Baskinator needs to go. Entire team needs a review. Spitz had a character development arc but he was the sacrificial lamb in the end. In the end tho this is what accountability looks like sometimes. He dropped the ball in his initial response to the whole thing and these things have consequences. It's just how life works. We tip our hats to him just the same.

Twinbeard's solid, and the one girl whose name I forget. Missy or whatever. She was just trying to be positive about the Sony thing, but she crumpled under pressure. But yeah, the rest of them are crap and are doing such an awful job one wonders if its purposeful.

So many multiple reasons why Sony was in the wrong and was about to nuke the game had hundreds of thousands of players not stepped up. Most egregious was the fact that Sony were literally rewriting the ToS in their favour _after_ millions of players around the world had already accepted it. It would have cost the game 60% of the playerbase.

While you're probably right about the rest of... whatever you're thinking of - that I can't deny - this however isn't about Drama - this is an unfortunate repercussion built on mis-understandings and mis-communications (or hidden communications, depending on how you view the placement of important factors in a User-License Agreement) and how Sony knowingly sold Helldivers 2 to Countries with zero, or extremely limited access, to PSN accounts. Re-read that as many times as it takes : this isn't/wasn't drama, it is/was Scummy Company Decision-Making that the community fought against, and won, not for themselves, but for those who would have, essentially, been "robbed" by Sony. Still a better love story than Twilight, though.

A community manager is supposed to manage the needs/wants of the Players For the Company; Spitz Managed Democracy For the Players, against the Company(ies , technically) and knowingly risked his job (and then lost it) because he stood on the side of the Players. Considering how immersed players get in Helldivers, and the content creators get about it... I think it only natural that Spitz be heralded as the martyr he became.

In one response I saw where he was antagonistic, he had said to the effect of , "didn't you say you were re-funding/uninstalling?" While he was definitely out of line, he still pressured the community to do what was effective, for the community - not the company/corporation(s) he was paid to represent. Do I know everything that transpired? Absolutely not - but I can still recognize that both his behavior and suggestion of action, intentional or (edit: nor) not (in regards to his behavior) had a positive effect for us players, and not Sony. Did I over-dramatize the reception I feel Spitz should be receiving without expressing in full, why I believe it? Yes. Is this even enough to justify it? NO. I'm some guy sitting at home with a keyboard on my down-time, chiming in for fun. If any of this is incorrect, or there is information you have that could change my stance, I'm happy to hear it. I did not realize I was so ill-informed as to receive such a vitriolic response; my bad.

Personally i still think Baskinator and Purplegion deserve more to go than Spitz. Spitz despite his flaws seems to be on the players side and care compared to the 2 others. I do get it though if both Arrowhead and specially Sony was not happy with Spitz comment that we should go give negative reviews and request refounds 💙💜

There was a lot of other things said by Spitz and other CMs that I just assumed you did not mention (if you are on the Helldivers 2 Discord) as you seemed to be focusing primarily on the issue of the PSN requirement. What Spitz said there at the end was what he should have remembered as a CM, to show some professionalism. It’s understood that being constantly bombarded as they were over the last few days would be trying, but he should have remembered that you have to hit a button to submit or transmit your text into the ether on the ‘net and maybe you should think about whether or not you should push that button to transmit or not.
Ya he kinda ""scammed"" Sony so it was expecting he got fired. He knew Sony only looked at the steam reviews and used that against them but looks like they probably founded out. Sucks he got fired though.

I think he did everyone a favor even though Sony won’t see it like that right now; I think the game would be dead without his honesty and they wouldn’t want that. A lot of people bought the game after the wild weekend and Helldivers got a lot of attention.

I was saying this a while back. If you work at burger king and you tell the customer the whopper isn't FANTASTIC and some other store is better. TRUST you gonna get a talking to. His JOB was to tell everyone the corporate talking points and have people like it. He is NOT supposed to say he hates what Sony was doing. Or how to fight back. QA (quality assurance for all of who dont know) will snap you up for making the COMPANY LOOK BAD. Even if he was on OUR side.

