  • And to respond to the title of this video, what was Mark Cavendish's problem?

    • Precisely.

    • It looks that he had some mechanical - was looking down at gears as if he couldn’t get the shifter right.

    • @@solarmilonga3170 Yeah right, that's every other finish now. If only he'd had the correct sprocket.

  • He's in the pocket at 2:58. Then you can see him look down right before the switch to the helicopter shot where he stops pedaling staring longingly into his gears that seem, just at that precise moment, to rip open the very continental plates up which we all stand. We can only be thankful that the ensuing platectonic mis-shifts did not cause a massive earthquake and lava to rain down upon us all. Seriously though, I want Mark to get one more at The Tour. At least the team got their train right.

    • yeah, looks like he was banging his left shifter there, you see that as he drifted back? Maybe he was looking for a reason for not being able to sprint.

  • Don't understand why people are questioning Cavendish not sprinting, clearly he had the best place to open the sprint, but couldn't because of a mechanical.

  • Advancing age, a deeper field of world-class sprinters in the grand tours and greater mountain stages to come. Mark has the odds stacked againt him to beat Eddy's record.

    • Plus the hunger probably isn't there anymore. Wanting to win and needing to win are decidedly two different things.

  • Great to see Cavendish messing it up. He's overrated and he spits his dummy out too many times when he loses. His TDF records are completely skewed by all those wins where noone else sent a team to deliver their sprinter to the line. He is no Merckx that's for sure!
