The fact Mogilny isn't in the hall of fame is a disgrace.
The NHL is a joke
David Bondy it’s because of the fact he defected and they didn’t really support him and bure came after the Wall went down and it’s just a black eye for them they don’t want to acknowledge . On the contrary the sabres and the organization and Bush Sr. And Yale lawyers need the medal of freedom, they helped Alexander escape persecution and have liberty.
Superstar player, AND, 1st Russian player, and I believe 1st non N. American player to be named a team captain.
It's embarrassing, really.
Canadians afraid of Russians
How he isn't in the HHOF is ridiculous. He was such a beast.
What a talent he was. Sundin says that he was the most talented player he ever played with.
That's not hard the amount of scrubs Sundin played with as a leaf lol
Attila Farsang yeah, he’s no Jonas Hoglund but who is?
@@attilafarsang9222 sad but true xD Sundin really didn't get a lot of help xD
I've always said this. The only real scoring talent Sundin ever had. I LOVE Gary Roberts and Steve Thomas and they were awesome in the playoffs, but they weren't gonna threaten to win the scoring race. Every time I saw Sundin and Mogilny on a 2-on-1 I KNEW that it was a goal. Sundin was such a great playmaker and Alex the Great could skate and he could score with the best of 'em.
@@attilafarsang9222 sundin played also with lafleur, sakic (quebec) and forsberg (national team)
One of the best duos ever, mogilny and lafontaine
Christian Neureuter don't forget he also teamed up with the "russian rocket" numerous times during his hockey career...
Christian Neureuter YES!!! Almost unbelievable those 2!!!
How does a team ever trade a guy like this?
Mogilny bure
What a shame buffalo let other team take liberties with Lafontaine and couldn't protect him.
76 goals in a season & Sergei Fedorov says he was the most talented of the Russian Army Players. Should be in the Hall of Fame.
That just tells you how amazing mogilny was if fedorov another talented Russian says mogilny was the best out of the Russians he should of been in the hall of fame long time ago
@@frankthetank819 Sure does , Gretzky and a few other players had also highly spoke of Fedorov during his Hart Trophy era of being a top player. So ya it speaks volumes, and is almost the best compliment as a player you could get when your peers speak well or highly of your abilities.
@@lightningsmokerXx yeah most definitely 👍🔥
76 goals while missing 7 games that year. A full season at that rate is just shy of 83 goals. Insane. Even more insane is his absence from the Hockey Hall of Fame.
@frankthetank819 he's definately quite talented. He was a little older than Fedorov and Bure which probably made a little difference when they were in Russia. Not sure who was the fastest or the best among those three. Very subjective. I hope he gets in the hall too.
dude deserves to be in the HOF. seriously hes a triple winner and over 1000 ppg. if it wasnt for injuries he probably gets 600 goals
Unreal skill level for the era. He would still score 50 today To me that’s the most impressive thing.
I’m too young to know any better but his skating looked way ahead of its time
Gilbert Perrault redux.
One of the greatest goal scorers
he kicked ass in the old NHL games on Sega Genesis
Federov was better
tim miller not in nhl94 for genesis. Which is the best of the bunch
Bear Roenick was the best player of NHL '94. Five-man unit of Goulet, JR, Larmer, Chelios, and Smith was an unstoppable force.
One 7 Decimal 2 Eight Hahaha yes he did!
Word he did I just was telln my co worker how I kno him
When you watch old clips of guys like Mogilny, you can see the birth of so many plays that modern players incorporate into their game. That agile move where he goes into the zone with a burst but then quickly pulls the puck back with a little dangle is one of them. No way Ovechkin didn't grow up watching that then go out in practice and try it himself.
Andrew Persaud exactly!
If I'm not mistaken Mogilny was Ovi's favorite player growing up.
It's was Soviet Sistem of growing great players.. It's Shame, that now we took Canadian primitive sistem so called in Russia " throw and run " and exept - Canadians took our Soviet sistem of combinational hockey to goin in atack zone..
By “throw and run” do you mean dump and chase?
@@kozmeetorez Yeah.. My english not so clear, and I don't use translaters like google or something like.. Thanks for promt, buddy👍Now I know like it whould be right to tell what I ment.
Check that speed with the Sabres , it was just before he got his leg broke in 3 when Bellows fall on it, i couldn't imagine if he didn't suffer that terrible injury that cause so much problems later !!! He played with one replaced hip his first year with the Leafs and manage to beat Sundin for the Leafs team lead, the only time Sundin didn't finish first on his team !!! Without that , he would easily get 600-700 goals and probably around 1500 points !!! When a guy manage to score 56 goals playing in a line with Ronning and Odgick, he got a sure talent !!! Oh and Scott Gomez will forever thank him for his RC of the year and huge contract he made after that with the Rangers !!!
Sure brings back memories. One of the greatest players of his generation. Skated like grease lightning and scored goals like no one's business. Also a Stanley Cup champion. Not sure what else he needed to do to get into the HoF. Anyone who's seen him play knows he should be in as first ballot.
