The polo shirt is part of my warm weather uniform, absolutely love them and can wear them with just about anything.
The double window showing the shoes makes it very nice.
Thank you!
Hello I think saw you at the Wine Ranch restaurant in Marietta. My wife and I were sitting down drinking a bottle of wine and a very nice blonde lady asked if the chairs were taken you went outside were they have a patio. We were done so we left. I just wanted to say thank you for all the tips on dressing up. I'll be 52 August 3 my wife loves the way I have been dressing up. Thank you
Het Jeffrey! Thanks for commenting! Please say hello next time! Always nice meeting new people!
I love the crisp white polo with black jeans and white Vans. Tucked in for business, untucked for casual. But if untucked, has to be the right length.
Yes, exactly! Thanks Chris!
Love the polo with shorts, jeans, chinos and I love your combination. John, you’re the kind of person who I would actually pay to help me shop for clothing.
I appreciate that! Thank you!
I'm now living in a tropical island, so Polo shirts are an important part of my wardrobe. They are not only comfortable, but can be very versatile: depending of the occasion, I can use the same Polo shirt with shorts to go to the supermarket, or wear it with a sport jacket for a more smart casual look. As always, great video!
Thanks Julio!
Great history lesson. Thanks, good to know.
I have the same navy blue polo with white pipping and love it! It looks like a polo which cost five times as much as it does. Great content as always John, and interesting history of the polo shirt!
Definitely loved outfit number 3 most. Absolute class
Thanks John.
Love it. Thanks for the ideas.
Hey John, great to see you again, you remind me sooo much of an ex of mine who was always so stylish and wore snug fitting trousers and shirts, oh the memories....
John, you are always motivating...
Thank you!
I liked the split screen showing a close up of your shoes, well done.
Thank you!
I really like that long sleeve dark blue shirt. That looks sharp!
Thanks! I thought throwing in a long sleeve would be a bonus.
Nice work John. Love the Shirt outstanding
Thanks for the history lesson John. Great looks. That background music is awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the video!! Polos are my staple and go to for my office here in FLORIDA. Wearing one today my friend!!
Good choice!
John you look fabulous. Mainly in the last attire with dark pants. 👍👍👍
Thank you!
The last one was my favorite look as well.
Another great video for the books! You look outstanding in all your outfits. I always tuck polos in wearing jeans or slacks. It just looks better and if you feel good then you look good. I’ll wear untucked only when wearing shorts for a casual event that’s the only time. Btw I purchased the collar stays you recommended in one of your videos, I’ll never not have them in stock now. Thanks again John you rock! Peace, health and happiness to you 🙏
Love the video John, Polos are a massive part of my summer wardrobe, love wearing them , and being a golfer, they seem to be part of my weekend wear also, with Shorts in summer, and with Chinos when out, keep the videos coming, and be safe
Yes they are! I play golf also.
Excellent video John. I like the split screen view, I think it'd be cool if you showed off other details besides the shoes too (watch, belt, interesting detail on shirt, etc.)! - Han
👆 What he said.
Elegant as usual. Love from Morocco
Thank you! Cheers!
Loved the history lesson. Thanks for that!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this nice n informative video. More power!
Thank you too
Great video thanks
The polo shirt is a must have and it’s so versatile! Keep up the good work, mate!
Thanks! Will do!
never knew the croc story, thats funny. The black polo shirt has been my go to forever. Shockingly one of the best fits I ever found was on accident; a cheap faded glory from walmart lol
Add a summer sport coat/blazer, and you're ready for an upscale event. Nice video!
Short sleeve or long sleeve Polo Shirts are so versatile. Great styling John, love the navy polo with the white pipping!
Thank you!
Love the Lacoste story..
A little late in my viewing of your video. Work sometimes gets in the way. Love the history and the looks that you put together. Great video once again. Thanks for giving us ideas on how to style the oft maligned polo. Bob
Thanks for watching Bob! Better late than never my friend!
Great video loved the history lessen
Glad you enjoyed it
I love, love, loooooove Polo Shirts. I have a number of them from CHAPS, Izod, and Tommy Hilfiger. 😁😊🤗 They have become a Spring, Summer and now casual-Friday-in-the office staple
John, terrific video this morn. And thanks for the history lesson. Everything looks great on you as well. Oh and Ashley and Dorian released a video just yesterday saying “absolutely NEVER tuck in your Polo shirt. I stand with you and happy you are a fellow tucker! Have a great day.
