They say that they don't have the info bc they really are clueless -- political assignments for heads of federal agencies are not trained for those positions, (ex: Pete Buttgeig, Sam the suitcase thief, even Harris), they haven't temped at the agency, definitely not a seasoned employee, and were not promoted from within based on merit. This practice is why corruption flourishes in DC -- their orders come straight from the white house.
Refusal to answer should be a reason for automatic dismissal of their position and charges of corruption. They should not protected.
A question to have asked is: Is it long standing policy to not close investigations of things you just don’t want to talk about?
Any dept that needs more than two friggin years to investigate is sorely incompetent and needs to be fired, IMMEDIATELY!
You don't understand how investigations work do you... There's no time limit. You can't just splurge what evidence you have in public, it could potentially ruin a case.

I should have listened to my 11th grade Economics teacher who told me to keep my grades up so she could help get me into the same law school she went to, because she said she believed I had a lot of potential for that career field. In any normal investigation the person first reporting the bomb would have been the center of the investigation until they found evidence to rule them out. He told him twice they provide their funding, they have the clearance to hear whatever he can say. Refuses to answer citing their policy, it is the law, not policy but the law that when a congressional oversight committee asks a question, they answer it. May need to go into closed session if the material is sensitive, but they have the legal right to that answer. His next question should have been to ask him if he likes his job.

Unfortunately in these types of hearings, they are not presided over by a judge, so that means there is no real legal ramification for not answering their questions. They'll show up just to show up but the are not legally forced to answer their questions. Yes, it is very frustrating to see it turn out this way.
