Abinadi Testifies of Jesus Christ | Mosiah 11-18

A Book of Mormon ruler named King Noah leads some of his people to rebel against God. The king replaces good priests with ones who do not keep the commandments of God. The people have to pay taxes to support the king and his priests.
The prophet Abinadi warns the people to repent. If they don’t repent, the Lamanites will take over their city and place them into captivity. King Noah and his priests are angry and try to kill Abinadi, but God protects him. Abinadi continues to deliver God’s message to them.
Abinadi says the law of Moses points to the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who will come into the world to redeem His people. Then Abinadi teaches them to keep the Ten Commandments and to look for salvation in Jesus Christ. One of the king’s priests, Alma, believes and defends Abinadi. This makes the king and his priests angrier, and Alma has to escape from the king’s guards.
The king orders Abinadi to be put to death by fire. Abinadi prophesies that King Noah will die in the same way Abinadi dies.
Alma escapes from the city and teaches in private. Many people believe Alma’s testimony and choose to repent and be baptized in the Waters of Mormon.
Based on Mosiah 11-18.

  • Abinadi's story is so inspirational, he is the epitome of having a foundation built on Christ. I often think about how the celestial kingdom will be filled with wonderful disciples like him. I pray that one day I may be able to be as righteous and worthy. But I am encouraged through my trials, that I just need to pay my dues just as these righteous disciples. So grateful for the gospel. also the scene of those being baptized instantly gave me nostalgia and beautiful memories of my mission.

  • As someone who knows what it is like to be lost, I am grateful to have been found. I knelt by a river and cried. I knew that Jesus was the Christ. I had received a witness by the power of the Holy Ghost. And yet, I felt lost. I prayed, sought help, cried, and had my prayers answered with a peace that God would help me, that He would find me. Well, in His own way, and because of someone who had the courage to share their beliefs, I have now tasted of the joy of the Gospel. Now, I was able to sit with my two oldest sons and watch a masterpiece, a beautiful witness of Christ. Thank you all who participated in this video. Thank you for choosing to do something good with your talents, something praiseworthy. And for those who find themselves wondering if this Church is true or if it is a fraud. Don't forget to pray. God answers prayers. I testify that just as God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Stephen in the New Testament, after whom I was named, He appeared on in our day. He restored His Church. Jesus is the Christ, and can heal and make holy any who come unto Him, even and especially sinners like you and me.

  • I have often thought of Samuel the Lamanite, and how he would surely have known about how Abinadi sealed his testimony with his blood. I wonder if, as he got up on the walls of the city to likewise testify to a wicked people, he felt he was about to follow in Abinadi's steps and also give his life for the word he was instructed to deliver. If so, imagine his great surprise when none of the rocks or arrows hit him and he witnessed an incredible miracle and was allowed to live! Every time I think about my own life I wonder if I have the faith of Abinadi, who knew he would die, or Samuel, who thought he knew he would also die, *to boldly proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.*

On the days I participated, we were on the Goshen, Utah set from about 3pm-3am (Abinidi teaching in the street and running through another street) and on a soundstage at the LDS MPS in Provo, Utah (King Noah anointing his new priests and receiving the prisoner Abinidi).

I crossed in front of Abinidi as he was being taken away from teaching the crowd which, again was cut. And, technically, I was on the upper level (facing King Noah on the right side by the second seat), but I was cut from that, too. Therefore, Alma must have been INCREDIBLY brave to stand before the king and try to defend Abinidi knowing that doing so could assure his death. • I think that we as members of God’s church need Abinadi’s words more than ever. President Nelson has been pleading with our people to repent ever since he was anointed as prophet. In the March 2020 Earthquake in SLC, the horn of the angel Moroni broke off. I think this is the type of biblical sign described in Amos 3:14. Either way, we really do need to have a daily focus on repentance. Time is running out.

"and all those who gave their lives for my name will be crowned" said the lord. I pray that the Lord bless everyone who will watch this video.

  • It is because of those who bear their testimony like Abinadi and Alma that remind me of my purpose in life through Heavenly Father… and can be made possible through the atonement of Jesus Christ. To come into the fold of God, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times, and in all things, and in all places! I strive to be confident in the presence of God like Abinadi was depicted here. As well as Alma. What a beautiful portrayal of faith!

  • This is so powerful; because it is true. How was Noah and his priests to know if Abinadi spoke the truth? Was the pleasure they were having the way to go in life? Or was there actually a God, and his son Jesus Christ who would come down to earth, and ultimately suffer for our sins to save us from death and from the consequences of sin through his atonement? How could they know whether all Abinadi preached was true? And how are we to know if it is true? The way to know is that God will pour out his spirit into the heart of any who are open and truly desire to know. The witness of the truth comes to the heart so powerfully that one cannot deny. I have felt that power in my heart. I know it is true. Then, like Helam and the others, I desired to make a covenant with God through baptism. So, by one having authority I have been baptized and received the gift of the holy ghost. And now for that, what great cause do I have to rejoice, even as the video portrays the joy that those who were baptized felt. It is real. All can come unto Christ, and be baptized by immersion by one with authority, and become one of Jesus Christ's fold.

