Mogyer Confederation in 867 is gonna be my go-to first run. You get a unique mission to that lets you migrate into the region of Hungary (founding the nation) and there's lots of early cultural and religious tensions. Was my favorite start in vanilla and I imagine the new culture systems are going to really improve the experience.
No tribal court mate
@@ivartheboneless5969 Feudal catholic Hungarian then?
Fucked that was my same idea, beside I wanted to do the Almost There achievement
As a Hungarian I greet your choice! And glad for this game to shed some light on us :)
@@mortache Will I get the court if I adopt feudalism but keep my religion?
Seeing Jorvik get mentioned is giving me flashbacks to my very first games of CK3. Since I'm a Yorkshireman myself and it was one of the easier recommended starts, I jumped straight in to play as Halfdan. Everything went fine and I was making plans to found a Norse England... until Halfdan died and I first learned exactly what the phrase "Confederate Partition" truly meant. Remembering the old advice from CK2, I started a fresh game in Ireland to find my feet (which, sure enough, was far more successful), and haven't actually touched Jorvik since. Perhaps it's finally time to give old Whiteshirt another chance...
Sorry for your pain but your story about leaning what "confederate partition truly meant" is priceless (and very accurate for *many* CK3 players haha).
Halfdan is super strong, but I will always recommend Bjorn. He's a bit slow and steady compared to his brothers, but when he gets going he's a freight train
I cant not hear "tea" after the word Yorkshire lol
As an Indian, I must congratulate you on those pronunciations. Not just in this video, but in many others too. It's such a delight (and a surprise honestly) when I hear you say these words which often aren't easy for a non native speaker. So just wanna let you know that the effort is really appreciated. And as always great work on the video too. Cheers! EDIT: Also really loved your Forging India series in Humankind. And the culture videos for Bronze Age and Classical Age are just *chef's kiss*.
a real surprise when someone who doesn't sound or look like you ends up having a lot of similarities to you, huh? almost like the saying 'dont judge a book by its cover' has meaning. try taking a hard look in the mirror.
@@brucebanner5247 No need to be hostile. He was just saying Elite did his homework and pronounced some things right. I know for a fact, even if he told me how to say it, I struggle with anything not called English or French.
It looks like Jorvik will make the most of all the DLC - both Northern Lords and Royal Court. I'm sure I'm not the only player who has been playing vanilla CK3 until now and just bought the expansion pass.
Jorvik needs to become king first, but with negotiate danelaw that won't be the worst
I like the Welsh start, you are just one territory and some gold away from becoming King of Wales (have a claim on Ceredigion at the start, wirh a massive comparative army). It allows you to have a Brythonic court very early. The only drawback is the very low development of the Welsh lands.
I really enjoy the Welsh start as well.
I really like these interesting starts videos that you do. All your content is great, keep it up.
I'm kinda disappointed that having a court seems so limited. When I first heard about the DLC, I expected you could see even a tribal court. Or a small hall for a small count. Still, I'm very excited for this because of everything new that adds to the immersion of this game!
Its Paradox, wait a year and you will probably starting see them. Day 1 though, most of their stuff feels like its missing half its content.
I do wish that Tribal Courts existed especially. I don't mind petty lords not having them, since I understand they're trying to make King/Emperor tiers stand out, but it's weird to exclude tribal courts, for sure.
@@PartyElite atleast going forward now(?) we'll get steppe nomad and tribal and theocratic/plutocratic unqiue court types when those gov. forms get their dlcs.
I think a reason against minor courts may have been performance? This is just speculation though.
you has to be king og emperor.. thats a hugh let down! i never plays as king, then the game is way to easy and you get like 50000gold endless of prestige etc count level is fun to support the king... for the king and country
Great recommendations, thanks! It's so hard to pick a good start that I end up actually sticking out for the long run and this gave me some ideas for sure. Came for CK3 content but subbed for the other niche content on the rest of your channel
I can imagine the Magyar start would be fun with these culture mechanics
Hyped for more playthoughs on your channel
Same!
Thanks for showing Makuria. its my favourite nation to play, ever since CK2 days. Between Coptic and Nubian traditions it looks like it will do well with multi-cultural, multi-religious vassals. And good to see they finally get their bowmen and the their more matriarchal side (even though in reality it was more a sister-son style of inheritance.)
Makuria has such a rich history and unique position in terms of religion and culture. Great to see it mentioned. Infact, Kings and Generals did a great video on its history.
