Hello... I live in India and it was very interesting for me to hear this.... In my culture we have a post partum regime that is followed where the new mother is given special nutritional bars that are home made and all have a lot of fenugreek seeds specially to increase milk production.. I always thought of this as an old wives tale so this was incredibly fascinating for me to hear....
Same here in Morocco. Post partum regimen =red onions+lentils+ fenugreek seeds + chicken (optional )
I'm 72 and fit as a fiddle. I do a variety of exercises but my bellwether is pull ups. Over the years I've gone down to 9 honest pull ups (no kipping) at a time. After several weeks of fenugreek, I was back to 10 pull ups. I soak about a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in water overnight and then add oatmeal, ground flax seed, blueberries, walnuts. and a little salt for breakfast. Was there ever a better breakfast? I also take turmeric, black cumin, pomegranate, mushroom powder, etc.--all the good things that Dr. Greger recommends. I also lowered my PSA by 1.6 points. Thank you Dr. Greger.
I would wait for proper scientific studies before mainlining any herbal supplement. In this video I see no information on what was studied, or how. Supplements like herbs can vary widely depending on how and where they are made. Fenugreek will up your estrogen so...get ready for man boobs too
💪💪💪
Absolutely beautiful. I do lots of pull-ups 10 or so and lots of pushups; these are real pushups and pushups all the way down to all the way up I am 72 I have posted a video on Facebook at age 69 of me doing 50 real pushups. Keep going
Thank for sharing
so hold on u get 9 but get 10 by using fenugreek so it only give you one more I guess that not good sorry coffee can do better than 1 rep
Detailed as always. Thank you so much!
It’s so funny that just today I was telling my husband how my armpits are smelling like maple syrup mix with cumin and then I hear the interesting fact in this video. I’ve been eating fenugreek sprouts for two days
I just started drinking fenugreek tea yesterday - only 2 teaspoons in 8oz of water for 2 days - and my daughter told me my armpits smell like syrup! Hopefully, that means it's doing its work!
Fascinating. I never heard of this but I love maple syrup scent.
What does the science say about fenugreek for breast cancer patients, given that it increases estrogen levels? Thanks.
1/3 teaspoon for 3x/day. I wonder if that dose would work for muscles also?
How is it better taken? As tea?
What about taking this for s/o who has had breast cancer??
I looked for an odor assessor job in the classifieds and on the job websites but no luck so far!
Yes you are a hero Dr Michael greger
Great information as always Dr Gregor. 👍
What are people using it in? I don’t use it in my cooking. Any suggestions?
I've grown fenugreek in my back yard. I didn't realize it but, the foliage as it grows is also common in Indian cookery It's called methi. It's a member of the pea family, and doesn't have a strong flavor at all. I believe the most well known dish with methi is Methi aloo or Aloo methi. Potatoes diced and cooked on the stovetop with the methi foliage added at some point in the cooking. It seemed a very easy crop for me to grow, especially if planted Spring, early Summer. The seed pods however are a real chore.
just went to a new Indian restaurant and they had this on the menu. Will try it next visit!!
I just love learning about health and also he has such a pleasant voice.
Pleasant? Wow, that is the first I heard that description for his city, yiddish, voice.
me too. I love the info but can't bear listening to him for very long. Reading transcripts works better for me @@birage9885
If the study on milk production involved not just fenugreek but also two other herbal supplements, we can't really determine anything about fenugreek... what were the controls? how was the study done? on how many people? in what journal was it written up? how many other studies confirmed the results?
I’m allergic to fenugreek so that sucks. I get terrible nasal congestion and sneezing. I do feel so much stronger and confident.
Exact same reactions from me and my wife + bad sleep. Great workouts, though...
How much per day should we have? Thank you doc
Why don’t you add the videos to these? I’ve seen them separately and then you put it all together just as audio. A true mystery.
Great News! I like maple syrup! 🎉🍁
What about the danger of breast cancer with increased estrogen production?
So is it good for men does it cause increase estrogen in men
In the state of Gujarat in India (don’t know about the other states), they have pickles made with fenugreek seeds. It does not have the bitter taste normally encountered with fenugreek seeds. Also, at the end of some of the curry dishes (in many states), they add fenugreek leaves in the curries for flavor and for good presentation.
