    • Sometimes the trap doesn't have pressure plates or trip wires because the trap is a rune. Sometimes they are put on the other sides of doors so you can not see them until they hit you. Many times there isn't any way around them other than through them. Though I guess you could send Lydia to stand by the rune to set it off.

    • Good point. The perk in the sneak tree that eliminates the possibility of setting off traps does not apply to runes. That's why a good thief might take the atronach stone & get spell absorption to 100% to be able to walk right through runes.

    • Creature summons that you cast, such as summon Fire Ateonach etc, are considered to be self-targeting. Therefore both the Atronach stone and the Ateonach alteration perks are poor picks, unless you are into roleplaying a chaos character and you like the fickle feel of having your spells cancel. FM actually allude to this at the beginning of the video when they mention their exception cases.

  • The Atronach stone in Oblivion was a lot of fun. Not having regenerating magicka made you actually use potions a lot and made you think more about your actions.

    • In Oblivion, you select a celestial birthsign in the beginning of the game that will determine your attributes and stats throughout the rest of the game. Each of the Standing Stones in Skyrim are crafted in the images of the constellations from which the player chooses their specialty in Oblivion. The Atronach constellation in Oblivion gave a passive 150 extra points of Magicka and 50% Spell Absorption. To counteract these godly mage-buffing abilities, your magic would not naturally regenerate. You had to drink potions, rest or absorb hostile spells to get Magicka back. And if you wanted to be able to regenerate Health without potions or spells, you'd have to pick the Lord constellation, which imparted the Trollkin curse on the player- wherein you could regenerate up to 90 Health, but had a permanent 50% weakness to Fire.

    • resting didn't work either... you had to go to chapels and stuff

    • Or you could have just used the Mage birthsign. 50 extra magicka with no strings attached. Pairs well with being a Breton since they also gain a 50 point magicka boost, plus they have 50% magic resistance, works out great if you wear a Mundane ring to max it out to 100%.

      @JacobByus@JacobByus7 жыл бұрын
    • Mage is a better option for an Altmer in Oblivion to get more magicka (Although Atronach is what is best for Altmer so that they have a massive pool of magicka and recieve mitigation to their weaknesses. Just master alchemy and Restore Magicka potions become easy to make and can restore your entire pool with one potion.) For Bretons, the best birthsign is Apprentice. Yes, this will give them 100% Weakness to Magicka, but you already have a 50% Resistance to Magicka to counter this, and enemies hardly, if ever use Damage and Absorb Health effects anyway, which are the only damage types that Weakness/Resistance to Magicka actually applies to. You only recieve half the weakness, but then you get a whopping 100 more magicka, putting you on the same level as an Altmer with the Mage sign with much less weaknesses.

  • "If your character has 500 armor rating why would you want a measly 50 points more?" Actually the way the armor curve works is with increasing returns right before the cap. Armor cap is ~567 (depends on how many pieces you're wearing, because wearing an armor piece has a hidden 25 point armor bonus, which is dumb, but anyway), so if you were at 500 armor rating, the last 50 points or so would actually be the most effective points you could add. Take an example, assuming you're not a shield user: You get hit for 100 physical damage by some warhammer power attack. You wear 4 pieces of armor for a displayed armor rating of 500. This gives a damage reduction percentage of 500 x .12 + 3 x 4 = 72%, so that instead you are dealt 28 points of damage. Now you get hit for 100 physical damage by some warhammer power attack while wearing the same 4 pieces of armor for a displayed armor rating of 550. This gives a damage reduction percentage of 550 x .12 + 3 x 4 = 78%, so that you are dealt 22 points of damage. The percent difference between the two hits is: (28-22)/28 * 100 = 21.4%, that is, your armor is 21.4% more effective with that next 50 points. Running the same example for an untempered light armor example of 100 AR vs 150 AR would actually give a percent difference of only 7.9% additional effectiveness. For people playing on higher difficulties and/or with mods that buff enemies, those last few points of armor are extremely important. This isn't an argument for the Lord Stone, however, as if you really need those last few points you should just level smithing and smith better gear. Just a point to remind people about the importance of the last few points of AR.