@@SunWukongSonGoku thank you I appreciate you explaining that coherently. I once worked at a call center for a warranty company. Customer called furious about being sent back and forth. I found the issue and told him the truth. Customer was upset but satisfied with my response. 2 hours later I was called into QA office and written up because the truth made their company and contracted companies "look bad" 🤣.
As much as I respect the effort Spitz put into being an active CM, he was unprofessional often. From a pure business perspective, this decision makes sense to me.
Wouldn't surprise me if Sony wanted him gone for his actions. Like, it was a thing they demanded in turn for them ending the linking
Not sure, I think everything Spitz said could have been communicated much more diplomatic, and in the end it was his impulsive nature that might have been a big risk to take on the role as community manager.

I don’t get it, people say they are tired of politcially correct coporate “professional-speak”, then they finally get some raw human interaction in a high pressure scenario and they cry about how the mean words hurt their feelings. What?
If you see the PSN linking debacle as a Lawful evil choice by Sony, then I'd say that the choice to fire Spitz would be either Lawful neutral or true neutral. On one hand, Sony can not have their community managers declaring civil war against them; but on the other hand community managers are indeed supposed to be that all inportant link between the wider community and the larger corporation. They have a tough job, walking a fine line where they need to fight on the side of the community AND advocate on behalf of the corporation when the community gets too rowdy. In this matter, Spitz decided to fully take the side of the community and do what he believed was right for the players. Which i comend him for. However, i also understand why Sony felt the need to "purge" him from the company. At the end of the day, the score in this whole controversy ends in a 1-1 draw. Hopefully, both sides have newfound respect for each other and are willing to move forward together.

IMO, Spitz was not being an jerk, he was literally telling us how to unite against Sony and show our strength. He knew it was risky for his career but he did what his moral compass pointed at and we should be thankful for him and do something about it again. Take advantage of the momentum. He was clearly fired as an order from Sony as he said "there's nothing WE (from arrowhead) can do about it)". Think about it, no CM would be that dumb to say what he said if not with a purpose.

He spoke up against those hostile gamers that disrespected the devs because their favorite weapon was nerfed. Imagine being so entitled and selfish that you complain about someone who spoke up to you because you kept being disrespectful.
I feel for Spitz, but he's also brought this on himself. Dealing with people can be exhausting but if, while I worked as a cashier at a grocery store, I told someone to fuck off or cry to corporate or whatever when someone got red in the face and yelled and insinuated my mother delivered favors for narcotics in alleyways because their two dollar bag of chips didn't ring up with the proper 30 cents off, I'd lose my job. But that's why I don't want to work as a community manager, and stopped working "front facing" positions, because I know one of these times I'm _not_ gonna hold back and it won't end well. So, while I commiserate that Spitz had to deal with whingy gamers (almost as insufferable as coupon-clippers) I cannot deny that someone in those positions has to rise above the provocations. Honestly, if Spitz hadn't made a name for himself with clapping back in this and other communities and had made the statements that the discord wasn't the effective place for the community to make their displeasure known more indirectly, instead of trying to dunk on people with it, he probably would've just gotten off with just a slap on the wrist. Hopefully he'll learn from this and when the abusive CMs are out he'll have proven he could be mistaken for an iceberg with how cool-headed he's become and can reassume the mantle. 💙💜
Not so much to do with Spitz as that's all online but any customer who starts verbally abusing workers for minor inconveiniences needs to be told to fuck off and not come back till they can act like an adult, if at all.

Yup, that's my take on it. His saying it only takes 2 minutes to make a PSN account, was trolling. I've encountered Moderators like this in other game communities, trolling the player base should be automatic ban for mods. Not excuse for that sort of manipulation, annoying people then banning them because they are (rightfully) annoyed.

I have to preface that I haven't been a part of the community for long, but to me no CM should be fired for doing the right thing. So if any part of the reason for Spitz's firing included them encouraging people leave negative reviews and refund during the Sony crisis, then I don't think they should have been fired. There were other things Spitz said that demonstrated a lack of professionalism during the beginning of the crisis, but they came out and said they regretted what they said. To me if you express regret and then consequently change your behavior I think you can be forgiven for your actions.

I think it's bizarre how people are helping spin the narrative that Spitz fell on his sword for the HD community. For those who were fans of the series since the first game know that Spitz has had a rather arrogant and confronting stance when dealing with people. He nuked the OG HD1 discord for a very poor reason and has had multiple instances of antagonising the community. If the CEO needs to step in to de-escalate a situation then clearly he is not doing his job as a CM. People were also review-bombing on steam long before he told people to do so - this was not his plan. I believe he wanted people to move off the discord with their complaints as it was making his job harder. This outcome is not "strange" - it is simply a consequence of not doing their job properly as being an informed CM that bridges the gap between the developer and the community that supports them.