Oh really? I'll have to goo look. I say it depends on the length of your Polo. I showed untucked, half tucked and full tucked in this video.
Ashley and Dorian said one can half tuck and full tuck a polo. The one they said must always be tucked in are dress shirts.
Eye Heart Sushi they said never tuck a polo. I thought so anyway.
Will Levine I stand corrected. They said for polos, wear untucked or half-tucked but not fully tucked. They prefer the half-tucked look.
What's wrong in tucking a polo shirt in? It looks great actually.
I love polos too, but finding ones with robust collars is a real challenge. So many of the collars get destroyed after just a few washes. Great vid John!
So true!
Great video brother❤
Thank you!
Hey John, love your videos. What is your opinion about long sleeve polo in merino wool? Grtz from Belgium.
Hello John, how are you? Thank you for that informative video! Stay safe brother!!
Thanks, you too!
Great looks, and the best part is I just discovered Express has tall sizes.
Yes they do! Thanks for commenting!
Thank you for the tips! Being a huge fan of polos and khaki pants, and a fan of anything Lacoste, Fred Perry, Slazenger, Le Coq Sportif, Sergio Tachini, Classic Dunlop tennis shoes and Ellesse or the super and the quite easily forgotten original British Skin head styling circa 1950s or 1960s, I am hoping for something under these old school labels. Also, I must say you looked super sharp matching that polo shirt with the pants and the casual shoes! First time checking out your channel and I definitely subscribed. I will be on the lookout for more styling from your channel... being 48 and wanting to look sharp as I age on without the tackiness that comes with men of a certain age.
Thank you!
Polo shirts are great on many occasion, for any sport or to wear during the weekend. Lacoste was the brand who made polo shirts popular, but I think Lacoste polo shirts are too classic (and quite expensive).
what would you wear over a polo shirt especially a knitted one like a john smedley knitted polo shirt
Great content as usual Just curious what watch are you wearing in the video
Hi Bryan! It's a Orient Mako II. amzn.to/2MRb4OM
With polo season around the corner, this video could've have come at a better time. Thank you
Thanks for watching and commenting Byron!
Do you have a video about what length a polo shirt should be when worn untucked? The lengths can be all over the place from brand-to-brand and depending on if I can get into a small vs. a medium. TY
This was great. Thanks for that bit of a history lesson, and the blue and white polo looks really good on you!
Thanks for the historical background. Fascinating!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the video. Would you always wear Polo's tucked in? I'm 40 and do not want to look sloppy.
I think it depends on the length of the Polo shirt. I showed untucked, half tucked and full tucked in this video.
I love polos. I have a couple from express and h and m. I don’t like the pique cotton ones. The one issue I always have is whether to tuck or not. You seem to favor tucking...
I guess it depends on the length of the Polo. I showed untucked, half tucked and full tuck in this video.
40 Over Fashion thanks! I guess I’ll have to rewatch the video, I didn’t pick up on all the tucks.
Great video, John. I knew it originated with Rene Lacoste but didn’t know his nickname was The Crocodile nor that he actually put a crocodile logo early on. Also, I liked how you showed each shoe on the right, during the look book. What kind of belt is that at 3:27?
It's from Anson Belt. ansonbelt.com/
Hi John. Are those the same black Great sneakers that you had when you did the comparison video with the Zaras last year ? If they are they're still looking great (no pun intended). Peace. :)
Yes they are! Thanks!
I love to wear polo’s I wear them every day. In combined with Lacoste shoes. I’m from Europe and wearing brand’s like Lacoste, Ralph Laurent, Fred perry and stone island is verry populair. I’m wondering john, are you into stone island ? It’s a expensive brand, but verry nice brand for guys to wear over 40. Like your channel, keep it up. Greetings from Amsterdam, the Netherlands
I'll have to look into them! Thanks!
Should the sleeves be tight if ribbed material, or can it be loose fitting?
I’d say somewhere in the middle. Not too loose and not overly tight.
My job let's me wear shorts so I compliment them each day with an Untucked Polo and brown leather Sketchers. I almost always full tuck a Polo with Chinos or dark wash jeans but untucked with light wash jeans.
What do you think about @ashleyweston thoughts about only wearing polos untucked due to their casual nature. Do you think that rule changes over 40?
I guess it depends on the polo shirt. Golf polos for example should be tucked in.
Loved the video. However, where did you get that kick a** music? Be safe my friend, stay positive. The world needs it. -Johnny
Thank you! I get music from Epidemic Sound.
