The most advance automated garage in the world. Welcome to automated parking. Here a car is parked by a computerized system. APT PARKING is the sole creator of this video.

  • I am a customer there. The system had a ton of problems in the past. Everything from mechanical failures to software issues. The software was written by graduates fresh off uni who sat in the technician's cabinet for months trying to work the kinks out of the system, and even then there were tons of issues like the garage simply claiming that your car was not parked there. It was apparent the developers just lacked the experience to work on a complex realtime system with so many moving and interlocked parts. The maintenance technicians also had years of nightmares there. One technician had a platform start to move and hit his head, he went to the hospital and then came back with a bandaged head to finish the work (!). But most importantly, the system is so mechanically complex that it is very prone to failure. Box 2 has been out of service for half a year now (May 2014 at the time of writing) and is just being used as tire storage for the owner. And if the system is not at fault, the other drivers will make sure that you will be stuck for hours there by not correctly parking their car, just giving up and leaving the car in the box (!) - as if to say "let someone else sort out my messy driving". And if that all works by miracle some other guy forgets to engage the parking brake, causing his car to roll off the platform underground, and grinding the whole system to a standstill. This is the Windows Vista of parking garages. Kudos to the maintenance technicians to eventually got it running reasonably well, but shame on the developers of that whole thing.

    • if what you say is real, it's interesting how they're trying to see their skills here. XD

    • mlsi Well we are no longer customers there. We're now in a regular garage and though that takes up more space overall, it's such a difference knowing you can just go and retrieve your car at any time. And not having to fear that you might not get your car because the garage is broken.

  • Jeez parking is expensive enough already. I've paid up to 40 dollars for a few hours of parking here in Toronto; I can't image how much more expensive that system is.

  • @mysongbook - LOL, yes! These are brilliant! The city of The Hague, Netherlands is building one now in the city center - under an existing canal. An innovative solution to a dispute over parking space versus green space in the city core.

  • @porschefan102 I had the same thought, most cars have tilt sensors to detect movement... But then again the movements dont seem much more than a car being buffeted by a gust of wind. A good test, go rock a more modern car roughly see if it goes off? My only question.. what if you just needed to grab something out of your car? thats a lot of effort!

  • I once thought I had invented this method of parking based on the Numbers game in a square you got as a child sixteen spaces and fifteen squares you shuffled them round till they where in order! The thing about this today is you could phone when you are on your way to collect your car and it could be bought down towards the front so you only have a few minutes to wait?

  • we have something better in Miami and because of how much more space can be utilized when parking cars with a system like that (no need to open doors, driveways, room to walk etc) it's actually about the average price, the trick is that were it used to park 40 cars, now it parks about 150... maybe 200, depending on the project.

    @aan3@aan312 жыл бұрын
  • Japan pioneered 'Thunderbirds' car-park 'weeks-ago' [decade-or-more]; why is this NOT the NORM? Abandoning on-street parking in-favour of automated-parking releases the inside-lane for busses & emergency-services [NOT-taxis], reduces criminal-damage & auto-theft; okay WILL create bottle-necks movie-theatre 'chucking-out', office start-&-end times... More benefits than drawbacks; personally, I would integrate 'latest-variant' with EVERY new building-development, tourist-attraction...