    • I agree with your comment. It is pretty easy to get to the AR cap, so for the most part that extra 50 points is going to be useless. In the early game or if you don’t use smithing. The Lord stone can be very useful. Especially on higher difficulties. That being said. The Atronach has always been my favorite since Morrowind. That hasn’t changed in this iteration of the series.

  • I always prefer the stones that give passive bonuses as opposed to the ones that give you an ability that can be used once a day, though this does include the Atronach Stone! I find they're just better overall since you get their bonuses all the time instead of just using a power then having to either wait or sleep til the next day to recharge it, very limited if you ask me compared to the passive stones, especially if you're in the middle of a dungeon and have already used the power.

  • Remember that with 50% spell absorbtion when you shout, it has a 50% chance to not work, when you summon an atronoch it has a 50% chance to not work. Also, if you are a Mage (at a high level) you don't need the spell absorbtion as you should have spells costing barely anything and a huge pool of magicka. 85% magic resistance is better than 100% spell absorbtion because it doesn't affect the spells you can cast. Lord stone forever!

  • How to break Skyrim: 1. Get the Atronach Stone and perk 2. Get the Necromage perk 3. Become a vampire Congratulations. You now have 100% Spell Absoprtion. Skyrim is an easy enough game to break without the Standing Stones, so I never use them anymore.

    • Break? That isn't the right word. Abuse maybe but if it's possible in the game then it still really ins't abuse it's just taking advantage of what Bethesda has given you.

      @kaylethejudicator2368@kaylethejudicator23687 жыл бұрын
    • On the contrary. The Necromage perk impacts all magical affects on undead, including vampires. The Necromage perk increases things like natural elemental weaknesses and resistances if the player becomes a vampire, and elemental spells will deal more damage to undead opponents. The Atronach Stone and the Atronach Perk from the Alteration tree are affected, boosting the efficacy of the Spell Absorption from each, bringing the Spell Absorption up to 100% if the player becomes a vampire with the Necromage perk. Fire, Frost, Shock and Magic Resistance do however cap at 85%.

      @aidankeogh9994@aidankeogh99947 жыл бұрын
    • Damnit. I just made this comment too. You're right. Vampire necromage with atronach stone & perk is unbeatable. Combine it with the Orc berserker rage or Argonian hitskin racial abilities and ebonyflesh/dragonhide before going into vampire lord form, and you can easily deal with any opponents dealing physical damage too.

    • Not really. I know people who take everything from a dungeon without missing a thing and thus like using the steed stone. I also know other people who like having the powers granted by the shadow, ritual and serpent stones. So really what you said is a bit harsh

      @the1ghrol@the1ghrol7 жыл бұрын
    • BloodBathGaming Guy Harsh? I'm just saying that there are only 2 stones (atronach and lady) that provide solid benefits for a late game character. Serpent isn't better than an infinite charge paralysis weapon, spell, or poison. Tower is only for people who hate locks. Shadow stone is negligible compared to the nightingale power, potions, and spells. Conjurer is fun but situational and system intensive. And none of these should be used as an active stone since Atherium crown makes them infinite use. Warrior, mage, thief, and lover are for leveling only. Steed is ok but only to make money. Lord is slightly inferior to Atronach but I guess after many conversations on this video I accept it as a viable alternative.

      @matthewcoyle4131@matthewcoyle41317 жыл бұрын
  • Also, keep in mind that magic resist caps at 85% while spell absorption has no cap. A necromage vampire with Antronach Stone and Atronach perk makes you completely immune to any form of magic and allows you to absorb the magicka of any spell cast on you. The downside is that you are also unable to use a lot of spells due to them being absorbed.

    @Lolersters@Lolersters6 жыл бұрын
    • Yep. Spell absorption is such an interesting double-edge sword in Skyrim, especially on legendary difficulty: One the one hand, it greatly protects you from some of the deadliest attacks on higher difficulties that you can't simply game-plan around with summons and a follower (since many spells will still zip right past them and even through terrain that you might hide behind), but on the other hand, it prevents the strongest thing you can do on legendary difficulty (until you completely max out all 3 crafting professions): Conjuration. That puts you into a very interesting position, but it also enables some interesting non-summons-based play-styles.

