Learn How To Plaster A Wall (ROLLER METHOD REVEALED) | Plastering For Beginners

If you want to learn the basics to plastering and learn how to plaster your own walls then join The Plastering For Beginners welcome Course. It's a free plastering course ideal for anyone who wants to learn how to plaster...(AIMED AT COMPLETE BEGINNERS!) plasterersblueprint.clickfunn...
Today we're going to show you a complete beginners guide to plastering a wall. And the most important thing is that we're going to show you 2 ways to apply the plaster.
Here's the tools used in this video:
--
Ox Speedskim - amzn.to/3QoUKVi
Plaster Roller - amzn.to/3WWSibo
Nela Premium Trowel - amzn.to/3ifgxCB
Ox Hawk - amzn.to/3ZlYds7
Refina Mixing Bucket - amzn.to/3ZglgV9
--
One of the hardest skills in plastering is applying the plaster. And I highly recommend that you learn to use a trowel and hawk. However, if you're completely new then I can show you an easier way to get the plaster onto the wall...
And that's with a roller.
It sounds outrageous but this method works and you can actually get good results doing it. You just need to know HOW...
That's what I teach in this video. This is one part in a 5 part series called "Plastering For Beginners Crash Course". We'll show you the full process to plastering so make sure to subscribe so you don't miss any future videos.
If you like this video hit the like and subscribe button if you want to be part of the course.
And please leave a comment on what you want to see next. I'd love to hear from you.
Hope you enjoy the training.

    • @@terry4144 so where's your video on how to apply plaster big mouth? Yep, what I thought, you don't have one and lack the balls to make one. Go ahead, show us all how its done. I can't plaster for shit, my dad could and I've tried but I disliked it enough to employ guys to do it when I ran my own business in the UK. Now I live in the US, plastering doesn't happen, its all drywall. But come on mate, show us how good you are.

  • Use a medium pile Roller sleeve. You don’t get half the texture and it’s so much easier . If doing ceilings use a pole and you can lay it all on from the floor. Use speed skim with pole too.

  • Hi Blaine, many thanks for this video and indeed all of your excellent and helpful content. I gave the roller a go, 2 coats with spatula flattening, and then I also threw some sponge floating into the process just for giggles. Felt a bit like a gadget-fest but the end result was excellent. I did find the rolled-on rippled plaster needed to be flattened really quickly as the texture seems to make it pull in very fast; I wondered whether I could modify the process next time to roll a couple of meters, speedskim that area, roll some more, speedskim that bit etc Do you think that would work? Thanks for all the great information, I'm learning loads from you but the skills still have a long way to go 🙂

  • I've been following your channel for a while and love your videos. And this is the one I've found the most detailed and helpful so far. Thank you! One thing I'm not quite clear on is that when you say roughly 20 minutes per stage... I'm not sure if that's 20 minutes actually applying the plaster, then waiting, then another 20 minutes of doing the next stage, then waiting and so on... OR whether the 20 minutes includes the interval, then going straight into the next stage - so starting each subsequent stage at 20, 40, 60, 80 minutes etc. I hope that makes sense.

  • Bit the bullet and bought a Pentrillo plaster roller after seeing your vids..I can plaster normally..been doing it for years.. however.. I had a go on a 20m2 ceiling at home.. 1. Great bit of kit for getting the plaster on quick and semi evenly.. I found it going off a bit quick on the first coat and dragging when flattening as I’d done the whole ceiling..brought it back with a slurry sponge ok.. 2. Second coat I rollered a meter strip then trowel flattened it and worked my way across the ceiling.. this solved the problem fine.. 3. Tried my speed skim over it on both coats.. it dragged it off.. so put it back in the van..😂 4. The roller sheds fibres a bit.. so you have to pick them out.. not really an issue.. 5. Definitely a good bit of kit for a DIY to get plaster on the ceiling without it going all over the floor.. Cheers.. I’ll be using it again on a paid job..

  • I just started plastering my first room. Started on the ceiling which you said was the best place to start. Jesus christ man! How do you do this every day, my arm is killing! Didnt turn out perfect because my first batch was way too thick, the amount of water on the bag was way off…but i made the 2nd coat much thinner and it turned out pretty good. I think my main issue is not getting it on fast enough.. i really struggled with the troweling because it had dried too much! I bought a sponge today, i think your sponge float technique might give me more time to work with it, even you pros prefer to just trowel! Anyway, love your vids, you gave me the confidence to do my own plastering :)

    @glydyr007@glydyr007 Жыл бұрын
  • Great explanation! If you ever retire from plastering, you might want to teach at a vocational school. The roller method reminds me of something I like to do when painting a wall, not necessarily a plaster wall, that has sort of an exaggerated eggshell surface from too many layers of rolled-on paint, and maybe a minor imperfection here or there. I'll roll or brush a swath of paint, then press it in with a trowel, a drywall knife or one of those wallpaper smoothing blades that resembles a half-size speed skim. I do most of the first layer of paint that way and the second coat ends up much smoother than the wall originally had been; it almost has that glassy look of new plaster. But, I have to say that if I were putting up real plaster, something I only do when it's absolutely necessary, I'd probably use a trowel for every step, simply to avoid having to clean the roller. It might make some people more comfortable though, especially those who are trying to minimize the stress that troweling puts on the wrists.

I could do with some further advice as the plaster is cracked and blown in places and has previously been repaired. In addition, there is the original coving which is substantial but there is only a 5mm lip so i am unsure about just skimming it. Should i strip off the whole plaster or just remove the damaged parts and patch them skim? Also, what about the coving? Thanks in advance, Anthony

I’ve been learning through your videos and I would be really grateful for your help. Also, there are a few cracks in the exterior of the house but it’s Tyrolean. I’ve been thinking of just filling them watering down a bit of filler with a few stones to help it patch before I paint it. Would this work? Would it adhere ok with me watering it down. Using troupet external filler. Unless you suggest something. Hope you can help x

    @gillianprice7995@gillianprice7995 Жыл бұрын
    • If its tyrolean and your going to paint over it you could make up a mix with fine sand and cement with sbr. Just keep it similar thickness to gravy but not my misses gravy. And if you can't get hold of a tyrolean gun you can use a stiffish hand brush and use it to flick it on by running your fingers over the brush. Practice on a piece of board to get the mix you feel is right for you. Been plastering 35 yrs and always found a way around a problem.
