strength training if you wanna look good you do hypertrophy training. Some people do have both though (like mike tyson),and they're way stronger compared to others in their field because the muscles also acts as armor rather than just being a strength source.

But power how fast a muscle can be called into contraction is pretty much Gene's, think standing vertical jump. U can get stronger get little faster with technical training and sprinting. closer the distance less it can be trained. Such as the 40 yard dash very genetic like vertical. 2 best trained systems in the body are cardio and strength training. Cardio is aerobic oxygen based and strength training is ATP and suger based system that power the muscle. Like I said above how much muscle that can be called into contraction by a nerve aka motor unit is Gene's. I could go on little more about neuroscience but that would be to much typing. @jasonphan2001@jasonphan2001 Жыл бұрын
    • @@jasonphan2001 I won't disagree with that, but a large amount of football players were sprinters in the past throughout highschool and/or college. Maybe at the highest level they wouldn't beat them, but some would definitely be close if we are choosing outliers. There's definitely a certain body type thats appropriate for certain activities and absolutely in athletics the car analogy works well. However, when it comes to just pure athletics, if you take a football or rugby player, and take the time to teach them the game of basketball, or you take a basketball player and teach them the basics of football, then you will notice that the difference is actually skill and not size. There will be certain advantages in terms of size like being thinner in basketball to be able to split a defender and drive the net or bigger in rugby and football to be able to absorb a hit or run through someone, but simply saying muscle makes someone less athletic is untrue in the highest degree. Andre DeGrasse doesn't need to be hit, so hes just gotta be thin and powerful so he can excel at his sport like you said, but if he was also given the time to learn the basics of a sport, he could play pretty much anything based on pure athletics alone, and that's the same for pretty much anyone at the highest level of their respective sport.

Now athletic sports has moved into efficiency based training and game plans to ensure statistically that a tea can win, thats why Jokic has won 2 mvps in a row, and muscular development isn't valued as much as fitness and stamina (byproducts of a leaner athlete like kevin durant) because muscular growth and training doesn't result in the same statistical results as fundamentals and aerobic performance (fitness).

  • Luckily I’ve been able to maintain the best of both worlds. Skateboarded most of my life and started lifting at 29. 3 years later I’ve put 25 lbs of lean mass on but still kept my vertical and sprint explosiveness. You just need to be aware and do maintenance stretch routines to keep your flexibility. “Hard to kill” is the motto.

    @proteinmonster@proteinmonster Жыл бұрын
  • Body builders also aren't *usually* sprinting, doing agility drills, and jumping. Muscle mass isn't necessarily bad, but you need to keep up with training the athletic movements as well. Its the lack of that kind of training causing the awkward movements, not the muscle mass itself.

    • Brother if you put Lebron James next to a bodybuilder or wrestler he will look lean but small. Look at a guy like Karl Malone he is 100% bigger than bron at the same height. But take a look at the footage of Karl in the WWE against other wrestlers he looked tiny, let alone Lebron James

    @gamerobscurius1786@gamerobscurius178611 ай бұрын
  • Well their strength also influences their game as you see 6”10 kid shooting more then dunking while he’s more lean but 6”9 Lebron dunking more then shooting because he weighs more and can dominate more in that area. That is why when Shaq was in his prime he put a lot of muscle on his arms because his whole game was revolved around the inside and bodying his opponents

  • Putting on mass while increasing strength to mads ratio can be very good cuz unincrease total force output and lb for lb strength. I gained a lot of strength with calosthenics and I also include weight training and now I learn olympic lifts. So I’m different than a marathoner or basketballnplayer that doesnt make me less athletic because I have more mass. Cuz I also train athletic movement.

  • Yes but that's for as you say, athletes. In everyday life having big muscles is an advantage. If you compete in or you really like one of those sports and you want to perform the best in it then what he says applies to you. But for every other person this video should not be taken as an excuse to be skinny. Work hard and get muscles, it will improve every aspect of your life, performing better except if it's your job won't make your life better.
