Nikki is soo impressed by Ali,she cant even stop blushing.
+A Scant Nikki with her pretty self just adores beautiful Muhammad Ali. He's THE MAN!
Lol right!!!! She is adorable and so is he!
Definitely:)
Antonio Scant She does look like she's blushing lol!!!!
Antonio Scant you would be star struck too!
When I was a kid, I didn't like Muhammad Ali. I had learned from my parents that he was boastful, a draft dodger, and so on. What they really meant was that he was a Black man who didn't know his place. But I bought into it and rooted against him in his fights. Now, all these years later, after watching many interviews I never saw when I was young, and after learning a bit about the ways of the world, my view has changed completely. He was a hero. And I do not use that word lightly. He was a great boxer, but his real greatness was as a man and a leader. And not just for Black Americans struggling to recover a stolen culture, but to ALL people facing injustice. It takes a BIG man to do what he did, to sacrifice what he did, to stand up as he did. I apologize for taking so long to recognize this. I know now that when he claimed to be the greatest, it was a jest and a ploy. But he really is.
You are big man yourself. peace out
It takes a big man to change his corrupted views after so many years...:) Peace..and yes Ali is a hero!
@ Blake Ashley....... i give you ALL OF YOUR PROPS, BLAKE...........THANKS FOR HAVING YOUR OWN MIND !!!!
@Blake Ashley, many black families drank that Kool-Aid. We felt as you did, with the poison of being "embarrassed for" Muhammad Ali/Cassius Clay. How lost we all were. It took truly paying attention to what he did in Africa and these 'hidden interviews' to understand the depth of his courage and spirit. A hero/revolutionary right before our eyes! Apology not necessary, your honesty is refreshing! Also what HEAT1996 says is truth.
Blake Ashley exactly
Who wouldn't be impressed, he's one of the greatest human beings to ever exist.
I was fortunate to meet Ali in 91. I had the chance to spend some time talking to him. It was one of the highlights of my life. There is no one like him.
My God everyone in this clip is so beautiful, the audience, the host what a beautiful smile.
Not at all familiar Nikki Giovanni, however I fell in love immediately she is beautiful, intelligent, and sexy I love this interview. I'm Black and I'm Proud.
@@melemel1927 I hope by now you've read Nikki Giovanni's poetry. Check out her most famous poem, Ego Tripping.
the natural Beauty need no makeup
Soo much happiness in that room, such lovely memories.
Az ElO Speak on that! This brings tears of joy, appreciation and longing for Muhammad. Nikki Giovanni is beautiful, charismatic, poised and uber plugged in to her guest and audience. Wow. Ali Boombaya!
The room is filled with natural beauty
This was during the height of the Black Power Movement. You can clearly see why our enemies sought to destroy it. Look at how noble our people were. Beautiful black people.
Yessir.
Why do blacks always make it about race
@@user-uc7qb1su4e are you serious? I'm not even black and I can't handle your ignorance
Love the spirit in the room. Makes life feel good
@@user-uc7qb1su4e because whites made it that way. White people started this foolishness!
I believe Ali was a genius, very wise, could give a speech anywhere, when he spoke everyone stopped and listened. He gave me an autograph when I was 10, he had a broken jaw from Ken Norton and could barely talk, but he made time to try to talk to us kids. I'm 57 now, and wouldn't take anything for the autograph. He was my hero and a whole lot of white people like myself loved him.
Muhammad made the security guards keeping people away from him.. He made let me through all alone for 2 minutes and he talked and I made laugh so hard he had to forced himself to stop.I had imitated him to start the laughter. I got his autograph which I lost and a photo which I still have , I treasure it and My 2 min with Ali Next to my kids birth those were favorite ever. Not one person in the last 40 yrs has photo as good as mine. He was Kind Humble Friendly and He was My only Idol &The Greatest to Me personally that day and forever. Derek
Giovanni: "I'm bad at spelling too." You see this woman loves her black people so much she put aside the fact that she was then becoming one of America's most gifted authors, and just straight up joined in Ali's humbleness about how we all need to learn. I love how she just can't stop blushing! This is a great contrast to her interview with Baldwin where you feel she is much tougher on Jimmy because she's in her 'ring' with a champ. Here she's just soakin up all that Ali charm! Beautiful sister!
"They said I was mentally unable untill they heard I was a Muslim, then I was smart"
Allahuakbar!
@Ronald Macafee elijah muhammad was a false prophet and had many of secretaries pregnant.
@Ronald Macafee Are you serious? The Christ- Messiah from a so called muslim organisation! I think you are a little confused. To deny the obvious truth about this odious little man's philandering is just plain self deception. Wake up and stop hero worshipping someone who you wouldn't trust your daughter with.
@Ronald Macafee It would be better for you to at leastto know how to spell flea. Your now Christ Messiah was formerly the prophet of Islam, both titles are for your information according to Islamic Shariah law blasphemous. This puts whosoever subscribes to such a belief knowing the law and consequences derived there from outside the fold of Islam. This means if you die on this creed you die as an unbeliever. A minority sect originating in Detroit is really not the same as the Islam originating from Mecca by the final prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h Why don't you accept the Islam embraced by the son of Elijah Poole Jabir Herbert Mohammed and of course the great Mohammed Ali instead of this excommunicated sect which will put you in the hellfire for ever. I invite you to salvation and eternal life in heaven instead of damnation and eternal punishment in the hellfire. May Allah grant you guidance. Ameen.
Ali had a beautiful smile, rest in peace champ