      @Nr4747@Nr47477 ай бұрын
  • Atronach Stone is only good if you use the unofficial patch, otherwise it can get bugged so you can't cast self-target cloak spells or summon atronachs.

    @GCJACK83@GCJACK837 жыл бұрын
    • HerpyDerpyDoo11 spell absorb will never stop you from using flesh spells or cloak spells. As for atronarch/ dremora, that is correct but you can still raise the dead and thralls can be stronger that any summon. Also, you can use dead thrall on those two dremora in the shrine of mehrunes dagon. Thralls are better because you can give them legendary enchanted weapons/armor and use them as unlimited storage. The only summon that I use is the ash guardian and that works unlike most other summons. I won't use that patch because it takes away the necromage effect of the atronarch stone which is tremendously stupid. It's like saying I'm undead and have put in the time to grind my restoration and every effect is stronger than me since I'm undead but nope, not that atronarch stone even though it's the most balanced effect when it's effected by necromage since the negative effects are boosted too.

Being able to kill a dungeon, come out with all the inhabitants, then raid an imperial camp and raise them all too, then a town, then a second town, and basically have over 400 followers is extremely strong.

Plus, it makes armor of the same type that you are wearing in your inventory (say you're wearing dwarven boots: all dwarven boots in your inventory also weight nothing), so it's a nice way to have multiple armor pieces for different needs: boots for pickpocket/locking, another for archery/1-handed, etc. yay exploits ;)

If you max out the Sneak and have Shadow Warrior, the hidden effect during couching is consider a spell and the Atronach stone effect will absorb some magicka from it by just simply crouching. • In Skyrim, your main priority is to gain as much resistance to magic as you can. In the late game, melee and arrows shouldn't be a problem anymore, but because magic can pierce armor, and they can do a lot of damage, you're going to need a lot of resistance towards spells. Because the Atronach Stone gives you a solid flat 50% resistance, and absorption towards magic with little to no downside, other than 50% less magic regen, this stone is simply the best for late-game Skyrim. Every class and race can benefit from this stone, but I prefer the Breton since he also starts with another 25% magic resistance.

But to actually answer your question: Refering to the list of bugs the USKP or USLEEP mods adressed this issue. So using one of these should help you out. Just don't be to optimistic because it may as well not work. There are many mods out there that simply undo the changes made by those bugfix-mods.

Perks can replace 90% of what it does and the carry weight can be replaced with an enchantment or you can use a thrall for unlimited storage. Being the best implies that it actually does something that you couldn't do otherwise.

    • I only ever use the steed stone too lol. Can't have enough carry weight! Since i collect a lot so it's essential for me. Yes, perks help, like the deep pockets perk but u know wat's better? The steed stone with the perks! Plus i'd rather use the points on other perks instead of having to get to the heavy armor weighs nothing perk. Enchantments are pointless as even though more carry weight would be good, i need enchantments on my items that make me more powerful. Thralls are awful. Companions in general are infuriating as they get in the way & once i did use a thrall it disappeared as it wasn't allowed to enter a certain area. After shrugging it off & a day of playing i realized everyone in the game wouldn't speak to me & give me quests cuss i was 'using dangerous spell' i found out it was a bug as even summoning 2 more thralls or dead wouldn't stop it as i'd have 3 operational in my active efects with 1 being 9999 hours lol, so i had to reload a save before i had the thrall so 'loads wasted ! So no thralls! Solo play it is! Most other stones are pointless as u end up so powerful u don't need the extra help. From around level 50 onwards at least. But in the end there is no best as it depends on each person's use of it.

