    • @@manymoms920 No its pronounced jail.I think its that most people only know the american english spelling now so thats why people are confused. Originally it probably was spelt that way in colonial america aswell, but there was a move to make american english more phonetic so you have color rather than colour ,labor rather than labour and many others.Jail has travelled back over the pond ,but the old spelling is still used as jim above said in official documents

  • I'm from cork and during the Covid lockdown you could only venture to places within the county. County Cork is huge and I'd imagine that if you're travelling from the tip of east cork to west cork it's probably a 3 hour drive! Well some of the beaches we have in Cork are insane. From Red Barn to inchydoney and Barley Cove, we are absolutely spoilt for choice. I absolutely love this place we call home!!

  • This effort on your part may just save my life AND the life of my retirement. I married Irish and into one of the best families I've ever known. However, I despise "Irish food". It's the grossest, nastiest, tasteless thing I've ever experienced. Horrifying. I also hate the weather so, the thought of living here after retiring? Not even half the year in Spain could save me from deep depression! However and oh, so incredibly grateful to you and your video, I see vast hope, an awakening and awareness I didn't have. Thank you and thank GOD for Cork! Cork is exactly where I need to buy a house and actually have family friends with GREAT FOOD! Still living in Málaga half the year but, Ireland and the scenic, gorgeous, cullinary wonder of Cork has truly, truly made a new hope and a new home for me. It won't be Florida but, it will be safety, security, excellent people and many things I recognize and value. Thank you! I feared Galway and oooow..Dublin! Now, I don't!!

  • Thanks for doing this video. It annoys Cork people that the majority of tours of Ireland leave out Cork city and county. Yet it has so much to offer as you say. Cobh and Kinsale are beautiful towns also with loads of history. Before heading for Kerry, check out some of Corks beaches. Another thing is to begin the wild Atlantic way in Kinsale, and get to the ring of Kerry on the coastal route. If you take the main road, stop in Baile Mhuirne. Still a Gaeltacht area, where Irish or Gaeilge is the first language of the area. If you can, an overnight here is worthwhile. A place with a strong tradition of music, singing and storytelling. The famous Iarla O Lionard comes from this area. ( Solo unaccompanied singer in the movie Brooklyn. )

    • Yes, I would even go so far as to say, forget about Kerry, even though I have spent a significant part of my life there... Kerry has unfortunately become cheap tourism for the masses, and is very difficult to get around if you don't drive on the left ;) ... As a Corkonian, I advise heading East of Cork for more plentiful Beaches, without the shoals of Jelly Fish, that you will find washing in from the Atlantic in Kerry. A lot more history & culture in the East, due to it facing Europe. Castles, Vikings, Kings, Queens, religious history, cultural history, you name it.. Not to say that some of these things exist in Kerry, but they are definitely more plentiful and easier accessible in the East.

We are all black people, and no matter who we have children with, we're all extremely light skin and look like white people but with black features (hair, lips nose). My grandfather traced us back to the 1780s, he was "born free". Somewhere about 40 years later, a man "from the county cork Ireland" entered the picture. We were wealthy blacks for centuries (I'm broke tho), do we have pictures of our great ×4/5 grandparents dating back to the 1840s, they're black you can tell, but light skin. All throughout the 1800s we have tons of photos, they married dark people, had light kids. All from this single ancestor from Co. Cork. My father is as little darker than Ice Cube, I sunburn like no other, freckles, and green eyes. I have his crazy nappy hair though, my husband cuts dreadlocks out of my hair because they form so quickly. It's so bizarre! #UltraCaucasion

  • Just a suggestion, rent a car and drive some length of the coast (assuming sunny weather). The coast is really satisfying to drive since one of the best things about Ireland is the terrain, plus there's loads of little coastal villages with with churches, old manor houses etc in them (and usually nice restaurants). On the way if you google ahead of time there's tons of broken down castles, old structures (some being neolithic, some Google will be required). Definitely worth a day of travelling, try to limit yourself to a specific county (Irish roads are not straight, are very curved) and Google ahead of time if the area has data/phone reception (very rural parts of Ireland will not, once you have a save of the area on Google maps you should be fine, if in doubt ask a local if you're in a village).

