i think the problem you encounter is because the cmos battery. I had encounter one the same scenario + the date is messing arround. When i swap the cmos battery with a new one, fixed. (I have Optiplex9020MT

my understanding it that these hp mobos are proprietary, the I/O connections are different than the standard ones. can you explain? thanks.

- Well, the older HP motherboard front panels are not difficult to connect. As long as you identify which pin is the Power Switch and Reset, you can simply plug it into any other case front panel. At 11:00, you will see me unplug the Power Switch and reconnect it.

Ideal gpu for that PC is Gtx 1070 with slight bottleneck, it is under 100 dollars nowdays

- Thanks I really appreciate the feedback. I do have a 1070 Ti but the downside I will try to find a Z97 mobo because th HP mobo can't do any overclock or support higher ram speed

- @ZeRDTechGaming some of these types of PCs support faster RAM with later bios... strange I know. May be worth looking into. Won't get you OC but might improve ram speeds in meantime