Spitz was passionate. He even earned my respect when he said he willingly jumped on the grenade when the bombs went off to protect his team.
Spitz had a job similar to walking with one foot either side of a barbed wire fence. Yet his dedication and support for the community was like no other I have seen. He put his job on the line, sided with the community and rallied the troops. Only to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the win. Arrowhead have lost one Hell of a Helldiver today. I've seen a few complaints that Spitz didn't do it right away, and was antagonizing people "he joined in when we already had 50k dislikes!" - yeah in the first day. and in the next two days we got 300k. AFTER he apologized and for the second time said 'seriously, go refund' basically. He apologized, and sure that doesn't make up for everything but yeah. so please. tell me again how theres absolutely NO WAY what he said didn't help? If a community manager, regardless of how terrible you personally think they are - goes out and encourages people to refund and leave negative reviews - thats still going to help some people get over the "is this just blown up out of proportion?" hitch. The same hang up I had. I get it. a lot of people don't like him. great. Unfortunately, in the grand scheme of things - that means nothing. Some of you refuse to believe that a shitty person can do the right thing sometimes. If Twin beard had done it, at the same time - 50k dislikes in, you know everyone wouldn't have a problem with him because he's been the level headed one. But, Spitz did it. Some of you all didn't like him, I get it, that's your opinion. But the rest of us are also entitled to our opinions, and at least mine is - at the end of the day, I respect him for at least doing the right thing - even when the 'good' CM, devs and other members of Arrowhead, wouldn't.

Think people aren't hired on merit but instead thinks she's only been hired do to one of the statuses that are normally discriminated against. DEI is the latest buzz word of the radical right, they can't define it but if someone who could be discriminated against do to sexual prefrence or race ect ect. They automatically believe they had no merit to be hired.

There you go… another consequence to this whole PSN outburst. We’re all celebrating for “beating Sony”, yet fail to realise who gets put in the cross fire.
It is thanks to him that everyone organized and caused the change. There was no other base organized like ours, there was no other game so both new and positive in the public space. I would be willing to bet some $$ that it’s a part of the deal from Sony and their request. Wonder if there’s any plans in the future to undue the change with him gone. 💜💙 Spitz 💙💜

Regardless of intent intentional or not, asking people to initiate refunds and post negative reviews impacts company stakeholders as a whole and that therein lies the problem. I don't wish anyone to be fired, but from a business standpoint it's sometimes necessary. We also don't know if there were other problems internally, but hope Spitz lands on his feet and learns from this. 💙💜
Unfortunately it was foreseeable that he would be fired, but he still stood by the community and took responsibility for his actions. 💜💙
I wouldn't give Spitz credit for review bombing momentum. It was naturally going to happen. I also, doubt he accelerated it. Where else would one get heard? Discord and the like is like trying to hear a sneeze in a heavy metal concert. The CMs in this community are subpar.

Ironically it was Spitz who gave us the directions for the major orders against Sony
They were going to get review bombed no matter what Spitz said. It had already started happening before he said that. If anything, it would have made it harder for Arrowhead to blame Sony when their own staff is telling people to post negative reviews.

Probably any company that actually wants to earn good faith and have a community manager like him will make him an offer. They know 3 things, he is willing to admit when he is wrong, he is looking out for the community and he's well aware of the consecuences of his actions (when he said to keep review bombing and asking for refunds because it gave AH power to negotiate he knew it was gonna cost him). That's more than can be said for most

I see the topic in two ways: on the one hand, yes, he said that we should continue to do a lot of reviews, but on the other hand, he also said exactly that it was no problem to create an account in 2 minutes. So all in all, I personally find it difficult. In the end, everyone was under pressure and I can imagine that you would lose your composure, but I don't think he should emerge as the hero of this matter.

the behavior of the community always banging on the gates of Arrowhead HQ with torches and pitchforks at a lot of decisions made and just knowing how that there are countless people actively trying to start drama with the Developers and Community managers with their "im always right because im the customer" attitude im very impressed with how spitz responded, i dont see how anyone could have kept it much more professional and still show passion for his job in the face of an angry mob
