Part 13: • Morris Day: Prince Had...
Part 11: • Morris Day: Prince Own...
Part 1: • Morris Day on Joining ...
In this clip, Morris Day opened up about hearing of Prince's death while he was traveling and not believing it was true at first. He explained that the loss of his childhood friend hit him "like a ton of bricks" later that evening. Morris went on to speak about meeting up with Prince to play a show at Paisley Park two months prior, and he added that nothing seemed out of the ordinary about Prince. He then added that Prince was making plans for them during the meeting, which you can hear more about above.

  • Just for a little clarity, Prince became dependent on painkillers due to a hip surgery (he injured his hip landing a jump splits dance move during a concert) and had been using a stylized cane to walk for a few years, but he kept performing and relied on the pills to get him through. He died from an accidental Fentanyl overdose. He wasn't using the drugs recreationally, it was actually for pain relief but he took too much and it caused an irregular heartbeat and respiratory failure.

Many of my college friends went to high school and grow up on the same street and neighborhood with these guys. They would often talk about them. I really wasn't into the Minneapolis sound and personalities of that music at that time. In retrospect (today) it's really good to see how solid of a person Morris Day is. The brother seems to have a genuine spirit and honest quality. The interviewer should interview Morris Day for his talents and contributions to the Minneapolis music seen and not just an appendix of Prince. He was extremely talented and his band the Time were equal to Prince's band on some levels.

    • And they leave out that he was murdered basically. He tght he was taking regular hydrocodone, the pill. If you look it up by the shape and number it was that BUT 5he actual ingredients were a deadly, deadly form of Fentanyl. Prince had a so much fetanyl in him that it would kill an 2 elephants making it impossible for him to have knowingly ingested.

  • Listening to Morris speaking on this, I cannot help but feel Prince knew he was going to die soon and wanted to have his own type of closure. One being telling Morris how much he meant to Prince. Prince even invited Madonna to P's place and had some words with her whom he hasn't spoken to for years, but at one time were friends. I also feel the death of Vanity and her dying on the same month and day but different year as Prince's beloved mother passing was the catalyst of Prince wanting to end his life. Prince had chronic physical pain, but the death of Vanity as I stated on the same day and month but different year of his beloved mother, was more painful than the chronic physical pain itself.

  • I saw Prince during his 1999 tour while I was in high school. As a major Prince fan I wanted to forever savor those memories. I decided to never go to another Prince concert, which I did not. My fondest memories will forever be the early to late 80's. Hip Hop was birthed during that time period as well. I saw Run D-M-C in my high school gymnasium. The memories are priceless.
