In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.
I met Alex Horne in London and asked for a photo but he held me upside down and shook all the change out of my pocket, picked it up and ran into a greggs

For those not in the UK what's a Greg's? We hear it in comedy routines all the time.. is it a bottle shop? coffee shop? discount store?
When they clearly and repeatedly state a rule in the studio, then Alex says "Shall we see..." you know you're in for a good one.
Best part of every episode. Always kills me like it was the first time.

@@unicornsarereal4254 Since this came up in my reply notices, I just wanted to say that I am American (Arkansas) and this is my favorite show of any kind ever. I've never laughed so much at ANY other show. Favorite season is the Rhod Gilbert/Phil Wang season. Can't actually remember what number that was, but I almost blacked out from laughing a couple of times on that series.👍👍👍✌✌✌
Hugh Dennis getting the win after everyone else got disqualified was easy the most unexpected win in Taskmaster history.
I don’t what’s more intimidating, him questioning the Taskmaster about everyone following the rules or Henning Wehn asking literally anything on Would I Lie To You
Hugh seemed a bit peeved that people didn’t follow the constrictions on the task: commentating. Commentating is hard. It involves a lot of mental work... And pointing it out to have Greg ignore it as disqualifying criteria maddened even me. A viewer. Done to wind up Hugh. But then the chocolate came to the rescue!
@@redelfshotthefood8213 Greg probably didn't make a big deal about the lack of commentary because everyone had been disqualified anyway.
@@redelfshotthefood8213 I mean, it was only Joe Lycett he was annoyed about, and Joe was using his mouth for most of the task.
They technically weren't disqualified, they just lost 5 points. So Joe basically would have gained 5 points for the win but then lost 5 resulting in 0. Whoever got 1 point would have ended up on -4.
When I think of my favorite Taskmaster edits I always forget “without moving the fishbowls.”
A classic TM tactic: overload the contestants and watch the disasters. Time pressure and complications do make a great pressure cooker. Brilliant.
The edit on that clip is absolutely genius
They did a similar edit for Mawaan in the dinghy task.
My favorite other edits are- -in “Throw a tea bag from the Furthest Distance,” Frank narrating followed by Romesh with similar yet drastically different narration -in “Strike an Object the Furthest,” with Noel solving his and Hugh’s problem -Just cutting to Nish reacting to something he thinks is brilliant

my favorite thing about that last "look under the tale" task is that in the most recent series, the look under the table bit is so famous, a contestant did it nearly every time. to the point of, for the final task, they put a fake task under the table that just said "hello Sarah".
I gotta find this now!
Jon saying "A pointless feature" when pressing the button is possible my favorite taskmaster moment of all time. He just cracks me up so much.
Me too, I love the whole piece with him saying 'do you know what that means?" [dabajo de la mesa] and then only figuring it out in the studio!

The best part of the last task was Jon saying he thought 'Under the table' was just the name of the boat
I would contend that Joe only ate the chocolate once Alex had blown the whistle and therefore the task was over and the rules no longer applied.
He was disqualified before that due to not commentating in 3rd person, so it's a moot point.

the "bite chocolate and get punished" task was Cruel and funny
Best part is, that they could have just take it, without eating it and it would be fine.
I still love the shock on Katherine and Richard’s face when Jon explains on what “Debajo de la mesa” means.
Were they allowed phones? Jon could have googled it, if so. If I asked if Alex if he knew what something meant and he said Yes, but didn't tell me, I would immediately have reasoned it was important.
@@georgielancaster1356Jon did Spanish in college, he wouldn't have needed to Google it. He knew what it meant, he just thought it was another "pointless feature" like the button 😂 he was asking Alex to show off that he knew, not as a genuine question 😄
@@SundaraRamanRhe didn’t know. At 12:09, he even pronounces the word for below, ‘debajo’, as “debacko”. Pretty poor considering his qualification yet we learn this at GCSE. Proof a university education isn’t everything 😂
@@Nushka23 There's so much wrong with this! 1. He did know - he specifically stated the translation in the studio before it was revealed. 2. You can know what a word means without pronouncing it properly. 3. "Debacko" is incredibly close to the correct pronunciation, is how I (and I'd wager most native English speakers) pronounce it, and it has never not been understood when I've said it.
@@callum9999 there’s so much wrong with this! 1. He knew only after thinking about it a long time later. He did not know immediately upon reading it, or else he would have looked under the table. Basically - he did not translate it, or attempt to. 2. Did I say otherwise? 3. You do not pronounce debajo as debacko.
"You know my eyesight is affected around bridges". Doc was such a good contestant. So sad he didn't enjoy his time on it even though he was brilliant.

