WRC is the top league for professional drivers and car manufacturers. It is the championship with the highest competition. It requires "cat sense" driving skills and high-end engineering solutions. Every well known car maker had to prove their capabilities in rally stages. Some attempts were magnificent, some were very bland but some went down in history as one offs to this day. Here is top 10 list of rally cars which made history.

are you talking about the cars? or the drivers?! Cars are still used in many classic rallies and.. well, For example, Carlos Sainz keeps driving, keeps winning, and he has even won a few Dakar rallies recently! And he's like 60 yo or something! lol

Watching this I realize Codemasters did a great job creating the sound of the rally cars in Dirt Rally 2.0.
I hope they make another one for this gen. Ive never seen any racing sim be as intense, fun and stylish as dirt rally 2, i bet they can do even better though
@@ninjascroll1017 I'm hoping Codies come up with an open world rival to Forza Horizon. Imagine an open world racing, driving, drifting game made by Codies, with more realistic driving physics, more sim-my than Horizon, and the same calibre of engine and exhaust notes as in Dirt Rally/Grid.... ...And they have just been bought by EA so who knows. Horizon could do with some actual competition.
The Alpine is absolutely note perfect in Dirt Rally 2 for example.
It's so sad that companies like Subaru and Audi aren't in WRC anymore. That is heritage right there!

The sound of the celica banging and popping on its approach through the forest on a night stage long before it could be seen is one of my clearest memories of watching the RAC rally in the UK I the 90s. Awesome

What No Lancia Rally 037, by far the best Tarmac Rally car of all time and it beat the Four Wheel drive Audi Quattro to win the World Rally Championship for Lancia in 1983, what a fabulous piece of engineering and beautiful too !!!

What year? Just Imp or Wrx/STi? I really want to buy a 2.5Rs and swap out the engine/transmission with an 2.5 ej205/207. I would even settle for an 04 WRB STi, but as time goes on, and depending on what part of the world you live in the options are dwindling day after day. I live in Oregon and most older WRX/STi are ridiculous when it comes to pricing and mileage. It’s becoming painfully apparent I’ll have to look for a newer year/model. Parts are just too expensive and they’re always being modded which is fine if you intend on keeping the car like I would. The newer models from my perspective are way less rally spirited, and more like every other sedan stylizing on the road. Slightly longer wheel base, different engine even. Also I’m not a fan of the wing design lol. Reminds me of an EVO… I said it. Before my time, or before combustion is no more I must own one of these beautiful machines. My brother had an 02 and 06 STi. I guess that’s where most of my affinity stems from. Sorry, all I was trying to say was I’m happy for you! 😎
That Stratos sounds like pure anger, love it!

This is definetly a Evo VI, so Jaska knows shit! Tommi didn't dominate these subarus, these were the P1's from slightly later. Tommi drove against Subaru Legacys not Imprezas. Also this list is about noise, so in my opinion the Evo shouldn't even be on it as it sounds the worst of the whole ten

The Audi quattro changed rally so significantly it should be in the top slot, best sounding I'd go with either it or the Subarus.
Best sounding? Integrale on the overrun? Quattro S1? And of course one could hear a Stratos leave the start when standing five miles away or more...

Most electrifying . Most dynamic . Most Cool . Still Impreza WRC Prodrive driven by Colin McRae . Cleanest smoothest is still Sebastien Loeb Citroen Xsara WRC. Most constant and safe is still Tommi Makinen EVO 3-6 WRC. Most strategies planning still is Timo Salonen 205 T16 WRC.
Quickest? The late, great Henri Toivonen in ANYTHING. Most electrifying and dynamic? Markku Alén, 037 and S4.
The Alpine A110 definitely wins the beauty contest.
The A110 is one of the most beautiful rally cars ever for sure. As an Essex boy you can't beat the Escorts though. I also have a massive soft spot for the Lancia Delta, RS200, Celica, 6R4 and Stratos too.

Spec of Lancia Delta are wrong. The specs that you put in the video are of the Delta S4.
Davide of course i absolutely agree with you and it's sure that who made this ranking isn't a lancista; So forget it; 7Th place in the ranking for the Stratos? I don't think so!! 6th place for the Toyota Celica?? A car that always has seen the Delta only from the behind?? I don't think so too!!
He's talking about the difference between the Delta S4, and the Delta intagrale HF which is the one listed. The Delta S4 i the group B variant boasting 500hp an runs a supercharger, and turbo charger simultaneously for a seamless acceleration like how an NA engine would run essentially. The HF Intagrale came into scene after the group days and only ran around 290hp.
Henri Toivonen is missing from the Lancia Delta driver list he was the most insane one of them... The Delta made about 550-600bhp according to Markku alen.

