Honestly Ding doesn't need to start winning to make ppl believe him because everyone thinks he might lose his title so all he has to do is defend it. I mean, if he's burnt out from chess, he shouldn't try to win everything, he should just try to defend his title (else he'll certainly burn out). Ofc, maybe Ding wants to lose his title if he's really hoping to quit chess.

A “fast” classical game could be a compromise to a more marketable game while keeping the same quality and similar length of game seen previously with the 90 min format. Then, a transition to tie breaker rapid wouldn’t be such a huge jump in time controls

  • 27:35 Only an obnoxious person would obliviously crack his fingers into the microphone like that. So annoying. In the tranquil embrace of the forest, our family's annual camping trips were a sanctuary of laughter and warmth. But amidst the crackling fire and whispered secrets, an unwelcome intrusion shattered the serenity. My cousin, Mark, possessed a peculiar habit ‒ cracking his fingers with unabashed glee. Each snap echoed through the stillness, like sharp cracks in the delicate fabric of our peaceful night. With each pop, my skin prickled with discomfort, as if the very air recoiled at the intrusion. I mustered the courage to speak, pleading with Mark to cease his unsettling symphony. Yet, he dismissed my plea with a careless shrug, his laughter drowning out my unease. Oblivious to the disquiet he stirred, he continued, each crack intensifying my discomfort. As the years unfolded, the memory persisted like an unwelcome guest, refusing to fade into oblivion. The sound of cracking fingers haunted my thoughts, evoking a visceral reaction that I struggled to suppress. The memory became a shadow, a constant reminder of that unsettling night by the campfire. Though time has softened the edges of that memory, the discomfort lingers ‒ an echo of childhood aversion etched into the very core of my being. Reflecting on that discomfort now, I am compelled to make a heartfelt plea: let us be mindful of the sounds we create. For in our pursuit of personal joy, we may unknowingly inflict discomfort upon others. Let empathy guide our actions, sparing others from the echoes of discomfort that linger long after the sound fades.

  • The only reason ding became a world champ is because magnus didn't go to the tournament.

  • I agree about the knight fact you stated at the end of the video. Somehow the wording is very mysterious and spooky to me, "the black knight wanders over to that side and frequently gets lost in the position." Somehow the fact that Magnus can just... TELL that that's going to happen and the fact that it's so random yet so predictable is kind of spooky to me. I'm not explaining myself well.

  • If you plan to cover more games from Grenke, Arjun Erigeisi played an insane game in the open against a 12-year old kid that went on for 136 moves and the kid (rated hundreds of points lower than the world number 9!!) drew him! Because everyone else in the open was finished, we all just stood there, hundreds of people watching this game, and when they shook hands everyone applauded. It was something I've rarely experienced in a tournament. And a super crazy game at that.
