  • As a retired psychotherapist Im am appalled at the abusive, unethical behaviour of Jody and the Mormon Church's support of her. I agree she was running a cult. It seems to me that the Chad Daybell mini cult and Jody's cult are seedlings growing from a much larger cult which seems to be the source of many weird, abusive and oppressive off shoots. I believe you said at the end of your podcast, John , that one of your goals is to make the Mormon Church healthier. My Lancastrian grandmother use to say ," thee can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear, lass." I think you haven't a hope in hell of achieving this. I do think it is so helpful that you are exposing the ills of this Church which is in the end days of a stage 4 cancer. The prognosis is not good.

  • He was already abusing his children and contributing to the abuse. He doesn't deserve to see his kids. He needs severe therapy. Should be locked up with his wife

  • I always had the impression that Kevin was pretty weak and just let Ruby take the lead. It's obvious now. It's still hard to imagine how with all he saw from Jodi he still allowed her access to his kids with him totally out of the picture. He was both victim and perpetrator to some degree.

  • I’m a clinical psychologist, although my area of expertise are positive behaviour support & organisational psychology. This video is one of the best videos that this channel has produced. The discussions were respectful of the individuals that were being described at the same time as providing unbiased analysis of the behaviour & the impact of the Mormon doctrines. Love to you from Brisbane Australia. Edited to add - one of the therapists that was working for me in my practice, developed a sexual relationship with one of her clients. I investigated the complaint, terminated her employ& notified APHRA (the regulatory authority) & she lost her registration . I’m pedantic about ethics, working within our scope of practice & declaring conflict of interest. It was one of the most difficult experiences of my career.

  • It's scary how somone like Jody can gain so much power over other people's lives. It's sad that people give it to people like her. I watched Banner Under Heaven recently about the Laffretys and man, it seems like some of the common themes in that story, this one and the Daybell one is people claiming to have visions, be prophets and believe and make others believe that their behavior, no matter how abhorrent, is ordained by God. Scary stuff.

  • millions of viewers at the click of a button - that was jodi's dream come true with Ruby's yt account. all those people to influence just a click away rather than having to pay for travel across the world to only reach a few hundred at a time. tons more mentally weak to easily reach online than offline. Ruby was Jodi's access. As far as Kevin i am still on the fence about that guy. HE could have kicked her out and said enough and got divorce papers out you go both Jodi and Ruby , leave the children and go get out of the house see you in court. That alone would snap Ruby out of it. Kevin didn't want the responsibility of all the kids at once , he never had to before, he used his ability to float on the top. I do not buy his cry baby story.

    @TodayAndForevermore-gt3ff@TodayAndForevermore-gt3ff14 күн бұрын
    • The challenge with that thinking is that divorce is HIGHLY FROWNED UPON in the Mormon Church. My wife stayed for 27 years with a “man” addicted to porn for 20 of those years. He lost 7 jobs and they had to move cross country 4 times. And she stayed because she was doing the right thing according to her faith. Thankfully, she realized that she couldn’t help him heal while she was being psychologically abused. There is much more to our story in getting married and how dastardly the church responded, but that’s for another time. So, please keep in mind, if someone in the CoJCoLDS is truly devout, this is a VERY hard to navigate life.

  • It is wild to me that BYU has someone so idiotic still on as a professor. Even more wild that all those involved are not being excommunicated! Tells me everything I need to know about the LDS church. Shame on them!

    • True! Wild is definitely the word I would use. She completely flipped the script on the guy, but he’s still remarkably dumb, too. Who wears the pants there? Patriarchal BYU employee dad or epileptic, visionary fit-having wife? /s BYU is so poisonous. I’m glad I never went there

  • Bro, you were duped. You are also the victim of abuse. As someone who went through something similar, although way less severe, you need help learning to think for and trust yourself again. Do it for yourself, do it for your kids. Unfortunately, there is a culture that has been propagated in talks within the Church over the years that essentially encourage men to do whatever their wives say. I don’t think this is done maliciously, but for men that are victims of abuse, it is very problematic.

