    • It's a "she" . Female gibbons are blond while male gibbons in most species are black. They are probably couples. Gibbons like Humans often mate for life. They also shows affection like Humans do .

    • nymph absolutely!! The majority of videos you will find on KZhead that involve gibbons (or other primates for that matter) and a human male in his age range involve either teasing of the animal or all the way up to outright abuse!!

    • @@PrimateProductions I haven't seen that with gibbons. They are mostly treated well from the dozens of videos I've seen. Long tailed and pig tailed macaques are a different story, as they aren't endangered, are MUCH more ill tempered, and are breeding like rats in some areas.

      @HighlanderNorth1@HighlanderNorth13 жыл бұрын
    • @@HighlanderNorth1 you may not have seen it very often on videos but they get mistreated and abused by people as frequently as macaques do. Now you won't see quite as many gibbons as they are a little less common than macaques but the thing is if you do see a gibbon in the hands of a human they are just as likely to be abused as a macaque is. The majority of people there, especially the ones that you are more likely to see in possession of a monkey or gibbon, does not care at all how rare or endangered they are!

    • @@PrimateProductions That sucks, because although I'm not an expert on monkeys, from what I've seen, gibbons seem to be SO much more intelligent, warm and tolerant of other monkeys than macaques. It's hard to find a truly negative trait in gibbons. I can't say that with "some" of the most common macaque species, like long tailed, pig tailed etc. There are a few less common macaque species that seem to have less negative social traits than long tails and pig tails do.

  • There's a lot of arguing in the comments about the colors and gender significance, with some claiming the males are black and females are tan, and others saying both genders can be either color, and both sides accusing the other of misinformation. The fact is when speaking of gibbons as a whole, neither side is incorrect -- it just depends on the species. For example, in Lar Gibbons, adult males and females can be either color, but in white cheeked gibbons, adult males are black and adult females are tan. I'm no expert on Gibbon identification, but based on simple google image search, these gibbons look to me more like lar gibbons than white cheeked gibbons, leaning me to tentatively conclude that it is possible that the black one could be mom and the tan one could be child, rather than black one being husband and tan one being wife. However, I just wanted to clear up the color/gender confusion issue I observed in other comments.

    @mchevre@mchevre Жыл бұрын
    • Thank you for posting this. I always suspected the color differences depended on species, but it’s nice to finally see it in writing. Your mother/child theory also makes a lot of sense considering how much smaller the tan gibbon is.

Some gibbons such as the siamang, the fathers do contribute to care but in white handed or lar gibbons like these in the video it would be pretty rare that the young one would cling to the dad the way it is. Some types of gibbons the males are dark colored and the females light colored. All babies are born light colored and then if males they will change to dark colored as they mature however for this type of gibbons males or females can be either dark or light colored ...their color has no bearing on their sex and their offspring color will develop depending on the dominant genes as they mature.
