Considering how small and relatively unimportant this game seems to be based on what we know of it, this might be a blessing in disguise for Nintendo because the game is now receiving a greater amount of coverage than it would have likely received otherwise.
Sadly, the usual fare for NSO seems to be as far from exciting as possible.
I actually had a dream the other day that the ESRB accidentally revealed that Shotgun Mario 64 (a romhack, much higher quality than it sounds) was getting released on Switch Online. So this gave me a pretty good laugh when I saw it on Twitter

I remember the ESRB leaking details on God of War 2018, basically telling us we were getting the Blades of Chaos back.
That must have sucked. That's a pretty good "oh shit" moment in the game.

It could be that it is Nintendo Japan who does submissions to the ESRB and currently Japan is on Golden Week, a full week vacation. So maybe the person in charge is away in Hawaii

No, each respective branch handles ratings submissions. The autonomy thing you are talking about is game's production, third party agreements and the final approval of marketing. The base functional operations of each branch is handled directly. What is actually happening is that the rating boards don't rescind rating updates based on the marketing practices of individual companies and that Nintendo submitted the game for rating but, without announcing the game. Presumably, it means the game is due out shortly, probably by July at latest. For reference, Luigi's Mansion 2 and Paper Mario TTYD got rated in December and Princess Peach Showtime got ratings released shortly after the new year.
Can we talk about how the NES Remix series is basically a WarioWare spin-off? That was more-or-less what the 9-volt mini-games were.
One example I know where the ESRB leaked something that didn’t come out would be Earthbound on the Wii Virtual Console. Around 2007 or so people noticed the ESRB suddenly listed an updated rating for the game that specified a release on Wii. Ultimately it never came out on Wii VC, we had to wait on the Wii U many years later instead.

It's kind of pissing me off ngl. I'm usually able to ignore leaks because I don't follow them too closely but then I find people on youtube talking about leaks and then I have to just be dissapointed all over again. I get people like news but god damnit let it just come when it comes

I think the funniest thing about the ending scenario Arlo painted was that Doug Bowser saw the ESRB person was on XBox, rather than Nintendo. That just makes me chuckle.
To be honest, they did do a Nintendo World Championship back in 2017. I remember it because it was another copyright controversy (practically no one could reupload it at the time) but particularly because they used a Moon Mission from Mario Odyssey, the one after you beat the Dragon in the Ruined Kingdom & you capture the rocket to get to it & it’s a 2D section & it was a month or two before it came out. So for all we know, it’s likely they may still continue the championships.
And in 2015. They've had 3 editions of the championships. Maybe we'll get a new one this year, bundled with the leaked game.
@@rutgerniemeijer It could be like the 2015 edition where Nintendo included an NWC mode with NES Remix 2 which was used as the preliminaries for the event. I'd expect the actual game will be like NES Remix minus the Remix challenges with a mode like Nintendo World Championships where you aimed for a certain score in the first two games and the third being a score challenge using the remaining time
The timing between Pyoro's leak and the ESRB rating could point to Pyoro (or one of their sources) being an ESRB employee. We got an ESRB rating when I worked at an indie game studio, and the process involved sending them gameplay footage about 2 or 3 months prior to release (but I guess that varies depending on your studio and publisher schedule!). But if Pyoro is part of the rating process, it could explain how they can consistently tease information a few months in advance.
I bet I know what the deal with this game is: it’s probably the next “free” online game included with Nintendo switch online, in the same vein as Tetris 99 or f-zero. It’ll probably be a game geared around online competition and that’s what makes it different from the nes remix series. The reason it gets revealed now like this is probably because it’ll be one of those “it’s available right now” announcements in the next direct.

Does this mean the Pyoro’s contact is likely an employee at ESRB? Because Nintendo didn’t announce this yet, so how would Pyoro have known to tweet about it only a day before this goes up…
It's entirely possible it's just going to be announced imminently, as is usually the case with Pyoro's leaks. Nintendo has a shareholder meeting on Tuesday, and it used to be the case that they'd announce some games at those.
One theory I’ve heard floating around is that pyoro might somehow have access to Nintendo’s unlisted KZhead uploads but I don’t know how feasible that would be.
@@jmaldonado790 I'm sorry for breaking it out to you but on his Twitter profile, the pinned post says "They wouldn't be stupid enough to upload trailers days before it goes public either. Nobody has access to the KZhead backend". Additionally: "The world is a deduction of laws. If you know the laws, you can figure out what's gonna be shown in a Direct. That's all." I would opt for another hypothesis, like he's just enough knowledgeable about copyright, patents and registry laws, therefore he checks specific places about these procedures and looks for codenames or similar cues to know what's coming just soon before it releases

