  • Mamamoo was the first group to debut from their company RBW, they built that small company up with their talent. They are the Queen’s of RBW and the reason why the company is famous for vocally talented idols and trainees. Because of Mamamoo, when the RBW company name popped up for Produce shows, like Produce 48, the first thing that came to the other trainees and the Teacher’s minds was “Vocal talents have joined us.”

    • I agree with you, I was really surprised when she said it. I'm a singer too and nothing about the note seemed off to me. I've gone back and listened to it over and over again and even when I'm looking out for a flaw I still cant hear one, I might be wrong but I really can't hear anything wrong in that note and normally with an off note I feel it viscerally like nails down chalkboard. I feel like if she had explained why the note was off and then sung how she would have done it it would have felt more like useful and interesting constructive feedback and commentary, rather than a flat, kind of rude dismissal. I've never seen this channel before and it didn't leave me with a great first impression at all. I don't expect or want reactors to lie and say they like something when they don't, but she came across as quite arrogant, lacking in humility and tact.

    • @@tracisr :) I agree, I definitely don't think it was intentionally sarky or hateful, just came out badly (and hey, I do that all the time, lol). I left a comment asking, seems like it is more a personal preference. This is their reply :) "Agreed! Maybe next time I film Ceecee she’ll explain but funny enough Albert wasn’t fond of the note either if you check his reaction. It’s not my favourite either, I think it’s the slide and the notes she reaches does not sound in tune with the horns. It’s hard to describe but compared to the “I feel good” or “I miss you” belts, there’s a difference for sure since they’re quickly on pitch as oppposed to that glissando which felt slightly slower and can sound flat since they took a bit longer to reach the end goal note. Could all be subjective too. Hope that helps"

  • Yes, they're great friends and have several songs about their unity, which is expressed in the fandom motto Never Letting Go. They believe they were fated to be best friends even if they weren't singers or in a group together. The youngest members Wheein & Hwasa have been bff since middle school and the older members Solar & Moonbyul are almost inseparable. I think you're correct about team chemistry - imo it's the secret sauce that takes MMM's talent to the next level. Mamamoo was the first group to debut under a startup label called Rainbowbridge World (RBW). With little money, staff or resources the girls had to do a lot of things by themselves and they were called "self-sown idols" in Korea because from the beginning they were involved in all creative aspects of their career including songwriting, choreography, styling and MV concepts. Though they're not as famous globally their story is similar to BTS in many respects. Though they're primarily performers the members have dozens of songwriting credits as lyricists and composers with Moonbyul having the most since she writes all of her rap verses. They've co-written some of their biggest hits and written several songs for their fans (esp Solar) and they often write their own solo songs. Each member has a successful solo career on the side - Mamamoo was the first kpop group to have all members chart on Billboard as solo artists while the group was still active as a unit.

  • Mamamoo's slower songs tend to fit into the cafe vibe that Micah dislikes 😘 or fit into the OST sound that tends to be frowned upon. They could do 3-4 more Killing Voice medleys with different themes(Japanese tracks, CFs, OSTs, etc) tbh. I'm hoping Dingo brings them back for at least a banger b-side medley. We need some love for Baton Touch, Midnight Summer Dream, My Star, Destiny, and like a million other song. Also, they didn't sing Woohoo or Gleam and those are bops. The best part about Mamamoo is that they could all do solo Killing Voice performances and those would be equally as iconic. I need to hear Moonbyul sing the acoustic version of Love & Hate live! Everyone knows that Wheein and Hwasa were school friends but it's worth noting that Wheein and Moonbyul have a prior connection. They met at another company and would have probably debuted together. Solar is really the outlier in the group. She had actually decided to stop pursuing music if the audition at RBW wasn't successful and become a flight attendant(Solar has the certification for it!). It's ridiculous how many female idols were going to be flight attendants if music didn't work out! 😂

    @ReapTheWhirlwind@ReapTheWhirlwind2 жыл бұрын
    • To add to the above, Moonbyul said she would have been a police officer, Wheein said she would have been a photographer or artist like her mother, and Hwasa said she would be unemployed if she wasn't a singer.

