10 Deadliest Predators On The Planet
Not all hunters are born equal. While larger apex predators are known for their magnificent hunting skills, they’re not always the most successful in achieving their target. You’d find it a surprise to know that some of the creatures with the highest kill-rates can be as tiny as 4 inches! From animals that kill for fun to those that can take down millions of smaller creatures in a single bite, there are all kinds of incredible predators with unique hunting styles out there. Some of them could take out a human without a second thought if they wanted to! So, if you’re looking to be awed by nature’s diversity, we’ve got an exciting list for you. But watch out because some of them are bound to pop up in your nightmares.
Let’s get started!

Dragon Fly
The creature with a remarkable kill rate of 95% is none other than the dragonfly! The insect world is indeed full of incredible creatures, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but to imagine such a tiny animal achieving far greater success than any apex predator is mindblowing. What is the secret to dragonfly’s success? Complex eyes specialized to detect black spots against the sky and individual muscles powering the wings with fantastic speed and agility are just the iceberg’s tip.
The dragonfly’s brain is where the secret lies. Dragonflies use a highly efficient hunting strategy by predicting where the prey will go and use the appropriate muscles to attack. They’ll consume any flying target roughly the size of their head, and larger species may even go as far as to catch other dragonflies!
African Wild Dogs
Meet the largest endangered canid in Africa: the African wild dog. Don’t be fooled by their lean frames and massive ears that make them appear rather endearing - they’re one of the most successful predators on earth! Their common English name is “Lycaeon pictus,” which translates to ‘painted wolf.’ But these are neither wolves nor dogs, although they do belong to the Canidae family.
Their secret to a high kill-rate lies in the fact that they’re cooperative pack hunters that chase large prey for long distances across the open plains. The chase tires out their victims, and the dogs go in for the kill! Research in Botswana and Kenya revealed that wild dogs often target small animals in woodland savannah habitats, such as dik-dik and hares. Maybe that’s another secret to their success!
