  • A 6"x6"x.25" piece of delrin added to your fishing kit takes up little space but sure saves knife sharpening when cutting bait. Rocks and bait knives really don't go well together.

  • Funny story. Before my grandfather passed, we went fishing at Lake Livingston. This lake has a dam that looks like where you are. Long story short, he was fishing on the bottom while I decided to top water, I know catfish normally stay on bottom. Well this will surprise, I caught the biggest cat I ever had. 15 lbs of pure goodness. I forgot to measure him. My grandfather said if you catch another one like that I'm going top water. 😂 it was not snagged. We had a lot of fun. Unfortunately that was the last time we went fishing together, but what a memory. BTW I did catch onother one but not very big. All total we caught 15 cats that day. 8hrs.

    • That’s awesome! These catfish at this spot will actually hit top water lures too when they start pushing shad to the surface! I hope to catch that on camera one day!

    • If you fish with a weighted cork you can catch cat fish below Livingston dam or any other dam with a 1'to 6' lead . Catfish feed shad sometime so if they are chasing shad they're going to bite regardless of depth

  • What a great day of catfishing!!! Excellent job!!! "Speaking" of fishing "The Big Ditch--- the Cape Cod Canal" someday, as you have expressed in the past... and again saying that you need a different set-up for catfishing that particular spillway... The fishing conditions of both of those two spots are quite similar. Rocky shore, although the Canal's rocks are EXTREMELY slippery due to wet seaweed... very fast and strong current.... rocky bottom... BIG STRONG Fish (Stripers, bluefish, bonito, etc.) Here's a suggestion / thought for you. Give the folks at Red Top Sporting Goods, Buzzards Bay, MA... Or Canal Bait & Tackle, Bourn, MA, a jingle.Tell them about your spillway fishing and what you are catching... and ask if they might recommend a good "Canal Stick"... which I believe could / would serve both purposes well. Many of the Canal Sticks are in the 11' range, though I have seen them as long as 14'!!! Also, many of the "old timers" prefer a conventional type, over spinning, reel. And many many, including myself, will acquire a top notch rod blank, and tie up their own "sticks." That way you not only get exactly what you want, but you have the lifetime of pride knowing that you did it for yourself!!!! Like what you experience when eating from your own gardens. Anyways... just a thought for you to ponder... Oh!!! If / when you ever do make it up to the Canal... a couple of those big time catfishing excursions might be exactly what you need to get you "tuned up" for a Canal Blitz!!!! Enjoy!!!

I definitely haven’t had hook ups like that for catfish for years now!!! But when it does happen it is definitely very fun and very tiring very quickly and especially if they are all big ones also!!! I definitely don’t think that you caught one over 20lbs but that one at just over 19lbs was definitely very close!!! Still all amazing fish for sure!!! I bet if you wouldn’t have caught them shad that you was using for bait that was also swimming around there that they wouldn’t have bitten like they did for you also!!! They just thought that they was the same fish that had been swimming around and that has to be what they was feeding on!!! Awesome video buddy!!!

  • Cole, it breaks my heart to see you cut those shad on a rock. I bought a nylon cutting board at a thrift store and cut to fit in my catfish box. ( I have five boxes. One for each type of fish that I intend to go for) . It works out great, and several anglers have been using my idea. On my double-sided box, I use a couple of bungee cords to keep it in place. I'm pretty "anal" about my gear and refuse to buy cheap, throw-away tools. I buy it to last. Beautiful spot, beautiful fish. It could only be better if Jay were there.

    @walterchapman2884@walterchapman28849 ай бұрын
    • The rig he is using really ain’t meant for bottom fishing in one spot. It’s a bumping rig. If you have current this rig would work but the weight will depend VASTLY on the amount of current. If you fishing on bottom I suggest a santee cooper rig but even then you will still get snagged. If you don’t have any current use a large slip float. It’s a game of give and take, the closer you are to the snags the better the fishing will be, but also the more likely you are going to snag up. Look up how to bump for catfish if you want to learn how to use the rig he is using.
