  • I spent the first 25 years of childhood in Adair County and Ames, Iowa. The last 76 have been in Texas. You do a remarkable job making driving around amid corn fields interesting. Your dog may be the attraction, because it sure isn't hog livers. Before Eisenhower's interstate highways, trucks followed the two-lane north-and-south roads through all the small towns, and that kept the drivers busier than today.

  • Kurt, you’re lucky with me. I threw my television out the window about six years ago. I don’t watch that nonsense. I just watch what’s on my phone and the channels I subscribe to keep the videos coming. You and Opie stay safe out there.👍👍👍

  • The 4 seasons. Winter. More winter. Hot as heck. And road construction. You know it's bad when you get a detour on the detour that you were detoured on only to find the detour is closed too.

    • Happens to me all the time oh! And don’t forget one of those detours will have a low bridge or narrow bridge too.

    • @@jimmycagnee65 I was sent on a detour because of a fire once. The cop was sending everyone down this little road. About a half mile down I came across a little bridge with a 6 ton limit. Took several hours to back out after all the cars behind me was turned around and gone. The cop apologized several times. I left the scale at 102,000 lbs. My permit was up to 103,000.

  • $35.00. For Semi trucks to cross the Mackinac Bridge. Of course you could avoid the toll coming up on the Wisconsin side, which IMO is a much better view, the Michigan side is incredibly Boring unless you run through Charlevoix, otherwise it’s a snooze 💤 all the way to Mackinaw City. Also grab a Shower, there are no Truckstop’s with Showers up there. There’s no MAIN-LINE Truckstop’s at all. Heads up. FYI.

  • I have friends who crossed the Macinac (you are correct with the pronunciation - good job! it's north of Traverse City going up to Sault (pronounced "sue") St. Marie, MI.) on a rainy day on a motorcycle! Thank goodness a kind driver of an 18 wheeler stayed behind them across both lanes because the wind was sweeping them across both lanes all the way across. It's a great bridge. You can see the water through a least some of it.

  • We just tore out a big blasting system out of a Quarry north of the Mackinac Bridge you are talking about in Michigan. There was construction on the bridge and the oversize loads have to give 24 hours notice, and they get escorted over the bridge in one time slot per day. Two of ours came back through Menomonie, Wisconsin. Every year, there is a farm tractor drive over the bridge that I want to do before I kick the bucket.
