  • Harleys are magical machines. My trick involved a kid in a Jeep running a red light and t-boning me on my Road King. I flew through the air. Then a few minutes later my assistance/assistants arrived and I levitated into the back of an ambulance. After that my totalled bike was loaded onto a platform on the back of a truck- never to be seen again. Then a masked magician took ligaments out of a volunteer and put them in my knee. All without any body doubles. Hopefully there won't be a repeat performance.

If I take Copperfield's Shadowbox Motorcycle Appearance as an exemple it shows us that he use some subtility to show that nothing is hidden behind the back pannel by seeing the light rays of the assistant lamps through it. As Jim Steinmeyer stated in "Device & Illusions", an illusion will never be perfekt. To get close to perfection you need to lead the audience thoughts to the point that there's NO possiblity to do so and this is by leading them away from the method you use as far as possible.

  • You're completely right. If I take Copperfield's Shadowbox Motorcycle Appearance as an exemple it shows us that he use some subtility to show that nothing is hidden behind the back pannel by seeing the light rays of the assistant lamps through it.     • It helps when the guy you're imitating wears a mask. This wouldn't be as easy for a highly recognizable magician like David Copperfield or Criss Angel.

    • Nope, they usually wear a motorcycle helmet. Check Copperfield's version for example.

    • That was the whole point behind the show, the magician behind the mask was sick of the same old tricks being used so he revealed them forcing magicians to develop new tricks rather then rely on the old ones.

  • The switcheroo is a bit more obvious than others, becoz the hand of the double appears a bit too early. However, this is something that you might not spot the first time, and with the rule of 'never repeat the same trick in front of the same audience', you won't get to see it again.

  • Why swap with the double behind the curtain ???? The magician could do everything himself, followed by the double walking on at the end. Or the double could do everything with the magician walking on at the end. No need to risk being seen swapping behind the curtain.

    • Then how would he come down from the contraption to reveal himself if he did it all himself? Even if he had some sort of thing to slide down from then he'd still have to rush to hide and get in place to reveal himself. I'd bet that is more of a chance of revealing himself.

    • @Barry Your version only works for the Masked Magician. If any recognizable person tried it, you'd need an exact double because the double would be in plain view of the audience at the end. With the version in the video, the double wears a helmet to ride the bike, so you can't tell it's a different person. Then the famous magician walks onto the stage to end the trick.
