Really helpful video, well explained. Thank you. Will be buying exactly these!
I always advise qualified and apprentice electricians to watch this type of video on the simple basis that they are so informative and professionally presented. Well done again Joe!
Aw, thanks for that, really appreciate it. 😊
great video , BG have developed a nice design. some other brands are on the limit of BS4662 and take up all the back box width and height 👍
Any update on these sockets? How have they performed so far? Any issues with overheating? Cheers
Nice but will be a bit of a pain when doing an instalation reistance test ? Great video as alway Joe
a bit ..just remove the neutrals and place in wagos for duration of the test.
I installed them in the bedrooms and kitchen to stop the girls from using those cheap charging adapters that can cause a fire. I find these great so far. Woodies have them for €24.99. I had the older USB A type sockets but have since upgraded to these. Good upload.
Quite like the Nexus range I fit the brushed steel finish a fair amount in HMOs I'll have to give these a go see what they're about
I think they're a decent range in fairness.
That grey socket is nice ..
Yeah, I like that one too.
Can't seem to find either of the plain white ones on the BG site... keeps showing the metal ones... (mobile site) Do you have a part number for the square edged white ones please?

It's will fit 25mm box.But looks like it will crush conductors.
Yes I've seen this before where an intermittent trip was caused by a neutral cable trapped against the box and the earth strap across the back of a socket, the pop rivet had dug into it over time.
I reckon a bit of careful routing and it'd be just fine. 👍👍👍
Who actually uses 25mm back boxes though? Talk about being cheap.
👍👍👍🤗😀nice!
Thanks!
I like BG, and their nexus range, always found it to be decent stuff. It gets a bad rep from some electricians and some of those on KZhead, mainly because it can be bought from DIY places, but the brand has been around a long time, so they must be doing something right.
Yeah I use the BG sockets and they're great and I've had no issues with them at all. I have the fast charging USB type C sockets throughout my house.
Superb idea to have the old Type A and Type C USB sockets. Great for cafes, restaurants and pubs. The old Type A, which is the most common, was made for the professional computer trade - people who knew how to plug them in. They can only be plugged in the correct way around. I have been in many airports that have free USB charging. In Nice airport all but one Type A USBs were out as the plugs were butchered, as people (amateurs) rammed them in the wrong way around. I do not know of any other USB Type C charger on 230v sockets. As Solid state batteries may be here quicker than we think - they charge very fast, USB chargers have to be capable of handling a faster charge.
Amazing how many USB sockets don’t work in public places !
I'm still hoping for a socket with usb-c connections on the side or bottom edge. Even better would be for the USB standard to adopt a magnetic pogo pin connection. The Microsoft surface dock connector is one of the best designs ever created and Microsoft really missed a trick by keeping it proprietary. Meanwhile, the new usb pd2.1 spec will allow charging at 240w. I'd love to see this incorporated in a socket.
hard to do the data-rates USB-C does over pogo pins
Nice looking sockets but am I the only one who has misgivings of installing any socket with a high power charger in a wall box which by its nature will be in a tight confined space without any cooling air flow management or other cooling method? Maybe the effect of heat on the charger components is the cause of so many USB charger sockets being out of action in public places like airports.
I'm going to pop a couple of these in my house so I'll keep you posted! 👍
Do you have the product number for the nexus black nickel? I can't seem to find it online 🤔
www.bgelectrical.uk/wiring-devices/decorative/13-amp-switched-socket-outlet-usb-charger#nexus-metal you can select black nickel finish here. Part code I believe is: NBN22UAC30B
I'm still holding out till there are two independant USB-C PD with 100w each (20v5a).. NOT SHARED. Though, I suspect I would need a bigger backbox, just for the cooling. Small price to pay for future proofing.. You know, for when I need to charge 8 usb-c laptops all at once.
Wow, that'd be a beast of a socket! We'll keep you posted if we find one!
@@efixx To be fair, at the point that there are 100w+ USB-C sockets on the wall, We might as well throw away the 3pin plugs. The only things being plugged into them would be more USB adapters..
haha that's not going to happen anytime soon
@@edc1569 That is fine, I don't need to buy faceplates anytime soon
It would be good if the centre section which incorporates the usb connections could be removed and updated when new connections are introduced.
something I was thinking of too since I don't want to shell out out a ton of money for USB sockets and since newer phones usually charge faster and need more power being delivered to them which also somewhat puts me off from buying any USB wall socket in the first place since I would rather my phone charge in like half an hour or less than bother with charging via a USB wall socket waiting like an hour or more
@@zahidshabir4038 if the centre was removable you could have any combination you wanted. Could always have a little reading light instead 👍
Interesting points raised here. Maybe a modular solution is the future!
@@efixx yeh. Adaptable and future proof. What's not to like
It’s a nice idea. But they would need to ensure 240v not exposed when the module was removed. Also at this price point it’s not realistic.
Really depends on the quality of the controller Nice sockets though
Yeah, looking forward to seeing how they perform over time!
is this can be called fast charging or not??
hi i am having trouble locating these sockets can you put a link on as to where i might be able to buy them thanks
If you're in the UK or Republic of Ireland Woodies have them. In Ireland they cost €24.99. Just make sure you go for the 30 OD version.
if BG could make a single ang version of this, that'd be great, they all seem to be 5v2a type-a ports only
Just replace the single with a double - It would take you only 5 minutes to do.
chiselling out the brick would take significantly longer than 5 minutes@@celticlofts
@@Mobile_Dom : Why do you need to chisel out brick?
i live in a house from the 1840s and the outlet back boxes are chiselled in tho the brick of the structure of the walls. no drwall and wood studs here, and if i want to go from a single gang outlet to a double gang outlet i need to make it wider, and more than likely i also need to go deeper@@celticlofts
Rope edge brass on mine please. As it is intelligent can it make me a cup of tea
We'll forward the feedback on! 😂
It would be interesting to see you fitting that socket with the usual 6 wires poking backwards into that 20mm box and still saying it fits 😏
25mm box surely?
@@efixx yeah sorry 25 😆
I'll give it a go and let you know! 👍👍👍
@@efixx don’t forget that usually the cable insulation isn’t stripped right at the entrance and to also leave some slack on the wires.. I’d say 35mm minimum for a socket so you can make it flush bare handed and the wiring ‘comfortable’ at the back, being the screws just to keep it in place.
I wish they wouldn’t put the L and N terminals so close. Can be a pain with thick stranded cable.
6p is 6p
is 6p!
3:48 Who still uses slotted screws for socket terminals? SL/PZ 2/1 is way better
The big slots isn’t that bad as long as they’re not shit brass screws, but they could have Pz + slot together like the breakers.. it’s a UK thing.. if you’re complaining about those then it’s because you haven’t seen the slotted M3 screws that hold the socket to the box on the wall 🤣
who still uses screws for terminals? 😂
Don't like all that text printed on them