  • These vidz are OK if you have zero sense of adventure and little imagination, but this is just another example of sticking to the same old "U.S Does Ireland Trail" and coming away from a county having experienced very little of what makes it special. I'm from Cork. Cork is Ireland's largest county and offers beautiful coastal routes along the Wild Atlantic Way, incredibly lush green countryside in the interior that is considered some of the most fertile land in Europe, mountains, forestry and forest trails, walking and cycling trails across the county, and so much more. The majority of Cork people who view this vid will almost certainly scratch their heads at the lack of a mention of anything regarding West Cork which is famous throughout Ireland and where many Irish people will travel to while in Cork. Visit Baltimore, Glengarriff, The Healy Pass and the Caha Pass in West Cork if you do nothing else as they're all to be found within half an hour's drive of each other on the Beara Peninsula. Check out Schull, Allihies, Mizen Head, Clonakilty also if you have a bit more time to do so. I've been fortunate to live in and travel through many countries across the globe and learned that the best thing you can do is ditch the guide book - Lonely Planet books are pretty crap in reality as it's one writer's interpretation of a place you're reading about and generally not representative of an authentic experience. Irish people in general are friendly and inquisitive and will happily suggest places you might enjoy so speak to the locals - go into a pub for a pint of Murphys, or Beamish. Just bare in mind that the overwhelming majority of Irish people have little interest in spending time in Dublin, because quite simply it's a shithole - an historic shithole, but a total shithole nonetheless...spend a maximum of 2 days there and get out and explore the island for yourself. Talk to the Irish about the country's history or the weather when you're in a pub and you'll have no shortage of people wanting to converse with you about the English or the rain. Enjoy your travels in Ireland.

    • Try Sheila's Hostel, or one of the 4 or 5 Self - Catering places in the same row of big old houses on Wellington Rd. (Specifically Wellington Terrace)... I don't know how 'spendy' you want to go, none of these places are gonna look like they belong in an Agatha Christie (Hercule Poirot) movie, but the place my (late) wife and myself stayed in a few years back (I don't have the _specific_ address any more I'm afraid, sorry!) was cheap, cheerful... and *clean.* Being a front facing apartment, it had _great_ views out over the city. Wellington Terrace is half - way between the train station and the main drag, and 10 minutes _tops_ from both. *'Health Warnings':* These accomodations are probably not for you if you have impaired mobility. I'd say _definitely_ not, if you're in a wheelchair! The buildings are old. Not shabby or anything, but, yeah, *old!* The Terrace is on a steep~ish hillside (tbh, the city, generally, is famous/infamous for its many hills) and the last couple of yards up to the door require negotiating a short series of stairs. All that said though, I'm an above - the - knee amputee, (and _definitely_ not the kind that does pentathlons and alla _that_ crap!) but I don't remember it being an especial hassle on our visit. Can't have hurt that the wife was there to help me though!! Finally, this comment is neither an ad, nor a 'plug' for _anyplace._ Simply answering the question that was put, nothing more; and it's getting on for 10 years since I was down there, and things change all the time. Think of my comments as a jumping off point, _not_ the last word. ps This neighbourhood generally has a fair few accomodations options from the fairly posh to the more budget orientated even if in general this means more 'oriented towards _their_ budget', (think 'The Royal Victoria Windsor Hotel' in National Lampoon's European Vacation) - _NOT_ yours, lol!

I was in Slovakia last weekend, without knowing anyone.. made a friend there and he was kind enough to show me around everywhere and his mother cooked me some very delicious Slovakian food. So if I don't find anything, I'm just going to wing it and hopefully meet kind Irish folks who are willing to give me a space to sleep for the night.