      @anonygent@anonygent2 жыл бұрын
  • Something to remember: "lead" in kpop parlance is _second_ to "main", and not to be confused with "the group leader"; in this group, Solar is both leader AND main vocal. The "main" gets the biggest, flashiest parts (high notes, adlibs, solo dance break, etc.), a "lead" will have smaller solos, adlibs, or form a "line" with main plus other leads (if any, depends on size of group). Wheein and Hwasa are leads in Mamamoo, but could be mains elsewhere if matched with lesser talent. Even Moonbyul, the rapper, could hold her own as a lead vocalist elsewhere at the very least...she's got talent and skill, but she needs more practice to be a true main vocal, her power and endurance are a trifle low.

    @xheralt@xheralt2 жыл бұрын
    • Yes I am aware of the differences indeed. I just wanted it to be clear that although she happens to be the leader and a main vocal, the other two leads are pretty strong and on equal footing as opposed to other main vocalists in other groups where the difference is much clearer.

      @Koko3op@Koko3op2 жыл бұрын
    • Mamamoo don’t have main/lead positions though.

      @Sofie765@Sofie7652 жыл бұрын

      @saltyrice821@saltyrice8212 жыл бұрын
    • That's kind of interesting, because Moonbyul was a vocalist first and then was encouraged to go down the rap route later. Her vocal range is much lower though, but I think that's a strength and not a weakness.

      @MykkiOnTheCusp@MykkiOnTheCusp2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Sofie765 Yepp, only their rap line has official positions. But I think they mean what the netizens think. Solar and Wheein are slotted as main vocals and Hwasa as lead vocal by non-fans, from the "ranking" videos I've seen.

  • A lot of their songs were fully or partially written by MoonByul, she's the 2nd most credited female idol in the kpop industry of ALL TIME (they're called KOMCA credits), she also used to choreograph most of their early stages and the girl can also sing (you can check out her cover of 'Trying to Say Goodbye' if you want to listen to her belting range). This reaction was really good, she really appreciated the group as a whole and not only their musicality, but their friendship and cuteness 🥰, also my girl Moonbyul received the appreciation she deserves but sometimes reactors forget to give enough of! And of course, Hwasa remains someone noticed by all reactors in your channel, and how could you not ❤, she's a queen with a soulfoul voice, she's gotten her fame as a soloist as well for a reason. • They don't really speak English, though I think Solar's learning. They did do an interview on the Zach Sang show in the US (minus Wheein IIRC), so _maybe_ you saw that..? 3:15 Not to make excuses for her, but I think _part_ of the reason the note kinda missed is that that's not _normally_ how the song ends; she usually goes into a full jazzy flourish ending, but she cut it short to go into the next song, and she may not have thought through exactly how she was going to do that... 🤔 5:53 "It's my shining night..." That was a pun. The Korean title of Starry Night is a literal translation: Star (Byul-i) Lit/shining (bich-na-neun) Night (bam). Except her _name_ is Byul-i, so it's also Byuli's Shining Night, so... look, just roll with it, okay? 😜 6:05 They really _are_ best mates. As others have said, Wheein and Hwasa were at school together, and actually moved to Seoul together, auditioned together, and eventually debuted together. Solar and Moonbyul don't have the childhood connection, but they're basically inseparable, too. If you check out Solar's own KZhead channel Solarsido (where she spends most of her time trying new things at the suggestion of her subscribers, aka Yong-wangs), a good chunk of the time you'll also find Byul there as her partner-in-crime (invariably referred to as "Colleague 1" 😂). And then even _since_ debut, they've been together for over seven years now, and developed an unshakable bond between the four of them. A couple of their recent songs (especially Destiny) have explored the idea that they're destined to be together, and even if they hadn't become Mamamoo, they feel like they'd still have found each other one way or another. 7:50 With the exception of Solar, they _all_ have tattoos, but Wheein most prominently so (12 at last count), and several friendship tattoos shared with others (including Hwasa). And they don't write _all_ their own music, but as time has gone on, they've all taken the role on more and more. I don't remember the specific stat, but Byul in particular has a _huge_ tally of lyric credits to her name. 9:15 _This_ song. They performed a version on Queendom dedicated to their fans, MooMoos, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house... 11:00 Quick note: _Hwasa was ill_ when they did this... 😏 11:35 Now you see why MooMoos _really_ love 'em. They're _unashamedly_ daft. 🤣

