About this video: Now that the Montreal Canadiens have just two goaltenders on their roster, Cayden Primeau seems to have settled into a more comfortable and confident role. In fact, he's putting up some of his best performances in his NHL career, which leads Amy to wonder if he could overtake Sam Montembeault as the Habs starting netminder, and how might fans react if that happened?

  • Primeau is near the top, statistically, of Under 25 goaltenders in the NHL this season. There aren't a lot of them, but his performance on a bottom 6 team with a very young defence, really stands out.

  • I think this one is a tough one. I watched both of them throughout the season, briefly in pressers, frustrated with ice time. I've always loved Monty and have also rooted for Primeau. I think both of them have seen the habs through wins, especially Monty, but he also did get more time than Primeau. As you said, and I 100% agree with, Monty has had to play the much better teams and I've also noticed that when Primeau has played, Savard has blocked many shots-so many that he wound up with a 3rd star in one of the games. With that said, IF Primeau can keep playing the way he's been playing and do it against the tough teams, I'd probably lean towards Primeau, but at this point it's only an IF. I actually hope we can see both of them split. I guess only in the future will any of us know for sure. The one thing I'm certain of is I'm definitely not jumping the gun on this one. Huge koodos to both Sam and Cayden!

  • Pretty sure they see Primeau as the likely starter. Montembault was signed to a 3 year backup level contract. Ideally, Cayden will take control next season, the last year of his contract, and sign a contract worthy of a starter going forward.

  • primeau is the first hab ive followed , before he was drafted . normally i follow their careers after theyre drafted . so i would be biased in saying that imo hes the number one monty is the 1b. i believe in primeau so much . that i have him in my hockey pool . playing today vs tampa . being in the finals ,using primeau is a sign of respect . that i dont give many players . imo hes earned my respect and fandom . gohabsgo

  • It works for the Bruins. The Habs are in a good place in goal.

  • Good vs bad teams is the wrong metric -- it should be high scoring vs low scoring teams. I'd start the season by splitting their games evenly based on the opposing team's goals for, not points in the standings.

    • Yes! That's definitely why it was worded in the video as teams more difficult/less difficult to play against (for a goaltender and the defense.) Thanks for watching!

  • The real hockey fan that knows hockey Monty has played all the best teams now primeau has his games other then a few against teams lower then the habs in the standings just hold your horses let's see about the game tonight and in the cames against top teams and who cares if they go tandem like Boston

    • Yes, that's exactly what was presented in the video, when saying that I'd like to see the two get more starts against equally difficult or easy teams to play against....hence, acknowledging that it's been a bit lopsided up til now.
