Welcome to the Letterman KZhead Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.
Videodrome and Debbie Harry; a match made in cinematic heaven.
She is such an icon. She is very shy and rarely opens up much in interviews. And even at 77 she is still unusually beautiful and talented.
Did you catch video of her tour at age 78? Just amazing. She's obviously kept exercising through the years and although her voice of course isn't like it was as a young woman, she still sounds amazing. Search for Isle of Wright festival concert if you haven't already.
@flickwtchr I did see it and you are right!
Interviews like this really highlight how different Dave's personality was in the early years of the program. He got so much more goofy and less restrained as the years passed. If this were an interview with her in 1986 he'd be cracking smiles and jokes much more often. He came off more as trying to remain a professional broadcaster in the early years.
He got progressively more creepy with female guests as the years went on. I actually prefer this version of him
She seems such a lovely soul.
"Not actually a friend. He works here."
Man she was SO FINE back in the day. Gorgeous.
Yes she was
AGREED! 🥰😍
She still is.
@@ivebenjamin8036 AGREED! 😍🥰
For a generation that grew up on Apocalypse Now and The Warriors, this feels strangely not so long ago.
Debbie was ahead by a century.
I saw this maniac open for Paul Oakenfold in 2004. You should see her dance moves. Fun night that was.
Letterman was responsible for me sleeping through so much of high school.
"What a humorist!" - classic.
She looks 10 times hotter with the auburn hair color!
This is from 41 years ago. Wow! Makes you feel rather old.
That wasn't a poltergeist starting fires, it was Edie Sedgwick.
I can't really imagine what those people in the audience who decided to go see Videodrome after this interview thought about it. It is...an experience.
She later rejected the role of Dorothy in Blue Velvet because of the weird mail from men she got because of her role in that.
@@Bryan8329 If anything, Blue Velvet is even MORE disturbing because it's not science fiction at all
Videodrome is such a trip. Unfortunately it stars that low-life dirtbag, James Woods, but he fits the role to a tee. Great film by Cronenberg.
@@FreezerKing the names bandied about for that are fascinating. Sigourney Weaver almost played the role. If somehow she had that and Aliens in the same year she surely would have gotten the Oscar.
To me she's being playful here and doesn't want to play the role of "the standard talk show guest" covering preplanned topics as though they were having a spontaneous conversation. I think Dave has always been the more straight laced one that would try and elicit clear, straightforward answers rather than play along with the quirkiness, but in this case he's being far more patient than he would be with a Brother Theodore or Harvey Pekar because it's her.
The amazing most talented beautiful lovely lady blonde
There's some sort of weird noise reduction on the audio here....sounds strange.
Ask for your money back.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH I just thought the video curators would like to get some feedback.
Why did people think Letterman was so funny? This interview went horrible and there was still laughter.
Please, upload the segment with John Witherspoon when he does a short stand-up and talks about Funeral director and the decomposing bodies.
What would that have to do with this?
Always loved Blondie. Debbie Harry is living in a retirement community in Lincroft NJ now. No 👻
She lives in an old folks home?
According to Wiki. she is 77 yo. So she is quite old.
@@yatespeterm - Dave is 76 and still pretty active. Unless she has dementia, I doubt she's in an old folks home. A retirement community is different.
She just played at Coachella lol
@@PrinceAsmodeus 55+ very nice place. My friends parents live there.
Ah, the original un-jaded Dave. 😉
This episode was one day off from being the one-year anniversary of the first episode of the show - 2/1/1982.
legend
Atlanta Superstation TBS rasslin' ina 80s was the best! I bet Dave was watchin'...and he had the greatest feud on before this (i watched the vlog again!), with the slap by Jerry Lawyer on Andy Kaufman!😅
Get hi much Debbie?
(CHECKS NEWS FEEDS)...Phew! Still Alive...
Videodrome...what a movie. Total Cronenberg body horror nightmare.
Deborah Harry
Deborah Harry in a haunted house... Yeah yeah yeah yeah...
Debbie Harry was already an Icon even back then with her music and Blondie. Dave was an icon in the making. They are both legends in their fields now. I do still love Debbie Harry so, for that voice and all the music she gave us. And all those late nights as a teenager watching Dave with my friends from work at the Ice Rink.
Haha, I wonder if Deborah Harry was a little sleep deprived, the answers felt a little out of synch.
My thanks to Jay Leno and Deborah Harry. Tune in tomorrow where my guests will be Carol Leifer, Alvin Eicoff, and Drew Barrymore. Thanks for watching, everyone, good night. (cue Late Night theme)
I'd buy a barbecue poltergeist for $49.95.
She appears to be a little 'under the weather.'
This was when the band broke up her label abandoned her... Chris was deathly ill... IRS cleaned her out and she got heavy into heroin.
Not Mr. Letterman's best interview.
Cutie Pie ❤
Fan request: Don Rickles appearance with Regis Filbin
Painful. I hope Jerry was fired after this. Her hair looks great though.
You must be new here
Plot twist - she was the creepy entity. Probably the most boring interview in the history of verbal communication.
BobTurwiliger • BobTurd, u r theee most boring…
Geez…this interview makes me cringe! 😖
Was she on something 🤔
Yea, a chair.
Come to think of it, it does seem like she was a bit high haha.
@@Lettuce_Play For a time she and Chris had drug issues. Not sure if that was the time period though.
Probably
It feels like it to me. She seems nervous and fidgety and uncharacteristically defensive in places. Plus she looks very disheveled.
Does she still have the bat today?
Hmmmm as much as I love Deborah Harry, this interview is all over the place. Is she trying to be silly or is she really this way? Yikes!!
Heroin
She's somewhat dense. Letterman is playing off it. He knows how popular she is but he's confused by the adoration. Me, too...dave
JJZANESVILLE2 • You are the densest, by far…& sounds like u r also very jealous, insecure, etc..
She looks loaded too. My guess would be alcohol/cocaine ...if wrong she´s even denser than we both think she is.
Thanks for posting this chief 😀
Stop calling me chief!
*Harry seems to have remaining with her the remnants of that haunted house ---- judging by her 'possessed' appearance here ...*
