Last year's wooden roses video continues to draw many views, so this year I decided to make another, but changing it up to copper. I did a voiceover version of the video if you want more information or questions answered:

  • Wow really nice. I did a similar project with brass and silver alternating petals between the layers. I gotta say a rolling mill really helps on cutting down hammer time. I might advise an use of a punch to make the central pin to spread. It offers a more concentrated force and makes it hard to accidentally hit the leaves in case of a slip. If you manage to make a inverted ball shape on the tip \^/ like this , it will behave as a beading tool for stone setting. It will mushroom the material fast and if brought to a good finish it will make it even shiny. :)

  • Use the ball of the hammer when riveting. Gives you better control and less risk of making sharp dents in the plate around it.

  • Is there any metal nicer than copper to work with? It certainly is my favourite by some margin. The feel of it and the way it works shows in the end result. I never miss the opportunity to pick up any bits that are going spare every chance I get. I think of my box of spare copper bits as beauty in waiting!. I have made some kinetic sculptures that weather and age beautifully, the colours are gorgeous.