Great video! IMHO: An untucked 'tennis tail' polo is sloppy. I gotta have uniform length in front and back to untuck. Also, It seems like polos with thin/sheer fabric work better untucked than cotton, and untucked feels better with jeans versus khakis.
Great video. But my problem is with Express clothing. Their quality just socks. After a few washes, many times just one, the clothes just don't fit right anymore. Not to mention bad stitching...
I haven't really seen that too much William. Maybe with some stuff, but I've had pieces for years that are still going strong.
John....my entire life I have had a small spare tire around my waist. No amount of dieting or exercise has been effectual in eliminating it. If I were to wear a polo shirt as you have illustrated, I feel it would only accentuate that spare tire. I know I'm not the only guy with this problem. How would you advise us as to how to style our polos?
Tucking in your shirt isn't really a requirement. I showed untucked, half tucked and full tuck in this video. Feel free to experiment with what looks best. :)
Well John, based on the comments, it appears a tuck vs. untuck vs. half-tuck video is in order 😉
Hey John, speaking of Polo's, my wife and I had a debate this morning concerning wearing a t-shirt under my polo, what say ye?
Hi Doug! I rarely ever (practically never) wear a t-shirt. I don't think a t-shirt is necessary under a Polo.
I occasionally wear thin, moisture-wicking undershirts under my polo shirts. It depends on the polo shirt.
Hi John, I notice that you don't really have any of the shirts untucked in your video. Is that because you think that wearing them untucked is for a more youthful audience, or just your personal preference?
It can look a little sloppy at times. I guess it depends on the length of the Polo. I showed untucked, half tucked and full tuck in this video.
Not sure why John may or may not untuck his Polo Shirt but for me since I'm a shot guy(5'4") even the XS shirts are too long for me, mass produced clothing are made for men who are 5'9" and up.
I guess it really depends on the length and fit of the polo shirt. For my size ( slim fit ) Lacoste polo shirt is hard to wear tucked.
Do you think Polos are ok if you have a bit of a beer belly; not svelte? Thanks
Yes. Just get the fit right so it doesn't pull or stretch too much.
Also, do not tuck the polo shirt if you have a belly.
To tuck or not to tuck. That is the question.
Indeed.
I guess it depends on the length of the shirt. I showed untucked, half tucked and full tucked in this video.
Funny how the Lacoste crocodile is constantly misidentified and the shirt is much better known as the alligator shirt 😀
Undershirt with polo?
I’d say no. Personally, don’t wear under shirts.
Very interesting presentation, but I prefer Ralph Lauren polo shirts. In Australia they are the most expensive brand, but in my opinion the quality of manufacturing justifies the higher cost. The full taping of the inside shoulder seams being an obvious example. There's an interesting story behind their origin. Phil.
Lactose teamed up with Andre, don't I feel special
I do,nt hate polo shirts but I never buy them,,I just do,nt feel comfortable in them,, much prefer just a cotton shirt with sleeves rolled up and no tie..in my opinion just feels alot more relaxing and a better look.
2:24 let's hope those pants don't come back in style
Haha!
“Wide fit” pants are trending now but they don’t look as hideous as 2:24. Still ugly though, hahaha.
John great Vid mate love that piped polo again all your fault I own every color in that range the light blue and grey are great as well, I would add that I use sticky polo collar stays keep that collar nice and straight, here's the one I use hope you don't mind me sharing www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007RHF4GE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Perfect! Thanks!
Don't like the way the collars tend to curl, otherwise they're fine for summer wear.
Yeah, I noticed that issue with collars. I always blame the wife for her ironing techniques.
I’m 60 and lost interest in polo shirts. Now it’s camp collar short sleeve or linen long sleeve.
Where do you get the camp collar shirts?
I had a polo shirt that looks like it has old man fabric.
You didn't provide any information on Do and don't, people often look for dressing tips rather than the history of clothing.. i hope you get what i am saying .. appreciate if you focus on the solution and advice then promoting brands and yourself.
I normally agree with you but not completely with this video. No pockets on polo shirts. Actually I don’t like pockets on any shirt. I also don’t like contracting colors on polo shirts.
I don't think a Polo shirt should ever be tucked in.
I guess it depends on the length of the Polo. I showed untucked, half tucked and full tuck in this video.
Good friend..... Plz one vedio for long shive and beared......
Tucked in polo shirts look a bit naff. You wouldn't see Italians, Spaniards and French wearing them like this...only Americans.