      @WatsHisFace@WatsHisFace7 жыл бұрын
    • WatsHisFace I would rather use one fortify carry enchantment and use the atronarch stone and save myself from using magic resist slots. Also I use fortify carry on my boots where my only alternative as a 2nd enchantment are resist magicka or elemental resist which are actually useless to me. I made my character immune to magic without enchantments so I think I can spare one for +carry and still have all of the powerful enchantments. I have never encountered that glitch when using thralls nor has anyone else that I know of encountered it. When you have thralls up, people will tell you to stay away with that dangerous spell but they will still talk to you and give you quests, it's just the annoying dialogue whenever you get close. It is true that thralls will sometimes disappear but a lot of times this is due to user error. Always make sure that your thrall isn't too far before you change cells and when your thrall doesn't following you into a cell, go out the door that you came and it should be there, however "don't exit the cell through a different door that you entered or that thrall will just disappear. When you come to an area where a thrall can't follow, just kill it and then come back when you're done. If a thrall does vanish on you all you need to do is a werewolf/vampire lord transformation or use the whirlwind cloak and they will die instantly whether you can see them or not. Also Thralls can be extremely strong when you choose those that are higher level and smith/enchant their gear and give them legendary weapons combined with call to arms. My thralls can tank and kill dragons for me when I don't feel like doing the work. Also, only 9999 hours? I have 2 that will last me 72496 hours. My last point however is that the atronarch stone surpasses your lvl 50 "usefulness" cap since if you're playing on legendary magic hurts at any level. On legendary a magical attack will drop your health so fast it's ridiculous at any level. I got my Breton to lvl217 and when I take magic absorb off those dragons hurt a lot and this is with 70% magic resistance.

      @jamesjabs3517@jamesjabs35177 жыл бұрын
    • The length of time doesn't matter since watever i did it would be stuck in my active effects. It would not disappear. Regarding the speech, any person i spoke to just spoke about using dangerous spells. It's wat brought it to my attention. When it disappeared i summoned 2 things to kill it then carried on playing as usual until i decided to finally go to the person the quest pointer was telling me. Got to him and he just went on about the spell with no dialog options appearing at all. Since i had no thralls or summons active i looked at active effects and dead thrall was there! Tried everything but it just wouldn't go so i couldn't carry on with the quest. Looked it up and the only cure was reloading a save. But i had already overwritten mosts saves so had to fall back to the previous day! I was devastated! Lmao. Since then i barley use them. If i do i make sure they're dead again before moving on. I don't want to babysit them while they travel with me. Btw this was on PS3 back in 2011.

    • A.O.T.L Tng I use the Steed stone in the beginning because I always loot the khajit's merchant chests. When I have enough stamina and carrying strength, about 500+, I use the Lord's stone.

  • On survival mode that reduced magical regen hits hard, 1st teir of tired adds in 40% reduction as well so your magicka regens 90% slower. It barely regens at all at that point without some good gear.

  • With draugr after a while, they stop using frost spells, and start using shouts, which are don’t get absorbed. Next, conjuration you cast can also be absorbed, so trying to summon something can be stopped, next, not every build needs magic resistance, and it can start to feel OP if you get past about 45%, next, just because something is “a convenience perk” doesn’t mean it is bad. 100 extra weight is much more useful most of the time, when you can’t get to a safe chest to use. Also, the steed stone gives access to the non-weight perks from heavy and light armor

  • The other thing is that spell absorption + circle of protection causes you to regen tons of magic in combat.

  • I like playing as a lightly armored “berserker” orc and I normally swear by the Lord stone. However, now I’m going to have to try out the Atronach to see if it works for me.

  • There are couple of things to consider. While I generally agree that Atronach is superior there are some points make for the magic resist. Spell absorption can't be enchanted into items. Magic resist can. And it has good synergy with elemental resistances. The point is - resistance is going to be more valuable for characters with low hitpoints - 80% chance to completely mitigate a spell is nothing if 20% will still kill you. Resistance gives you more reliable reaction window as it diminishes the overall effect. Second point - even mages should generally wear armour. Perks that increase your effectiveness without armour are a waste if you consider the fact that top tier alteration spell forces armour cap anyway, but the point is - casting such spell uses up magicka that could be spent elsewhere. So it is better to have a passive armour cap from armour. On non-breton characters - you can reach 70% magic resist without. This is huge still. And it is still beneficial for a shield-wielding fighter, if you have elemental protection perk, you can further decrease incoming elemental damage by 50%. This nearly completely negates any elemental magic damage. If you manage to cap out both elemental and magic resist - you can negate around 97% of magic damage. Sure, this requires some solid enchanting or item swapping but still. There is also one major downside to spell absorption - it interferes with conjuration.

  • love the atronach stone for the defense it provides. but at the same time I run a MOD called character creation overhaul with the permanent stone effect on. can choose any that I want but am stuck with that for the whole of the playthrough. I enjoy it more that way.