I think their should be like a supplementary episode after every series, where Alex explains all the missed work arounds for tasks that the contestants missed. There's always some tasks where you know their must be a work around that everyone misses. The portcullis/dart task in series 12 comes to mind. Those ducks on the back of the portcullis haunt me. haha
The podcast is pretty good for that stuff
Half the joy is coming up with the workarounds yourself.
No-one ever points out the BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE right next to Mike as he tries to fart. A fizzy liquid that would’ve helped him.

I love the fact that not only was there a sign under the table that lit up when it's button was pressed, revealing to check under the table, but that there was just a regular little sign saying the same thing that was just over the door, so the contestants wouldn't think to check there. this show can be a bit lawful evil at times, and I love it for that.

Something I'd never noticed before is the "amlen agored" sign in Mike's task. You'd think with the picture it means no smoking, but it's actually Welsh for open envelope. Coupled with the Welsh writing in Desiree & Al's extra task, I'd guess that one of the Taskmaster crew is fluent in Welsh! The little details in this show are incredible
No idea if he speaks it or not, but I’m pretty sure Greg is Welsh

Same! If I'm feeling down, I put on Taskmaster on and it cheers me up without fail. Especially Season 5, but any season really.

@@frantisekcvrkal2401one could notice actually. Him and Jon were both at times quite hostile and toxic, which has ruined a lot of potentially positive or good moments in that Series. Absolutely loved Richard and Joe though.

Hugh was so unfairly treated in this season, he was the best in a load of tasks but because he was given the label as 'shit' he was marked down
Tbf, he does not only pay to be given pictures of the sky but brought that in as a prize task offering.
I agree, I thought his treatment was really unfair.
After so many years, I still laugh so much at that bridge task. It immediately became a classic.
That task was my introduction to Taskmaster.
After so many years I only today realised that the 'under the table' sign only helps........if you are already looking under the table.

I feel like they've laid off the hidden rules thing (probably because contestants were getting too canny), but I really hope they bring them back, I love those. A great also-ran in this category is the Morse code balloons from series 3, thought that was one of the best tasks.
You say that but then we wouldn't have gotten the hysterics of Mawaan being KEENLY aware of "the secret rules" and seriously considered the merits of lifting a telephone box.
I’m fine with the secret workarounds like the “under the table” thing, but I don’t like the secret rules like not eating chocolate because it feels a bit more unfair.
Joe should have contested the 5 points ducking ! Alex already had blowed his wistle before he ate the chocolate.
It says if you eat any of the chocolate - not only for the duration of the task.

I got into this show last year. It helped me through my bout with covid. The sunshine in the midst of the crappy time in my life. I am so thankful for it. I loved Mel, Noel, and Hugh in their season. Brilliant!

Upon seeing the card in the outro I (obviously) tried to subscribe instantly. Only to find that I was already subscribed to this channel. The multiple seconds of sheer panic that ensued, trying to figure out whether a quick unsubscribe would anger Mr Davies, leads me to believe I've had enough Taskmaster for tonight..
Joe did finish the task before having the chocolate so for all intents and purpose, the task was finished so the rules shouldn't apply.
But he didn't narrate, so you could say that it equaled out karmically, right?

10:23 This task, for us audience, is like the gorilla test in that the sign over the door is visible for us as well yet I didn't see it till I rewinded the video of the task again.
I didn’t truly appreciate how, in the Series 2 bridge task, Katherine remembers that triangles are the strongest shape, & then proceeds to build two pyramids & connect them with a flimsy twine & nothing else.
The bridge/under the table task was the one that got me hooked on the show 🤣👏
And then in Series 12 when they bring that table back Morgana immediately looks under the table.

A random thought: i feel like the fishbowl task was one of the only two in the whole of taskmaster where being small was an advantage, as you could probably fit both hands in and just scoop
@@tulejumal i think it's series 8 but yeah, there's probably a couple more, like the hiding task in s4. Still, there are dozens of physical tasks that are easier if you're big, tall, and strong, and only a few that actively favour someone who's short, small, or limber, for example. I mean, both alex and tim key are big dudes and im sure there's an unconscious moment of mentally testing on themselves when they're coming up with physical challenges. But i'd love to see an obstacle course task that's something like climbing and crawling through stuff. And i'd especially love to see alex and greg do that xD

I don't think giving out individual tasks counts as "fooling" the contestants. The contestants don't know if any particular task they are asked to do is legitimate or not, and so they have to treat every task as real, because if they didn't, it would be even worse.
I would've gone right for the bread. Can't comment on the chocolate as I am more of a savoury person but I'm shocked at the lack of interest in the bread.
i wonder if they ever thought of cupping their hands, maybe a bit slow but if you know the technique it's quite easy

I still don't get how technically you've finished the task. As in time stops (in later series mostly)... Or Alex asks, 'is it done then or have you finished then'? Then you get docked points later - as in, Lee Mack finally didn't get hit when plates dropped after the task. But glad the series learned in the end at least!