Favorite player as a kid. Him and LaFontaine were lethal. In the 1990 World Junior Championships, the Russians had a top line of - P. Bure - Fedorov - Mogilny. That is pure blazing speed and talent - probably the best scoring line in the history of hockey. In 1990 no one was be able to keep up with their speed. Hell, even today I doubt anyone could... Great video whoever posted it, and thank you; definitely brought back a lot of great memories #nostalgia #AlexanderTheGreat #HallOfFamer
in the history of hockey? lol no son.
You realize Gretzky and Lemieux played on the same line together right?
@@UstashaMe84 Yeah but Gretzky was slow as a duck. Those 3 were just steamrolling through every defence ...
today's nhl talent pool is a joke compared to the early 90's..
@@mart_en Gretzky was deceptively fast
Still a disgrace that hes not in the HOF what a joke
He played in a high scoring era and only has 2 50 goal seasons, was the best goal scorer only once. Borderline case at best
I know, he won just about every championship that there is. Great player
@@maxrcrypto what a joke he did not play in high scoring era, he was one of the best right wing of all time
@Y G Look at statistics for the 92-93 season. 14 players! 14 had over 50 goals, so scoring 76 in that season isn't as great as you think.
@Y G He was also never a first team all-star
My favourite player as a kid
One of the greatest players in the history of the NHL. This guy was underrated.
A player that could do everything exceptionally well. I've never seen a guy bend a game to his will like this guy did
I watched a game at GM Place, his first year as a Canuck. Oh man he was amazing, I mean Canucks had Bure and Mogilny but what I noticed about Mogilny during that game was that he could take over the flow of the game. He was fast like Bure but he can slow down quickly then all of a sudden he's in 6th gear again, blowing past the defence man. It was a treat to watch him live. Sad that HHOF has not invited him yet.
I still can't believe him and Bure were together on my Canucks. A lot of raw talent and speed.
Bro the Sabres royal blue jerseys were awesome.
J C We’re getting them back next season!
@@jillt5405 Unfortunately, it got a lot worse. Another last place finish.
He made it look so easy. His fluidity in close is mesmerizing. Underrated talent absolutely
Alexander The GREAT! I was so happy when he joined the New Jersey Devils(Though I followed him his whole career). I still have his Devils sweater.
Bure, Mogilny, Fedorov played together in Red Army and were my favourite
And Kamensky.
@@renatbest78g69 yes, but those three played together
Almost every goal here was highlight worthy. Great montage
These are highlights...
A. Mogilny legenda sovietskogo hockeya, i svezda NHL. Silno igral Alexandr
@@user-zi1eq7sw1s which team? The Red Army?
Man Mogilny was such a great player!! Loved watching him go!
"Loved watching him go!"??? Pal, this phrase sounds ambiguous, don't you think? :))
Bure-Fedorov-Mogilny the best three during all the time existence of hockey
I had them on the same line in NHL96
yeah to bad they rarely played togheter..just druing 88-89 juniors? if I remeber it correctly or 88-90..Im swedish but i still remeber sport media talking about problaby the new big USSR line that was suppose to take over after KLM, and Bykov, Kamensky, Schomotov lines since they was getting old. But they al become stars in NHL instead, I always liked Fedorov as one of the most allround player with good shot, passing ability, fast as well as good at defence, Mogilny had some of those skills to ppl tend to forget he wasnt just a sniper, but alsy had playmaking abilty..and then ofc Bure the russian rocket..what a line ..
@@Tom-cj1ge nah man, Mogilny fits the bill over Jagr
@@Lightsydephil jagr was a big physical force but mogilny was more gifted
I could throw Datsyuk in there somewhere too
Man, I didn't know Mogilny had such a killer inside-out deke. He was lightening going to his backhand and covered so much space. I don't think any player was better at it than that.
Yeah really. His dekes look rare for players today to pull off at that speed and he was doing it in the early 90s...
Mogilny, Bure, & Federov.... my dream lineup in the early NHL games on snes!
Mogilny ...one of my favorite players ...Alex, Lemeuix, Gretzky ...on same line ...can't stop them
He has to be one of the most underrated players in NHL history.. size, speed, and skill
im a habs fan since 1990 and he always impressed me, thank you youtube algortyhm for suggesting me this, i forgot he even existed
Alex Mogilny the Great8est RW in Vancouver

He's the original Alexander The Great. And Ovi should be honored to take his nickname
Chino Are you chopped bro. Mogilny would absolutely massacre the modern NHL in his prime. These 2000s kids say such foolish things.
Chino Bambino you're missing the point. Original means original.
Andrew Persaud players today are better get over it grandpa. If he played in his prime today he'd be 20 goals a season maybe Ovechkin is waaaaaaayyy better.
Best goal scorer of this day and age, but he's still 287 behind Gretz...just sayin
AlMo and Ovi were/ are two completely different players.
Mogilny and Bure in one line, just wow. This is the kind of hockey I would like to watch today.
Come on NHL put this guy in the Hall of Fame already
Get this guy into the Hall, ridiculous talent!
One of my all time favorite players. One of the most talented players. Stayed good for a long time and for every team he played for. One of the best goal scorers. Made it look easy.