  • Ruby's behavior was headed in the wrong direction before Jodi. But Jodi was in the shadows just salivating to take advantage of Ruby's narcissism and patterns of behavior. I actually do have some sympathy for Kevin though. Was he negligent? Hell yes he was negligent! How much so? It's hard for me to gauge. I don't have the type of brain Kevin does. I think Kevin works in a technical type realm of intelligence where discernment is probably his weakest characteristic. Meaning, he's locked into engineering, then teaching that material as a professor at BYU. I am guessing Kevin was wrapped up in church callings all throughout his marriage to Ruby as well. From there, I assume that he just let Ruby wear the pants in their relationship. Kevin didn't take the time or even have the time to actually figure out what was going on in his own house before it was too late. I think Ruby was Kevin's prize (the pretty Mormon wife) and he let her run the house with the kids and he ignorantly went along for the ride, even more so when millions followed Ruby's KZhead channel. Perhaps he figured something must be right with the mass following the 8 Passengers channel received. Kevin is responsible for allowing the channel to go off the rails to a considerable degree but I think he just put everything in Ruby's control there. It really got out of hand once Jodi stepped in. Jodi took Ruby's narcissistic personality that was wrapped up in a weird Mormon family background and molded it into insane levels of abuse towards her own children. Although I never watched 8 Passengers, I did notice when people began showing the wacky stuff from the channel, that the bad stuff when the children were all younger got worse at about halftime of the channel's shelf life, which matched the timeline when Jodi began communicating with Ruby. Also, once the older two were out of the home picture (Shari and Chad), the youngest kids were held hostage. Before Kevin figured what was going on, he let Ruby involve him with Jodi's man hating therapy. Once Kevin opened up about porn, Jodi and Ruby used it against him to the fullest degree of Mormon shame. Kevin was isolated living alone when Ruby took the younger kids to Ivins in Southern Utah. The church knew what Jodi was doing for 10 years and allowed her to keep her license when she broke client privacy HIPAA ethics. And Jodi kept threatening Kevin and other men to tell their church leaders, ward members and family members of their sins. It was a repeat of what Jodi had done all throughout her so called professional life. Kevin allowed himself to be held hostage and then he was too far involved to know how to get out. He wanted to save his marriage and got mind controlled by Jodi and his wife. Again, I think he is vulnerable to being deceived and lacking discernment. Ruby is disgusting but Jodi is a mastermind of sheer evil.

  • I think Mr. Dehlin is right about strange looking cult leaders. He was trying to be diplomatic, but it's important. The reason some people fall for the cult, is they expect cult leaders to be hansome and charasmatic. They don't expect these odd looking figures like Daybell, Hitler, Warren Jeffs, Trump, etc to be cult leaders. They think these people know what they are talking about. We all want to be nice, but it's important.

  • The leverage here is the sex stuff, and the church culture is accountable. They had him over a barrel with his BYU job, he was trying not to get obliterated by some very dysfunctional people. This feels like a Salem witch hysteria, too, in some ways. Jodi and Ruby, consciously or otherwise, identified social conventions and norms that could be leveraged in such a way that outsized social influence (control) could be achieved and accountability for bad outcomes could be escaped. Jodi’s credential as “therapist” put her beyond a certain reproach threshold for domineering, damaging outcomes she was fostering, and Ruby’s influencer status gave her a social standing nobody “wanted” to disrupt (her followers envied the life they believed she had). The hysteria part is where the two together enjoyed the influence they were achieving and began to test the boundaries of it.

  • This guy is no victim and I'm sick of him being seen as one. He knew how abusive Ruby was before Jody ever became a problem in their lives. He did nothing to protect those kids and then just allowed it to get worse. He should be in prison right alongside them.

  • At 30:50 he is literally describing exactly what they do to those lifs when they send them to camps, etc. They completely break you down to nothing and then build you back up or train you in pther words in the way THEY think you should be, not acceptnyou how you are. Its wrong when it's happening to him but not when he used the same techniques on his kids I suppose? And now Jody and Ruby are being broken down and rebuilt in prison, lol. It's hard not to laugh. 🤭
