Glad to see Dr. Omar Suleiman on Al Jazeera. I have heard his lectures before and he has been one of those reasonable voices in speaking out against the atrocities against Palestinians through this genocide and before. As every time, it was enlightening to hear him speak.

By that time there was still no evidence of "Palestinian" roots or culture . ·The historian James Parker wrote: "During the first century after the Arab conquest [670-740 c.e.], the caliph and governors of Syria and the [Holy] Land ruled entirely over Christian and Jewish subjects. Apart from the Bedouin in the earliest days, the only Arabs west of the Jordan were the garrisons". Even though the Arabs ruled the Land from 640 c.e. to 1099 c.e., they never became the majority of the population. Most of the inhabitants were Christians (Assyrian and Armenian) and Jews.

Where is the humanity 'found for" the displaced Sudanese scattered across Africa, or the Haitians, or the Rohingya? All the world's attention is on Gaza, which has caused *widespread condemnation* of Israel's military campaign world over by _ordinary_ folks. The groups mentioned earlier haven't been quite as lucky in getting attention, partly because they are not in a full-blown war with a "Western" country or any of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and partly due to years of desensitization of media coverage. The response of governments and regular folks should not be confused with one another. The Palestinian people have gotten plenty of support from ordinary folks worldwide.

I’ve always sympathized with the Palestinian people because their oppression is so obvious to me. The taking of their land is another obvious thing to me. My Jewish friend said: but the Jewish people took desolate land and did something with it. 😢 I was taken aback by her response and I didn’t pursue the conversation but instead delved into history. The Palestinians need to understand Israel isn't going anywhere & peace and coexistence is the better option & all these issues will disappear.
the story is much more complicated than the simple oppression narrative which you believe and i, as a fair-minded person, used to believe. look up recent interviews with someone like Benny Morris if you want to hear the other sides perspective. If you don’t want to hear the other sides’ perspective well in that case I would submit that it’s the prevalence of widespread stubborn moral certainty on both sides which has led us to the state of things today.