Mr. Ali was a wonderful human being. A true Icon for the cause of Black people.
I love Muhammad Ali and he is such a intelligent and humble person. May Allah place Muhammad Ali in highest Jannah, Amiin.
He is so handsome and also eloquent.
🤲🏾
This was AMAZING. Words can't describe how beautiful, intelligent, blushing and educating this was for me. Ali THE G.O.A.T Nikki Giovanni poetic princess.
He often joked about being “the greatest of all times” and in doing so coined the phrase. And indeed he went on to become the greatest. RIP Muhammad Ali.
Miss Givaoni, That poem at the end was just ...absolutely remarkable❤
Happy 80th Birthday to GOAT. Love from Hyderabad India. 17th January 2022. Respect.
Champ! That era produced some of the finest humans to ever live all across the world
One of the greatest human beings that ever walked the earth..
If that’s what you think of him, then imagine how amazing the man he was named after and took as a role model must have been? Go do some research into the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and see for yourself.
Sister Nikk Giovanni is so inspiring with her poems talking about our great athlete mentor warrior and hero Baba Muhammad Ali.
Nikki looks beautifully natural.
You were the greatest and the smartest of all times!!! Period.
he was a humanitarian first before the boxer, compassion shines through more than ego
🎆Ali,forever*⚡💥⚡❤❤
The greatest.
You can never get tired listening to the greatest.
OMG! LOOK AT THE BEAUTIFUL NATURAL SISTAS IN THE AUDIENCE..AND NIKKI GIOVANNI...MY GOD...WHAT DA HELL HAPPENED??? WE NEED TO GET BACK TO OUR ROOTS!!!👊👊👊👊👊👊👊
D KNIGHTMAN no weaves at all and they were more beautiful.
I'm trying to figure out where you live. I've been natural for my whole adult life, and many of my friends are as well. The whole natural movement hits every single generation at some time or another. But if there are people who you know who don't know their roots, the best people to ask are their own parents. LOL. They are the ones who raised them to be however they are.
Yes right
People done lost there minds that's what happened. What happened to our culture after the 70's was a tragedy.

Whether you're here to see Ali or not, watch this entire video. You won't regret it.
I like to watch entire video
The ending piece by Nikki Giovanni was truly heart wrenching and beautiful. My goodness
I grew up loving Muhammad Ali and I'm neither African nor Muslim. I am a boxer but not on his caliber. Not even the best in the gym. I love what he stood for, how he spoke, how quick his clever wit was, his poems, how amazing he was in the ring and out. The man was compassionate in and out of the ring. As Foreman put it "he was the greatest man to ever box".
I love the way she talks
yes indeed!
Such a lovely unpretentious way
eloquent is the way I would describe it.
Ikr!!!
That what you call a _personality_
Nikki Giovanni IS so so Awesome, her poetry is absolutely beautiful.
great human, no drugs, no alcohol just a man doing well in his sport and life
"If his wife or children dont jump in the ring and stop it, its not my fault" lol! Muhammad Ali keeps me crackin up!
Sharica Andrews You are right. Our Hero Muhammad Ali 1942-2016. He was and Alway be Greatest American Muslim Boxer and Human Rights Activist.
@@tajmuhammad9688 just best boxer because there is no one who was better
I’m Evangelical Christian. I knew Muhammad Ali’s story since from 2016. But, words can’t explain. I’m so amazed by his ethics, & hard working.
I was brought to tears by Nikki's poem and the rhythm and tempo of how she reads it. I wasn't even born then but I come here to see these classic interviews ... they are full of wisdom. Rest in Greatness and Peace.
The last time i saw Nikki was over at DuSable in Chicago leading a discussion. That is the rhythm and artistry with which she TALKED naturally. At many points in that discussion, you thought she was reciting poetry, but she wasn't. She was just talking, and it was poetic and brilliant by nature.
Nikki Giovanni is still alive
I KNOW SHE IS STILL ALIVE, THE FAREWELL WAS TO OUR GREAT ANCESTOR JAMES BALDWIN 🙏🏾🕊
She did so many great interviews with James Baldwin!
Awesome interview by Nikki! I'm a 62 year old First Nations man from Canada who grew up watching and listening to Muhammad Ali's greatness, both in and out of the ring. I've never seen Nikki's program in my younger years and judging by what I watched today on this video it appears I've really missed out! .............Thank you kindly for sharing this memorable piece of history.
I love him more every time I watch old footage. The woman is a famous poet and writer.
veronica goss Our Nikki G was Blushing when She interview Late Muhammad Ali. Mix Race people are Beautiful Georgious and colourful indeed.
Mohammed Ali the greatest boxer the world will ever known. I am amazed how serious he took his religion of Islam.we are so grateful you visited our country of Guyana In1980.We are so saddened to know that you died in real life.your memory will always be with us by the people of the west indies
a treasure ... there should be a cable station created that just runs these old vids .... too much wisdom and knowledge and history is sitting buried somewhere not being given the light of day ... this is so inspirational ..
BET should.
heyjude1158 Agreed
heyjude1158 | Yeah cause Maya Angelou had a show during this time period on PBS or public Access TV and she was talking about Black history
Lovely show host, refreshingly natursl and wonderful poem . Ali his usual best.
Nikki G and Mr. Ali---Why can't TV be like this anymore? As if we don't know.
Thank you brother, I agree.
Because this generation loves the reality tv show bullshit.
@@adamsamuel8593 I think that they and we are TOLD that's what is loved---but who among us was ever ASKED what we want? The top-down, closed elite circle tells a lot about why "tv" is so tame and sterile.
37Dionysos that is what I think also ....what is television selling us and our children ,a first class ticket to hell bring back old school values, this is not good examples to children...or the woman.. it is wicked demonic teachings.. pray for those.. also those uncle toms they use to kill Malcom x ... together we stand divided we fall ..