Ironically a company known for censorship has a tendency to leak upcoming releases.
Apparently the Korean ratings board is notorious for listing game ratings before official announcements. Not like, every game, but it happens enough that I've heard multiple games rumors in just the past couple of years coming from Korean game rating listings.
Big example of that is Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. We knew the multi-platform port existed thanks to the NVIDEA Leak from years prior, but the game was officially showed off *the day after* it was rated by none other than the Korean ratings board of all things.
That ending had me cracking up. Corporate fanfiction is one of my favorite genres.

Wasn't this the rarest release of all time? Since only finalists were given a copy of it. I think I watched a documentary on it about ten years ago.
The mention of "swordfighting" implies that it's an original game and not a re-release of the NES one, since that game didn't have any swordfighting in it.

They still use the world championship branding for splatoon and mario kart. They’ve still got the triangle and the classic skewed type.

They brought back the Nintendo World Championships branding between 2015 and 2019 at E3, for the tournaments they held on stage. It was pretty fun.

From memory (and most of my knowledge about the Nintendo World Championship comes from casually following the modern Classic Tetris World Championship scene - competitive NES Tetris, basically - since a couple of the original competitors of that competed in the Nintendo World Championship), the original was two speedrun events - get to a specific point, or a specific score, within two games, followed by Tetris, with the goal being to get the highest score on Tetris as you could within the... I forget what the overall time limit for the event was, so fast completion of the first two challenges rewarded you with more time playing Tetris before the scores were counted. It's apparently why 'Boom Tetris for ____' became a catchphrase within the CTWC because during the NWC Tetrises were rare - The competitors were around 10 years old and generalist gamers - so the commentator really hyped them up, while they're very common in modern day competitive tetris across all formats, but especially in classic Tetris where there aren't really any alternate strategies if you're in a maximize your score format (compared to the T-Spins, the back to backs, the reward for clearing your board, and so forth, of more modern Tetris formats) - NES Tetris was a simpler game. But also a much harder one in ways that go beyond the obvious (no held pieces, single piece lookahead) - the controls aren't as fluid meaning you need to either maintain 'DAS' or very rapidly hit the directional buttons, while in more modern formats holding a direction will teleport the piece to one side of the board or the other; and the piece randomization isn't as constrained (in modern Tetris it uses a 'bag' format - One copy of each piece is placed into a virtual bag, then every piece is drawn before all the pieces are put back into the bag and randomized again, meaning the maximum amount of 'drout' - a period without receiving a particular piece - is 13 pieces (first out of Bag A, last out of Bag B), and the most of the same piece you can get in a row is 2 (last out of Bag A, first out of Bag B). In NES Tetris it just randomly picks a piece for you (there's RNG manipulation that's possible if you're using the original cartridge, but...), meaning you could theoretically never receive those all important longbars, though that's unlikely. Within a best of three match you will usually see at least one 30+ that due to the modified cartridges used for it so that the players can both play with the same random seed will impact both competitors)

Also, it promoted the powerglove ("its so BAD"). It would be hilarious if they also re-released a version of the powerglove on their exclusive store like they did with the NES controllers
I really liked NES Remix as a teaching tool to get into the mechanics of a classic game. I wish they had something like it for the Switch Online because some of these are not things you would go in cold.

You can edit anyone's IMDb page, that doesn't mean anything
IMDB is the Wikipedia of movies, it's overall relatively reliable but comes with the caveat that anyone can add anything they want to it. They're not a particularly reliable source for leaks
Before the first trailer of the Mario Movie came out, it had an IMDB page claiming Mario and Luigi would go to real life Brooklyn in a "Who Framed Rodger Rabbit" style of animation. If you believe any leak you see on IMDB, you're gullible as hell.
That's fake. There is probably a new Star Fox in development, though. Nintendo's been filing new trademarks tied to the series (not renewing them) and Nintendo Switch Sports randomly has references to Star Fox in some filenames