As a kid I took for granted that Mogilny and Bure were Canucks. Time machine please
Absolutely criminal he isn’t in the Hall yet. Not only one of the most talented scorers of his era, his impact on Europeans in the league cannot be overstated
One of my top 3 favorite players, and the most deadly scorer I've ever witnessed. Speed, agility and accuracy like a machine. Even has the temperament of a machine xd
Just beautiful with those backhand shots. Makes it looks so easy to score while executing at full speed.
One of the greatest NHL player ever!!!!!!
Absolutely AWESOME!!!
His style is unique, beautiful!
Glad I picked up the Canucks flying skate third jersey with his name on back
Beautiful to watch
Need more of These career rewinds 🙏
89 favorite hockey player eva!
Loved him as a Canuck. Was amazing watching these highlights transition from early in his career when the goalies were barely wearing pads at all to the more modern look later on.
This guy is one of many legends in the NHL 🙂
One of my all time favorites, loved him during his short stint with the Devils!
actually he was in NJ twice.
Soviet skating is just amazing. Alexander was a monster,if not for the injuries,he would have scored 600+ goals,Pavel Bure ae well.
Great player
Loved when he was with my Leafs. Felt he could really play well with Sundin.
An absolute treat to watch...
Amazing skills
Wow he was something else
My favorite player of all time, I even switched from sabres fan to canucks that’s how I became a nucks fan.
My all time favourite, 89 such a 🔥 number also
I think I saw his goal at 6:28 live. I remember seeing him score a great goal like that one against San Jose.
This dude was so smooth
2:25 isnt that like a record? 5 seconds in first period and Mogilny scores... damn I miss him
A fantastic player and a better person a gentleman and superb player
P. Bure, Fedorov, Mogilny together where the best Russians during late 90s and early 2000. Just imagine how many more times Russia could have had won if Mogilny joined up with his national team more often along with P. Bure and Fedorov, but let's not forget other great Russians at this time, players such as young Datsyuk, Kovalchuk, Kovalev, Yashin, Afinogenov, Samsonov along with so many more future super Russians that would later take over NHL. As a Swede, I have always been interested in Russian hockey, their players and their history. I remember when a Swedish reporter once asking Swedens head coach the question ''Could you ever imagine yourself ever beating Soviet?'' And the coach kinda gives this chuckle as if ''Are you serious?'' And said ''No, I wouldn't think so.''. Keep also this in mind that this was during a time when Sweden had a good team that could give other nations such as Canada and Czechoslovakia a proper challenge. Soviet/Russia has always been and will always be good at hockey, I hope this war can end for more reasons than the hockey of course, but I already miss having Russia in the WC and OG.
In 2000, he might have been the piece that gets the Devils over the hump. He was a special player. Everyone forgets the defensive devils lead the East in scoring that year having the A line (arnott sykora and elias) with a then veteran mogilny and rookie Gomez adding that 2nd line depth made for a powerhouse of a team.
Yep , I remember that team. All 4 lines could score goals. Bobby Holik who they used to rely on for goals was a 3rd liner that year because the offensive lines were so stacked. Then if you had possession of the puck, you had to deal with Stevens and Brodeur to go up against. A complete nightmare for other teams.
@@eliasadam2345 Don't forget White and Daneyko. And then the offensive D men, Scott Niedermayer , and Rafalski.
@@Derrick2shot Yep, the big guys like Stevens, White or Daneyko roughed you up along the boards and then made a perfect outlet pass. Now Neidermayer or Ralalski is carrying the puck into your own zone and you're screwed once the offense gets the puck
ONE OF MY IDOLS AND FAVS
Nice Career!
That move at 1:35, just dazzling! Heck of a hockey player
How isn't he in the HHoF? Over 1k points in the NHL in less than 1k games!
I may be bias because Alexander Mogilny is my favorite player of all time . That’s said, I’m a huge Devils fan and besides Alexander, i’ll also give you four more of my five favorite players Stefan Richer, Pierre Turgeon, Jeremy Roenick end Scott Stevens. My three goalies are Martin Brodeur, Eddie Belfour, In Grant fuhr
Bure, Fedorov and Mogilny line was ridiculous.
When I was 7 I watched a game and I swear after he scored a goal he threw up and that was my start into becoming a young hockey fanatic and I lived in Pittsburgh only behind mario and jagr he was my all time fav
Wow, hockey sure have changed a lot in 20years
Honestly other than less clutching, no red line, and 3 on 3 OT, in 20 years hockey hasn't changed a lot. Go from the early 90's though, till the turn of the century, Hockey probably changed twice as much then as it did over the next 22 years.
I remember watching his leg snap in half live vs. MTL. jfc the screams............. LEGEND #89
Hands and edgework that would make McDavid blush, but man....goaltending was very....different....back then.
6:22 used to love those Canucks jerseys!
Mogilny was so good at noticing open ice & using every inch of it to his advantage.
Of course Mogilny benefited from playing with Lafontain but I really think that he was a great talent. He was the best in 1on1 breakaways along with Lemieux
Greatest wrist shot ever
Alexander The Greatest. What a nice goals I like russian hockey style it's so skatey and dribbley in comparison to nhl's.