These girls made it from the bottom to the top because of their talent, passion and special personalities. They are not a typical K-Pop group. Musically they have a wide discography, starting with jazzy, retro and r&b produced by successful korean musicians and producers, startet in a small company. Always with a bit of fun, their special magic comes when they perform in front of an audience and heat up the atmosphere with their voices. Between them and their fans called 'Moomoo' it's a bit of a soul connection, but especially between them. Don't miss this rare chance to see them. They come for the first time. ;) ps: Musically, I can recommend going deeper into the 4 season 4 color series. It is holistic in concept and a nice idea. Kick-off with the song 'Paint me' With good headphones it gives me always shivers ;)

Normally I feel off notes like I would feel nails down a chalkboard but Solar's note didn't strike me as flat or sharp, and to my ear it sounded good and fit with the song. Is this a matter of preference, did you just not like the choice of note, or was there actually something wrong with that note? If you were to sing that song, how would you have sung it? Constructive, detailed feedback and criticism is much more interesting (and tactful) than a straight up dismissal of "its wrong" with no explanation or reasoning. :)

I have recently fallen in love with two jazz violinists Menuhin and Gappelli, they do duets together, one playing from a music score, and the other improvising. The music is unpredictable and playful and romantic and there is this kind of boundless energy, joy and youth to it that I can't get enough of. But it has those moments where some people could see "flaws" and "mistakes" because it is so atypical, but those moments have such incredible character and are part of what makes it so beautiful.

    @churailmukhi@churailmukhi2 жыл бұрын
    • Honestly sometimes I do get SLIGHTLY worried for her as well. A lot of other idols strain their voices when they sing too. But when I look at things on the flip side, the fact that she has still been able to sing for so long shows the immense care and effort she puts in to keep herself healthy.

  • To be honest, although i only listen to Mamamoo and Blackpink- generally the members in ALL kpop group are all talented in their own ways. Even the visuals got into the group because the have some semblance of ability. You don't get to debut after training for 3-7 years (or more) without gaining sound ability. I think this is why i feel kpop is such an interesting genre. You may think they are artificially put together or created but the process of putting them together involves a lot of hard work, training, sweat , tears and blood. And in that process only the best of the best get to debut. U can look up a random unknown small kpop group and still find talented members in the group. edit: I also feel the need to highlight whether the artist are song writers or not are quite irrelevant in kpop, because each kpop members are picked for their strengths be it dancing, singing, rapping, song writing, etc. Unlike the west where song writing credit seem to be all important, to me in kpop i think its just another cogs in the production. K-pop is so good at leveraging talents in the right area to come up with an absolute banger of a finished product which makes more sense actually... why force yourself to write if someone else write better, etc.

    • No it’s not. I’m not Wikipedia and I’m not sure why you expected that of me. I do a pretty good job but I can’t answer EVERYTHING out EVERY group on my channel, are you okay? Also sometimes it’s better for the actual fandoms to answer and engage with the reactor. If I answered everything it’s be boring wouldn’t you think?

      @Koko3op@Koko3op2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Koko3op I personally appreciate content creators who actually do a bit of a research and not depend on fans to answer everything for them. It's painful to hear "i don't know" so many times. Better to just not talk to the reactor.

      @graceababan@graceababan2 жыл бұрын
    • Then go and enjoy other channels who know every fact about every artist then and also, I’m also just recently discovering some of these groups myself and learning with my reactors also as I react on this channel and I’m not going to speak on things I don’t know so that I’m harassed by rabid fans in the comments if I get someone’s age wrong. Im not going to pause the reaction whilst scrolling for information either as it ruins the flow and adds gaps which people also dislike. KZhead is not a walk in a park, you can’t please everyone.

      @Koko3op@Koko3op2 жыл бұрын
    • Not everyone has an encyclopedia's worth of knowledge about these groups. Part of this channel is watching and listening to different groups and artists as a way to learn about music you hadn't previously listened to. What's really off is the tone of this comment. You could've came with constructive criticism stating something like "it'd be nice if you could do a little primer with the reactor at the start of the video with general info on the group " vs what you came with. Maybe taking a breath, clicking the back button to be on your way might better serve you. 🤷🏿‍♀️

There's another comment here saying the complete episode that "there was no reaction/talking or critique in the first 5 minutes" LOL so people really do take things in seperately.
