Milking our Pygora goats

We raise our Pygora goats for fiber. After kidding season has happened and the kids are about 5 weeks old the natural course of helping the kids adjust to being more independent and able to eat grain and grass and hay is to separate them from their mommas. We do not attempt to fully wean them until 8 week. That doesn’t mean we can’t have a taste of the delicious milk they produce!
For the next 3 weeks we will put the does we wish to milk in a separate area away from there kids. We do this later at night. First thing in the morning we will milk them. If we get 2 quarts that would be a good amount. Today we managed to accumulate 4 cups. We make goat cheese out of it. It is a fairly easy process and we can share the steps in another video.