Thanks
Am I wrong to have avoided 0licorice, fennel and fenugreek to prevent raising blood pressure.
Have been using fenugreek for couples of months, the odor part is true. About 5 months in now I don't smell it anymore (not sure when it stopped)
Yes, I think the syrup smells subsides after a couple of months.
you got used to it
Nose blind at this point.
Can you add a tsp of Fenugreek powder to your oatmeal for good affect?
That's what I do but I blend it first to break up the seeds.
awesome
What are the effects of Fenugreek on tumours?
"Odor assessors". I hope it's a well paid job.
Yes I don’t want it. “Musty sweet onion socks”
Can anyone comment on dosing? The podcast mentions a tablespoon of seeds but when I look online the capsules are huge and recommend 4/day. Are most people taking capsules or seeds?
Was taking 3 - 610mg of it a day. So close to 2000mg day.
I take /4 twice a day and it is VILE. do yourself a favor and get the capsules
I eat fenugreek sprouts all the time! No wonder why my husband called me Aunt Jemima.
Can anyone tell me what a table spoon is in America? In the UK it's a large serving spoon, but I suspect in the state's it's different.
One tablespoon equals 15mL.
And 15 mg. A teaspoon=5mg or 5ml
@@charlsalash our dessert spoon I think
@@maiqueashworth I just googled it and a table spoon is the same in the US and the UK, 15 ml
Where do you think imperial measurements came from. LOL.
thank you for sharing
Just like flax seed rich in estrogen so is fenugreek but body make estrogen is much stronger than plant bass and it actually may prevent breast cancer because instead of body strong estrogen receptor will get plant weak estrogen . Plus it may help osteoporosis in menopause woman who lack estrogen . Like soy milk rich in plant estrogen is recommended for osteoporosis. But soy had been studied so u have info.
If it increases estrogen it would'nt raise testosterone, can't do both.
💚💛❤
Dear Doctor, I respectfully request that you answer me this: fenugreek as you may know is a staple spice in Indian cuisine. In fact, not just the ground seed is used, but the foliage of the plant, a member of the pea family, as well. The foliage is called 'methi' and can be found in a dish with boiled potatoes called 'methi aloo.' My question is of course, whether methi leaves may have the same effect as the seed, albeit probably of lesser potency.
Whos using it? 👋🏼
Now where the heck can I buy Fenugreek ???
Indian grocers, Asian markets with Indian products, some supermarkets with a good range of Indian spices
Knowledge is not power unless it is applied.
True, the difference between people is in applying what they know, if you can apply what you know, you're a lucky
But when time comes you can use knowledge but without knowledge u depend on big farma
You already did this gregor…
Twice
Well I’m like the boring assessor…my all appartement, myself included, smells like a Fenugreek factory…my girlfriend still waiting for the maple syrup…
I remain muscular and strong at 78 as a result of taking 50 grams of fenugreek every day for over 25 years..
Eew odor assessor
That r e a l l y puts me off maple syrup 🤢
*_Don't ingest fenugreek if you have prostate cancer._* One of the primary goals of prostate cancer treatment is to reduce testosterone as much as possible.
Yeah reducing testosterone is the exact opposite of what you want to do. You want to reduce dehydro testosterone but not free testosterone. Which is an estrogen problem and not a testosterone problem
so says CDC. take it or leave it these days.
fake news nothing like that fake news
No clinical side effects? Ehh .. not true if you are also on SSRI’s .. which many many Americans in this day and age are. Serotonin Syndrome from the concurrent use of SSRI’s and Fenugreek is well documented at some of the research hospitals in the US, and the concurrent use of Fenugreek while on SSRI medication is contraindicated in their research papers. You supposed ‘M.D.’s’ need to be really careful publishing this kind of information on social media sites like KZhead. I don’t need to tell you ‘Dr.’ Serotonin Syndrome can be fatal in some people.
He doesnt read the comments so unfollow..either that or he isnt that smart

These videos are put out on certain dates and were recorded quite some time ago if he still does that. He said something along those lines in a video i watched.