The Lancia Delta still gives me a hard-on after all these years, a absolute beast!! The top 4 I definitely agree with. You should’ve put Burn’s (RIP) under the named drivers for the Evo, IMO that was his best period.
All great cars. My favourites are Evo, Quattro, Impreza, Celica and Escort. I have had only one of these great cars..

No Lancia 037? Something's missing here. Being World Champoin on 2WD on a 4WD dominated Group B was a huge achievement. I think it deserved a place there. A lot more than the HF. That was a group A car. It was all that was left after the Group B was canceled.

You are wrong about the 205 t16 Poweroutput: 350 (Evo 1) 440-500 (Evo 2) Weight: 920 kg Engine: 1.8 Litre , mid inline 4.
MC Taipan group b was so lax we dont really know what they really ran considering they would sometimes just bump up the boost for select stages.
Following this logic we really know nothing about power outputs, because rally engines actually had different powers depending on spec prepared for each rally. We only know that ports couldn't be bigger than something, and some parts lighter than something because that was written in homologation. Power outputs seem to be wrong in many cars. The stratos for example had 265 to 320 depending on engine version.
yeah some say the delta s4 that had like 480hp was probably beeing boosted for like double that in the rally group b was scary D:

Nothing will ever come close to the sounds and thrill of Group B....
Great list !! Has to be rewritten though with the 2022 WRC beasts taking the top 3 spots.... That off throttle growl is what my (wet) dreams are made of.

Randall Flagg, I think you'll find its called Escort RS as the RS2000 was a group A car and the Escort RS a group 4 car.
The Lancia Delta was a Group A car, the engine output was limited to ~300hp by homologation.

The Toyota Celica was the most beautiful and iconic of them all with that sporty design and the Castrol paint job. Probably was the best car too.
Toyota Celica GT 4 was definitely the best Japanese rally car and yes i agree its design was nice , but the best rally car ever was Lancia HF integrale for many reasons .
Celica is not a good looking car at all.there are so many other cars way way better
Paint job? Best of all just had to be the Martini livery as carried by the 037 and S4. The Totip livery carried by Lancia's No2 team wasn't bad either...

the Celica and Delta is one my favorite race cars of all time, the Xsara is pretty awesome to drive in RBR too, but so was the Ford Focus driven by Gronholm. Wished the 911 SC was on the list, one of the most controllable 2WD rally cars ever. The Pugeot 205 had this weird thing where it flew and slid funny because of the imbalance of having the center of balance over just one of the rear wheels.
sigh... reminds me of the good ol' days of pizza delivery... lol

Even a Lancia Delta S4 fan like myself would have to disagree with the Peugeot 205 coming in at #8? It was the most successful Gruppe B car in the most competitive years (85-86), want two years in a row. Shame on you.
Especially since the 1st Peugeot was 350 hp and the Evolution 2 was around 500 hp (according to official values), I do not know where he went to take his figures

They have been rallying the MK2 Escort for 46yrs, you can buy a brand new MK2 today with a 350HP Millington engine, i would say the Escort is the most used & successful rally car of all time, the rest are all history now.

The specifications for the #1, the Delta, are actually the ones of a Delta S4, with 460hp 1800cc and 890kg..., the delta from the video had max 300 hp.

I would say the number one should be either the Lancia Stratos or the Audi Sport Quattro. The Integrale is a great car but it shrinks when it comes to comparation between rally legends like Stratos, Quattro, S4 or 205 T16

I was expecting to see the NSU TTS because it sounds really good but in this video the Escort 1800 RS is my favourite.
Purely on the fact that it won 100s if not 1000s of rallies world-wide over the years, the Escort really should have topped the list. Even today in historic rallying, the car behaves wonderfully.
Man the old days really were the best.. just look at all different shapes, so cool! Todays WRC's are all the same hatchback shape so there's nothing different to look at, and that is quite boring :( Love love love the Alpine, to think someone turned that beauty of a car and took it rallying and in rally spec looked even MORE beautiful, awesome!
But they offer the same spectacle as the old days. Today's wrc cars are the fastest rally cars to this date.

This video was one of the best about rally cars ! Yes indeed all those cars are legendary vehicles that wrote history but number one was my personal favorite of them all ! Lancia HF integrale is a compact pocket rocket with 4WD and superb turbo sound , but apart from the sound it produces , this car has the handling of a Go Kart and the speed of a fighter jet over tarmac or gravel. It take a "real" driver to tame that bull and who ever did managed that , of course is known by now throughout the rallies !!!! Perhaps the most incredible Italian car , affordable considering other Italian beasts like Ferrari and Lamborghini but equal , this car has its own character and soul !!!! Second best was the Audi s1sport quattro which is power output was 680 BHP and not 500 BHP as shown here . Audi S1 without all the body kit and rear wing would probably fly off at some point .
