Spore Speedrun to Ally the Grox Empire starting from Cell Stage on Easy Difficulty in 55:04 (56:57 Real Time). Let me know what you thought of this run and the commentary. I had a lot of fun making this Post commentary and I'm always looking for ways to improve for future videos!
Later I realized I kept referring to becoming a "Predator" as "Aggressive" for Creature Stage and "Social" as "Friendly" for Tribal. I was using these terms since these are the 'setconsequencetrait' cheat codes for these Stages, and I didn't realize that the History called these differently.
Big thanks to Andrey for suggesting this speedrun challenge!

Everyone always talks shit on Spore but I loved it growing up and still play it every once in a while. Recently though it's stopped working on my computer, which makes me very sad! I'm glad to see there's a community around it, and even speedrunners.
The problem spore had was it was very over hyped and it had draconian drm that limited the amount of times you could install the game while it being super buggy. If you have few expectations its fun
I disagree. your the kid who thinks swearing is "cool" and "social". guess what? NO IT ISNT. and I have never seen someone trash talk on spore ever.
@@entertainmentanimations bro wtf
@@entertainmentanimations Well, I'm 22. Still pretty young, but not a kid. You shouldn't bash people for how they speak. If I were like you, maybe I'd correct the fact that you used "your" wrong. I don't need to worry about whether my speech is "cool." For a lot of people, swearing is just another part of informal conversation. People in the world are not going to censor themselves around you just because of your personal opinions. It's alright for you to choose not to swear, but you can only control yourself. Please learn from this and don't go around saying this kind of thing to other people - they'll certainly be a lot ruder to you. Also, while you haven't heard anyone trash talk Spore, that's not the same for everyone. In many of the contexts I've heard it, it's usually other gamers/content creators joking on it for being "pointless" and, as the other commenter said, "buggy" and its ridiculous DRM. (That means anti-piracy stuff, which didn't work a lot of the time and even locked people out of their own games they bought.) I'd recommend looking up the Monster Factory episodes on it, but the hosts do swear, so there's your warning in advance. Unrelated, I'm glad to see you're passionate about animation! I like drawing and animating too. I hope you get the chance to make something famous someday!

well, to be fair, most creatures that are referred to as "carnivores" do have plants in their diet to some degree, and vice versa. horses are a good example of the latter, as they are notorious for being opportunistic carnivores. i live in a relatively rural area, and it's not uncommon to see a horse just casually lean down and snap up a chick that passes by. so it's not unrealistic for the game to consider you a carnivore despite an appreciable portion of your diet being plant matter.
the only thing is that the game has a dedicated omnivore category, so..
horses do what
@@metalface8515 so does the scientific community. and yet horses are still classified as herbivores
I believe it's a matter of percentage of diet. A "hypercarnivore" is an animal whose diet is >70% meat, like dogs/wolves and cats. I assume there's other classifications for herbivores or omnivores.
@@metalface8515 Hogs IRL, like humans, are examples of 'true' omnivores, because both species have very balanced diets and can eat either entirely fine.

The other day my tribal run was messed up because a spaceship that was abducting a creature picked up my chieftain in the abduction beam and dropped him. This makes it so the chieftain dies and cant be replaced so be careful in future runs if you encounter a spaceship in tribal stage

"The game is likely to crash when you die" The game crashes 90% of the time if you die while your packmates are still alive in the creature stage. So it's literally the right thing to do to send them forward in front of you and use them as meatshields, otherwise you lose all progress since your last save
Not 90% for me lol. I only crashed once in my two playthroughs
I think it’s much more likely to crash when you press esc to hurry it along, but that’s from a pretty small sample size.
@@thebigyes8482 Yes, but regardless of pressing esc or waiting the cutscene out - if the living packmates are still in combat while you're dead, the game will crash.

Spore is a game I revisit every few years. Seeing such a fun game I've played for so many years being speedrun is amazing.
One fun part I love about allying the Grox. Your rep gets so bad that even creatures you uplift after the fact will hate you on sight

I like how the space part works, but it really gets tiresome later into the game with too much micro management and pirates. But it still have a spacial part in my heart :)
I’m glad spore still has a fan base
* Alliance declared with the grox * *_Several people are typing..._*
Oh hey, I suggested the same challenge in the comments! Glad to see it come to fruition. Would a kill all the Grox run perhaps be feasible?
I think that that run would take too long and will be too repetitive. You'll probably just use the fanatic ability, save and exit, repair, fly over to next system, repeat.
Thanks for the suggestion as well! :D Sorry I missed your original comment. Perhaps one day I could stream a casual play through destroying the Grox or something, but for a speedrun it would take too long. The Grox have 2400 star systems to conquer, that would take me weeks ;)
let's say one cycle takes, say, 10 seconds (probably way too short but it'll add up), then taking over 2400 star systems would take at least 24000 seconds or almost 7 hours (and that's assuming no breaks, 100% optimisation and that all grox star systems have only one grox colony, which is also not true), so it'd take way too long in any case
...To be fair, there ARE some absurdly long speedruns, but... yeah, no.
@@toimine8930 I might be wrong but i think you can instantly destroy a grox planet by getting its Tscore to the center even if it's not stable? i thought i remembered doing that exploit to destroy a ton of grox... but I might be wrong
I like Spore frankly more than I should, so learning about these glitches and the route was super cool.
i love how he allied god damn grox in time where game thinks its a challenge to finish cell stage LOL
This content is very well done there is no way I would sit through this without you here with me Awesome stuff
I had no idea you could reset animations to get extra tribe members that's really cool!
Maaan you actually did it! What an absolute king :) Good job, thanks for making my idea real!
Huh, so I am not the only one with random crashes in this game huh lol Great run as always! Your commentary is as entertaining as usual too!
My most loved strategy is to get abillity to instantly buy systems that are homeworlds to other empires, but keeping all they cities. You basically going to their home planet that has a ton of cities, GO DOWN to the planet, start dialog with them so they'll sell a system to you, and voila, you get yourself a system that creates a ton of spice of whatever color and 100 storage for it on this planet. I literally got to 99.999.999 something sporlings in 10 minutes afk.
So cool to see that Spore is still a thing even in 2021. I was wondering about something in the space part of the speedrun: Wouldn't it be faster to use the fanatical frenzy on the grox planets right after you've done their mission? It usually takes too long for another mission to appear and it would save you the hassle of finding another inhabited planet
That is a good point and optimization! I may have been using the Fanatical Frenzy specifically on systems on the edge of Grox territory so I could be out of their firing range. But I could probably work that in if I do something like this again in the future!
I am sleep deprived and my first reaction to the title was me asking 'is there really a Grox named Ally in the game? Who the hell are they?'
Alright so i love how speedrunners can just go to a random game and bring it back to the dead and discover new things. thats amazing tbh. wonder how quest64 speedruns would be like.