Ali was great in this interview, but as a poet, Nikki Giovanni's piece at the end was everything for me!
I love this pround African King. so glad to have lived in his lifetime. Rest In Power KING.
This is just beautiful. Just to see all those beautiful black people….absolutely beautiful!!!!
Wow Black people are so beautiful. Nikki was totally under Ali’s spell💕
Thank you so much Nikki for your contribution also, Ali is the most important athlete of the 20th century in and out of the ring. You're the greatest Ali.
He may have been the most important American of the 20th century. He was certainly the most famous. The most recognizable person on earth at one point. And that was before the internet. He resurrected boxing. He brought mega-money to sports. He was unjustly denied his right to earn a living, stripped of his title. He came back and was even more relevant. He changed minds. He softened hearts. He met with kings. Walked in ghettos. Went to the White House and Africa. Starred on tv and movies. Spoke at colleges. He was a conservative man with a liberal message. He truly fought for freedom. People loved him all over the world and when he lost his ability to speak, was still able to bring people to tears when he lit the torch at the 1996 Olympics. We may never see anyone close to Ali again.
It turned out that you were the greatest AND the smartest. Rest in peace.
Two powerful Souls here on this great video and interview. Love Muhammad Ali and Nikki Giovanni
Awesome! See how fascinating and impactful powerful black people can be? We need take our heads out of the sand, get together and start the work of uniting our people for a better us!

I said> was the best phrase Muhammad Ali answer hhhhh.I really love this person.
This was a powerful interview! It's filled with loads of humor and intelligence.
Very respectful show and host, it seems we had more intellectual people with more substance to them in past then we have nowadays.
I'm from old Europe and Ali has been my inspiration as a human ever since I listen to him live at penne state in the late 60's. As for an athlete he was my hero ever since he became olympic champion in 1960, aged 18, in Rome, under the name of C. Clay. This interview brought tears to my eyes. Nikki Giovanni is beautiful, so full of sensitivity, nobility and intelligence ...
find it so fascinating , this man was way before my time. my dad told me about him as a boxer. but my word he is so much more than that, the man could talk about anything
Absolutely, As human being Ali was GREATER than he was as World boxing Champion.
3:30 this is why he is one of my heroes. He always stood up for something and was never afraid to say what he felt.
Indeed.
When black women looked natural and beautiful
No fake hair. Little to no makeup.
Yes.
We got tired of being called ugly and unattractive.
I was walking through my town, to the cinemas and saw a girl. Was wearing too much fake tan, makeup and just staring at herself in a pocket mirror. I looked at her with a disgusted look. She looked away with an arrogant look 😅
When I was a kid growing up in the 70s I didn't have a father, Ali was my hero rest in peace

Ali was a beautiful person in some many ways ... He was so ahead of his time....wow
Please all you whites are racist.
Damn I did not Nikki was this big back in the day. She's interviewing my idol Muhammad Ali!!!
Ali was not only the best in the ring, but he was just as brilliant in talk shows. I also enjoyed Nikki Giovanni's reading, what an intelligent, beautiful woman.
Nobody has his charm or charisma. I have such an immense amount of respect for Ali - we in England have always loved Ali, but now I’m older I really understand why. He was more than boxing.
Awesome all the way around!!! I saw actress Esther Rolle in the audience.
Love me some Ali, Nikki is a great personality. RIP Ali.
Damn! The interviewer’s accent is just phenomenal
I miss when the beautiful sisters with their majestic Afros roamed the earth with their beautiful souls, minds and bodies.
What beautiful poetry!!
Wow! Of course a young Mohamed Ali is off the scale. But Nikki so steals (unintentionally) the interview from the Greatest in such a respectful and amazing way. Loved this whole piece. Wow!
Muhammad Ali makes it so easy for us to understand. He is truth. I Love him the way I Love Jesus. I wish I could talk to him now. I want to know what he thinks of Obama. Love pores out of Ali. Ali is a Muslim. I am a white Christian man and I Love and respect everything about him. I have no doubt he would love me too.
