I can not believe people are comparing Green Velvet to "Big Room" DJs. I really can not believe that people are calling this "trance". And I do not understand why people are saying he played be same "track" for an hour. House music isn't about "tracks" like what people do on the Mainstage at every festival around the world. That's watered down Electro (which is still great as a genre) by lazy DJs. People don't even know music history or variety and yet they love to talk like they're experts. If it wasn't for producers spinning House, Techno, Minimal, and the like, there WOULDN'T BE any watered down mainstream Electro. There's a reason these DJs are STILL making this music and why they play MARATHON sets for hours at clubs and venues around the world, not just an hour set of the "top ten EDM tracks" that most Mainstage DJs do now. I'm all for musical variety and opinions, but I kindly ask everyone that lacks musical knowledge to SHUT UP and go back to listening to the "top ten EDM tracks" OR learn your electronic music history before talking badly about a producer that runs circles around most of the "DJs" you enjoy.

From my super, super limited knowledge this did seem like trance to me because I only really know trance as opposed to other music as having the quality of spread out tension throughout a song, layers of samples added and then subtracted subtly, a lack of beat drops, a more continuous sound and tension throughout the song inducing a trance.
+micahb574 Trance is typically straight 4/4 time and relies upon repeated melodic phrases to carry the song. There is typically a build up and a wind down. House is typically less melody dependent and known more for its unique rhythmic drum beat on every quarter note. With that said, I'd not call this Green Velvet set trance OR house. It's not trancey in the slightest. It's more like minimal acid techno in the old school Detroit style with a somewhat housey feel underlying the flow.

It's exactly as you say: people who wouldn't even have made an effort to go to a decent electronic event are now attending festivals and thinking they're "cultured". Electronic music is undergoing a huge transition right now and it's exciting, but it's been around for awhile. People who are interested in Electro should explore other genres and DJs outside the Mainstage, honestly.
Listening to this in 2023 and our boy Green Velvet STILL holds up! Favorite DJ of all time!

Proton1 I have a lot of love for detroit, but the US is dead now for dance music. It's all shitty trap and edm. All of the good US producers spend most of their time in Berlin or London. US is not the best for house and techno now and hasn't been since the late 70s/80s/early 90s when it all began.

I will never forget the first time I saw Green Velvet. I was at Hard Summer 2016 in Fontana, CA and I was dragged to go see Ty Dolla Sign by my friends. I knew he was going to be there, but I would have to leave my friends who aren't into him, and since the event was big, finding them again would be an issue. The rap show sucked, so me and my girlfriend snuck away to tent because you could hear the music and there he was...Holy shit. I was so close to him. Being in front of a legend and those speakers was unreal. We danced the night away. I put the video up if you want to check it out.

WOW as a Young man who just recently got into Techno and House music in Late 2017. To see the crowd like this is so satisfying. I’ve only been to One Rave in Toronto, Electric Islands. And the crowd was so awesome to see dancing and having fun. But this video just goes beyond that. Everyone in this Video is having fun and dancing. Not using their cellphones. The past was great as I can tell with this video. May the future be bright as well. Long Live Techno 🙌

I love what he does at 3:30 and so on I don't know the proper dj terminology, but I noticed that he isn't just mixing songs together and doing big drops every 5 minutes... he's literally switching up the drum patterns and making small changes to the beat that create a really awesome vibe. I know I'm butchering that, but the point is it sounds so damn good!!!

For me the best, his style makes it something exciting his mixes are really something that takes you to another world. It is very good dj. For me in this live is very careful I like it. I dont believe Tomorrowland is a place for the underground music scene, The crowds are not there to enjoy the music, most of them are there to get high, get laid and fuck around not to enjoy the music and get lost in it. thats right, normally the song is at 136 bpm or so, but this complete set is just played at a speed of 128 or so, the mixing with an 'faster' song is then not compatible, so he lowers it.

Green Velvet does not only feel the music, *HE IS THE MUSIC* :-) Green Velvet and his label Relief Records are an institution in techno house society. This man from chicago rocks the crowds worldwide on every continent for more than 25 years, no matter if he plays smaller audience at the club venues or stadium like big floors due to his excellent mixing skills / technique and his excellent well-chosen music.
