  • Reaction is everything in self defence. Otherwise you might freeze; and when you freeze you're in trouble. Doesn't matter about technique. If you freeze, there is no technique you just become a target. I got taught a really basic reaction drill but it really helped me. You stand facing someone and they have to tap or hit your shoulder. You have to react by hitting their shoulder first which stops the "punch". Learning to react felt almost like a super power to me. Even if i was crossing the road and a car came flying roumd the corner I don't freeze as much as I would have. It's also so important in order to in, say if someone's swinging a haymaker or a bat at you.

  • Too much defence in this drill. If you have to defend at all in combat then you want to be counter-attacking at the same time or at the least on the next defensive manoeuvre. If someone trains to defend for prolonged sequences then it's inevitable that the defender will get hit as his mind set is not set on attacking. Fancy drills that entertain the ego are not necessarily the truth.

    • That is why Benny The Jet was one of the greatest. Their is never enough drills in defense. You never know what is coming but you can prepare from any angle possible. If you have taken any type of Martial Arts you would know that you drill all the time

    • Frankie Rivera Oh man... how stupid am I!? Thanks for the heads up Sensei, especially when I've never even taken any kind of martial arts class in the last 48 years of my life, thanks for reminding me about my vapid existence, I seriously thought that I had. Hell... I even thought I'd got several black belts at it, and was an instructor for the last 30 years, but hey! Without you there, along the way, I'd forget everything and be deluding myself all over youtube, so thank you Sifu Rivera, may your goats make much cheese:-)..

      @therealawakener7@therealawakener710 жыл бұрын
    • Number one as a Martial artist since the 80's, I was taught never to disrespect anyone, especially another Martial Artist. Since you stated that you have numerous Black Belts, which is good for you, then I am sure you were taught that there is room to get better with practice. I was merely Pointing out the words you stated about one of the greatest Martial Artist. As I may not be A Numerous Black Belt Holder Like you, like you stated, I do hold a Black Belt In Kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do, a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, have my own Cross Fit gym, I am also an avid Triathlon competitor, and was the self defense and Kickboxing Instructor In Desert Storm for the LRSD Airborne Rangers while station overseas, but hey you way better than anybody else. I am just saying be humble always and just because you don't agree with his teaching methods, we must remember that every instructor teaches their way.

    • Michael Goldman Have you ever seen Benny in a street fight with a trained killer, I doubt he'd be using that drill?

      @therealawakener7@therealawakener710 жыл бұрын
    • ***** You've just agreed with my comments in your reply, congratulations, now you just have to UNDERSTAND that you have! Training defensive reflexes for actual combat has little relevance compared to training attacking and counter attacking reflexes. Benny is one of the greatest martial artist's ever to have stepped in a ring, but he was predominantly a ring fighter, and his methods are mainly geared to that for that. Try to understand the difference between sport (controlled brutality) & combat (uncontrolled brutality). Have a great day:-)).