  • I love Abinadi! I love that in this movie he is portrayed as a young man! He might have been my age. I imagine some of his loved ones saw his execution. I have a novel based on his story. In it he isn't that much older than me. I'm 23 years old he's four years older when he dies. He's actually related to one of the evil priests ( unknown to his father in law). The nobleman's daughter had long been in love with him. Gideon who is killed in his old age by Nehor was one of King Zeniff's priests. He was their leader. Abinadi was a member of their religion. They called themselves elders. Gideon had a village in the desert that was hidden most people didn't know where it was. Raquel knew she was missing something. And she was secretly in love with Abinadi. Helam who is Alma's first baptism is the prophet's brother. Raquel is Amulon's only child. She snuck out of her house one evening after her parents were asleep, grabbed some herbs so she could tend to his injuries, and ran to his house to learn about the gospel. She felt the Spirit of the Lord and wanted to leave with him in the morning. She didn't want to go back home. But she did go back without her parents even knowing she had been gone. The next morning she was to marry the king. When he proposed that's when she ran away from home. She was betrothed the day her future husband was called as a prophet. They married a month after his return and when the Lord commanded him to return they had a one year old boy. He left her and the baby in the care of his mom and brother. The city was a dangerous place for his wife because there was an order for her head. The king was angry with her for turning him down. But she ran away from home with her baby and his uncle to try to rescue her beloved from the king. Her mom fell in love with the baby but her dad's heart refused to be softened. She was in the crowd with Helam and when she saw her husband she ran out and flung herself onto him. But Noah's guards pulled her off. That's when she pled with her dad to spare his life. She told him about her son. After his death she, her mom and Helam had a small funeral and her mom abandoned her husband and followed her daughter back to Gideon's village. They were later baptized in the Waters of Mormon.

  • 11 And now when the people had heard these words, they clapped their hands for joy, and exclaimed: This is the desire of our hearts. 12 And now it came to pass that Alma took Helam, he being one of the first, and went and stood forth in the water, and cried, saying: O Lord, pour out thy Spirit upon thy servant, that he may do this work with holiness of heart. 13 And when he had said these words, the Spirit of the Lord was upon him, and he said: Helam, I baptize thee, having authority from the Almighty God, as a testimony that ye have entered into a covenant to serve him until you are dead as to the mortal body; and may the Spirit of the Lord be poured out upon you; and may he grant unto you eternal life, through the redemption of Christ, whom he has prepared from the foundation of the world. 14 And after Alma had said these words, both Alma and Helam were buried in the water; and they arose and came forth out of the water rejoicing, being filled with the Spirit. 15 And again, Alma took another, and went forth a second time into the water, and baptized him according to the first, only he did not bury himself again in the water. 16 And after this manner he did baptize every one that went forth to the place of Mormon; and they were in number about two hundred and four souls; yea, and they were baptized in the waters of Mormon, and were filled with the grace of God

  • This powerful video teaches many things regarding the dealings of God with his people. He allows his servants to suffer so that the judgements that come upon the wicked with be just. He also requires those who serve him to be willing to sacrifice everything, even their very lives if needed to declare and defend the truth. They become like Jesus himself and receive great rewards in heaven for their faithfulness. There are many in our day that will one day be required to suffer a similar fate as the persecutions are poured out upon the Saints. I pray that we will be faithful and endure those atrocities with the faith and determination shown here by Abinadi.

I know that Abinadi truely did testify of Christ, that He is, that He will come to the earth as a sacrifice for us, and that He loves us. This video is a powerful reminder that it is the simple things that count. It is through remembering Christ our Savior and following Him that we can be saved and become happy.

I like the phrase, "the Time Will Come When All People shall see The salvation of The Lord" are we not at this time with the coronavirus, especially with the majority of the peoples of the world having the carpet pulled from under their feet. Being stopped in their tracks? bringing them to a sense of reality & many turning to Christ in repentance? I believe so & we will yet see many now return & turn to Christ. in the very near future. as President Nelson has said after the General Conference we will fully focus on the Full Restoration of the Kingdom of God. And if ye slay me ye will shed innocent blood, and this shall also stand as a testimony against you at the last day. 11 And now king Noah was about to release him, for he feared his word; for he feared that the judgments of God would come upon him. 12 But the priests lifted up their voices against him, and began to accuse him, saying: He has reviled the king. Therefore the king was stirred up in anger against him, and he delivered him up that he might be slain.
