As you know, I own a Trabant 601S from 1984 here in the state of Ohio. It is my project/dream car. Since I made the video, I had someone from Germany mention a fuel leak that I have been chasing since her new engine was put in. I have since received a new carburetor, fuel hose as well as other new parts, with much thanks to my great friend in Germany. I plan to install them here soon but for now, here is a short drive. I will make a video about how I acquired this vehicle because that itself is one story that I hope will not only inspire you but also bring smiles to all. I hope to have that video released by the end of next week. The weather here can be crazy but I'll manage.

    • Indeed they are, especially here in Ohio where no one really knows what the heck they are looking at.

    • @@McElroysMotors I owned one about 15 years ago - drove it about 80 miles home after picking it up, and about halfway along the trip I passed a busload of German tourists. You should've seen the surprise on their faces!

    • It's unfortunate that they discontinued them after the unification of Germany because their engines did not meet enviromental standards.

  • Your Trabant has a Hungarian license plate number? You should find one from the former GDR (German Democratic Republic).

    • @@McElroysMotors People associate the Trabant 601 with German reunification. The vehicle was also produced in Germany. So why would you drive around in the USA with a Hungarian license plate?

    • @@f.p.1308 The car was sold new in Budapest. I do it to show my respect to the guy who I bought it off of in 2018. He waited 6 years for his.

    • @@McElroysMotorsThat's the right thing to do, why would you fake the history by putting a license plate on it which it never had?
