    • And the reason why he wasn't killed is fucking hilarious. His assassin's gun jammed, then he pulled out a second one and it jammed as well. So Jackson started beating the shit out of him until folk hero Davey Crockett pulled him off the assassin. Jackson then had a statue of himself placed in the exact spot where it happened for extra pettiness. And if you thought the guns jamming was weird, they later tested both pistols and during testing they fired. The assassin just had some extremely shitty luck.

  • Fun Fact about WHH & John Tyler: WHH was a Whig (one of the 2 major parties at the time) but most of John Tyler’s politics weren’t really aligned with the Whig’s goals and he’s was only chosen as Vice President to secure an electoral win over the Democrats. When WHH died it was a massive blow to the Whig Party as they had a President of their party who didn’t agree much with their party so they spent his entire presidency basically at war with one another, this was a large contributing factor to the eventual downfall of the Whig Party.

  • There were rumors that Harrison had poor health and wouldn’t last the presidency and so Harrison as a response gave the longest speech in the cold rain to show he was strong but ended up getting pneumonia and dying from the speech that intended to prove he was strong

  • theres a story about andrew jackson that was passed around as he was running for office. the story goes like this: jackson engaged in a duel with one of the best in the nation. when it was time to draw and fire their weapons, jackson let himself get shot in the arm by the other man. it was a widely accepted rule that participants werent allowed leave the scene unless both weapons had been discharged. jackson used this to his advantage. after getting shot in the arm, he slowly pulled out his gun, loaded it with his wounded arm, took his time to aim, and shot the other guy in the head.

  • Cold weather does not cause colds. Harrison was an old man (68) who contracted a bacteria from the White House water supply which had become contaminated. His first doctor bled him and caused deliberate blistering as was understood to be effective, but we know now were used inappropriately. It is also possible based on his symptoms that he had either an appendicitis attack or a bowel rupture.
