Ohhh, check out the work on our Square, excited to have "Chateau Sand" on the square. Also work on ceilings, a look at flowering plants, an old find from 1902, and lots more. And don't miss the meal at the end.

  • Rob .... don't learn this the hard way dude ....get you some work shoes before you really get hurt . Climbing a ladder or doing stairs in flip flops or house slippers is VERY VERY DANGEROUS !!! Use your God given wisdom here !!

  • I love the new ceiling! It looks wonderful! Be sure to fertilize your shrubs that you are cutting back. Maybe that will get rid of the caterpillars for good. The shrubs need the fertilizer to help recover from the heavy trimming . It’s looking good at your Chateau now! You really can move forward since your roof is sealed. Those constant drips were drowning all of your hard work. The Light is winning! Hallelujah!!

  • I can assure you Rob that all the students that are fortunate enough to get to come will fondly remember their time at the Chateau and traveling in Europe. To be honest when you talk about it I too get a tad emotional as It is just so beautiful what you are all giving to these young people. The harsh reality is with out you all doing this, the vast majority of kids would never have the opportunity to experience even a fraction of what they will. They will always remember their time at Chateau de la Grifferaie fondly and with great love.

The weeds will grow back, so plan to scrape frequently. On a plus note, you scored big time with the pink curtains and tie-backs! It's all coming together!

  • Those hedges are a bit of work. You could try and replace them with a bug resistant evergreen. In the long run it would save you from having to use pesticides. There are some pretty fast growing ones that will look good even in winter. I don't know your zone or soil but you might want to look into it. I am glad the chateau has a full time caretaker. It will be awesome to see her restored. You could also in the off season (when most planting and prep is done)partner with local universities that need internships . Students that are studying, architecture, restoration, landscaping architecture , etc to help the chateau along the way. Even partneting with those learning trades such as roofing, carpentry, plumbing and electrical. House and feed them and let them help restore the chateau. The best to you all.

  • ❤ Love watching the work you have done on the Chateau. Looking forward to seeing what you do next. They golden color sand really makes the Chateau's exterior glow. Love the pink curtains and the tiebacks. 🧦I have a suggestion for keeping the amount of sand brought inside.Make reusable shoe covers or use painter's disposable shoe covers. Keep a supply of the largest size sport socks (like basketball knee-high socks) & cut open one side to the ankle to allow someone to slip over your shoes and walk inside without tracking sand. Socks are washable & can be keep in a box/basket at the doors to reduce the amount of sand being tracked indoor. Lengthy explanation but I hope it helps.

  • The square just sets the chateau on a horizon. Its very dramatic!! The hedge is soooooo much better. Your hard work payed off. Im glad your intent on saving the boxwoods, they are worth it. The scraped, filled, sanded, primed and painted ceilings look fabulous. Because I have watched you for years I have seen this a number of times, but it is so worth the beauty of it. All is done for God, a action with eternal reward. All of this will thrill the students memories of a special time in their lives when they drew close to God as they reminiscent...

  • Progress has really ramped up since you moved in to stay - the colour match of sand and chateau walls is beautiful. Without a doubt the weeds will return but if you get yourself a propane tank and a flame nozzle, you can burn them off before they get a chance to take hold. Glad to see whenever you get a team of helpers in to divide and conquer tasks, motivate and energize you. Stay awesome.

I wondered why you only put sand on the square around the chateau and not gravel as you put on the driveway. Won’t the sand be a bit messy, less durable than gravel and also get wet when it rains?

  • FYI: Rob, are you aware there is green dye you can add to the insecticide you're applying to the boxwood hedge? It will make it look much better while you fight to save them? It's only a temporary cosmetic fix. Here in the mid south USA some people apply the green dye to their dormant lawn grass to enhance the appearance in late winter. Here in TX almost every lawn and garden department sells several colors. Blues and reds are used to leave evidence so we can see where we have already sprayed. Cuts down on waste of duplicate application. If I were you I be looking for some INSECT RESISTANT BOXWOOD to replace the originals. I know they exist, just not sure if available in France. Leslie is right, that boxwood feature is valuable. Hope you two get some rest before your guests arrive :)

  • I found this comment, you would always PVA the ceiling before applying plaster so it creates a good bond. as for myself being in the trade for years+ I sometimes recommend using masonry paint if the ceiling suffers from bad damp or mould from poor fresh air circulation. The reason I do this is because no interior paint has the strength and durability of the masonry paint and UV protection as well as all weathering conditions."

  • Are you going to put stone on top of the sand? I would think if you don’t there is going to be a lot of sand tracked into the Chateau; which won’t do your nice parquet floors any good. • May God continue to bless all the friends of the chateau and grow the dream and mission of the chateau. Pardon me for asking? What is the difference between the sand that was already in the "Square" and the yellow sand? I thought you wanted to reduce the occurrence of ruts. The new sand will produce just as many ruts as before. Sand around the perimeter of the chateau? Won't alot of sand end up inside every floor of the chateau, ruining the finish on your floors? Do you have heavy winds occasionally? How will you maintain the crisp edges between sand and grass and gravel (on the main drive) and grass? Every time you mow with the riding mower you will be throwing sand and gravel. Additionally, dulling the mower blade. I wonder if this additional sand is creating more or less maintenance for the chateau? I will be patient and continue to enjoy the channel. I want to see how you finish the top floors. I want to see what happens to the old stables and the old restaurant area. Continue on with prayers for much success of you goals and mission.
