I’m glad to see DT get an opportunity, and think he’ll do well. That said, if you’re a high-level recruit with multiple national title and international wrestling aspiration…there is still only one place to be for the foreseeable future. What Cael and PSU have is proof that the staff can coach at the highest level and get the ultimate results (Olympic, world, and NCAA titles). What DT and OKST have is hope. If you or your son is the next DT…who do you trust. Not to mention they literally just developed DT Olympic team replacement.
Half of the international wrestlers at the NLWC are/were outsiders who transferred into the program. Of the 3 Olympic team members from NLWC, only one is from Penn State since (AB). David Taylor has the history and proven track record to coach elite athletes. He has now taken control of the single biggest dynasty in college sports at Oklahoma State Wrestling, a place where EVERY elite HS wrestler has on their list of consideration. I don’t think it will be all that hard to convince athletes to come to Oklahoma state.
@@michaelscott33right. That’s kinda my point. The elite of the elite…even the likes of Dake, Snyder etc. who weren’t PSU grown still know the Cael and Co. are the best for their careers. DT, great competitor…elite college level coach…don’t know. Not saying he won’t be…but he hasn’t done it. And he’ll be competing for recruits against someone who is the current king maker. And has taken 2 wrestler from recruits to 1 Olympic gold (DT) and one Olympic team member (AB) and multiple world champs/medals and 39 NCAA titles. I mean, it’s not close. It’s why I say one has proof…the other has hope. OKST will get recruits…I have no doubt. But if your wrestling career depended on a decision between the two…it’s not even close. It’s like saying Nick Saban staff could recreate Alabama somewhere else. Hasn’t happened. Originals are often imitated…never duplicated.

I don't think anyone is saying Penn State is going anywhere for a long time. However, Taylor is the one, singular ingredient that Oklahoma State has been missing. There is a reason that OSU has won 34 titles - frankly Smith has been holding them back for the last decade. Taylor will modernize the program and he will not take long to get OSU where it needs to be to challenge PSU. I predict in 2 years OSU will be challenging PSU for the title. This will happen fast.
Fast? Penn State has the #1 recruiting class in 2024 and 2025. On top of already having an unbeatable team. Nobody will be challenging Penn State anytime soon.
So OSU has won 34 titles and Smith was holding them back? John Smith is a wrestling legend Period and people went to Oklahoma for Coach Smith. People are out of there mine now a days. There is many wrestling programs that are great but some people are leaving to Penn state because of the money being thrown at them through NIL deals. Coach Cael does a great job at Penn state so people will still be going to Penn because of coach and NIL deals. Those that go to Oklahoma will still have to compete with Penn state like every other team!!!
@@qhimicoasesino2989 You do know these athletes go to State College because of the dynasty built from Cael, Cody and Casey. Their program breeds Olympians. DT is their staple yes. He has is own following yes. He will put OSU back in the top three yes. But Cael is responsible for all of these athletes. The whole wrestling world knows this.

Jeff is very knowledgeable and respectful of the sport and DT. He knows what DT can bring. Zach can’t seem to take the PSU blinders off. His comments are very biased. Jeff had to basically inform him what DT brings to the table. Ok St isn’t over taking PSU next season. Give it 5 years. DT is going to make huge impact. As a wrestling fan from PA. I’m very excited to watch.
If Haines follows DT to Stillwater you countermeasure that by putting Mesenbrink in whatever weight class Haines will be in

To be honest with the portal being closed taking a great high school class would be huge.
It opens up for 2 weeks or something like that when a new coach comes in. Not sure the specifics it may only be transfers out and not in but I know it is a short period it reopens

Osu problem is that it is still in the big 12. A lot of schools dropped wrestling and not spending money wrestling. There is more money in the big ten

David Taylor has never held a position to produce such champions, therefore that argument is flawed. David Taylor was a MAJOR recruiting piece for college athletes (Levi Haines, Messenbrink, etc) and he started the M2 wrestling club that fed into the Penn State program. It’s well known that Oklahoma State Wrestling is the single most dominant dynasty in collegiate wrestling history. Every high school recruit has Oklahoma State on their list to visit. Having David Taylor is a major draw to Oklahoma State, but as he said in his press conference he has basically received an unlimited spending allowance to kick start the Cowboy wrestling club and OSU will provide endless opportunities for wrestlers who attend this program. You also have to take into account the coaches - every coach on the staff is still within their elite years of wrestling and can still compete with the best in the world on any given day. As DT said, if you’re going to coach you need to be in the wrestling room WRESTLING with your student athletes, and that’s what he intends to do. I think Oklahoma State will eventually return to the dynasty it was once known for. Penn State isn’t going anywhere, but some day soon we will be seeing them competing against one another on the national stage.

I don't foresee any wrestlers from Penn State going to Oky st. What I do see is that the recruiting battle with Oky st is going to heat up big time.
I doubt any current wrestlers are leaving PSU. It’s a good situation for them. Possibly a few could leave next year if they get a NIL offer that’s too good to pass up. Many have refused better NIL offers to go to PSU. We are Penn State. Long live the dynasty

Wrestling and Cael Sanderson are the ultimate in college wrestling currently and for the a lo g time to come. David Taylor is not! Shit he wasn't even oklahoma"s first, or second choice. DRAMA QUEEN!
Number one, it’s Oklahoma State and not Oklahoma. If you knew anything about us you wouldn’t make that mistake. Oklahoma is a different school. Number two, David Taylor was not available when we were initially trying to make a choice and had not lost at the Olympic trials. Also, people were asking for him in private before any of this took place. Number three, we are already stacked as a team and will be top 3 again very soon. Would have done that anyway without Taylor but not we will be competing for a national title very soon with DT. I could say more but maybe you need to stop living in denial of what’s happening.

It'll start to show in a few years when he has brought wrestlers in with the mindset that he's looking for. Hard to change that mindset of improvement over outcome to current wrestlers on the roster. Only because they weren't coached that way... Yet..

Here is the deal, why is anybody worried where David Taylor goes or who Oklahoma State hires as wrestling coach? This is the next part of David Taylor life and he is married right? And this is where wrestling all his life led him, to coaching. Obviously Oklahoma State thinks he will be a great coach and that all that matter’s. And Cael Sanderson should be happy that this young men who wrestle for him and was such a great student athlete at Penn State got a great coaching job!! That mean’s Cael did his job right while David was at Penn State. Congratulations on your next chapter David.