So glad you made this video! I need to choose a new ruler after not playing for months and I'm overwhelmed by the choice. Thank you very much.
Butr them up... Butr them up?! Goshdangit, PE. You got me.
Haha was pleased with that one ngl
So close to 200k. Keep goin party
As usual some very good suggestions to try
I really like the effort you went to with pronunciations, is that a new thing? Either way, I dig it!
I always try! Sometimes I fail haha
@@PartyElite it was very cool to hear you suddenly pronounce Pallava. I'm not sure if the name is Hindi or Tamil, but your pronunciation is very close for a name which uses sounds that don't exist in English (as another non speaker, albeit one who has heard more Hindi and Tamil than 99% of other Americans) My mom is a very religious Hindu so I grew up around a lot of Hindi and Tamil speaking adults.
@@gockroach431 South Indian sounds are definitely harder for me, so I'm glad it was recognizably close haha. I've not been exposed to them as much as others, so I don't have as much to go on.
Another amazing Job PE...
Thanks!
I plan to start as a one county count and go to war to form the kingdom of switzerland. Then create the Swiss culture. And from there, play tall. Eventually leave the HRE completely, and have few alliances - neutrality. Similar to a Bohemia play tall but having to create the culture from nothing.
That sounds like it would be a fun game with a Habsburg…
Sounds fun as hell! I love 'count' starts myself, but thought I'd focus on starts that are a bit closer to the courts for this video more often than not. Making your own culture / raising a new culture up from nothing is such a cool feeling, too. I'd love to know how that Swiss game goes, and I might try it myself!
Is that actually something you can do in the game with the DLC?! OMG there is SO MUCH that I am going to find that I want to do in CK3 now! I need a machine that freezes time from passing so I can do all the things I am going to find to do! I guess a clone might be helpful too, then it can do the less fun things so I have more time for the fun things! lol
You should do another one of these!
I did a game as Count of Tmurtakan in 1066, in that start date the count is of russian culture. I hybridized russian and cuman, forming a "cossack culture" a few centuries early. After building an independent kingdom in the area, I offered my vassalage to the Byzantines so as to have an easy time conquering the greek bits of Crimea. Hybridizing (and also gaining independence) again, I finally arrived at a Slavic-Turkic-Greek Empire in Crimea, complete with Druzhnina, Horse archers and Cataphracts
hell yeah
"Let's talk about the Makurian candidate" I see what you did there XD
"Jorvik has always been ... a little easy" 😬 Tell that to the Game Over screen I just got in my first Royal Court run. I had formed the Danelaw as Halfdan's son, but just never had enough cash or fame to do much else. My 3rd gen character was inept, so kin from the north and east smelled blood I'm the water. A war for the dynasty banner ended me. Still had fun, and I'm considering just starting a 2nd attempt, with more ruthless approach to grooming/choosing my heirs.
Makurian Candidate. Well done 😉 Thanks for the vid.
Makurian Candidate lol. good one
867 establishing the Normans through Rolo has always been one of my favorites to do. Not being available until you give him land as another character is always tricky, not to mention getting the manpower to take on west Francia even AFTER the split happens. Then from there the options are almost endless; bend the knee to France, convert or don’t, go north and take all of England for the Norse. So much fun!
Whoa I didn't realize you could even find Rollo in 867
What were is rolo?
@@maxwhoelse3858 He's an unlanded character I believe
Bohemia after the construction of Kutná Hora mine is great too. You become literally unstoppable.
14:40 I will have to politely disagree here! Counties of foreign culture often don't pay full taxes and/or cause other problems that take up money. Having your Steward converting culture DOES take some time but I have found more recently that it often is better in the long run than just having him focus on bring in money directly! Now that I think about it more I think it actually causes Control issues which can cause tax issues so it's not a DIRECT issue to money but converting the areas under your influence to your culture and/or religion make gaining control MUCH easier! It's never financially good to have to repeatedly squash peasants due to uprisings, and I've had them snowball a couple of times as well!
I'll have to redo my maths! Never felt worth the trouble, but I'm always down to reevaluate
Counterargument: the best thing to do with your steward is to build up development in your capital all game and hybridize cultures often to beeline the economic innovations. Doesn't matter that the other parts of your realm don't give full taxes if your direct holdings give you insane amounts of cash
@@fryenchill2817 True! I will admit that this was before I got into Royal Court too much and discovered the beauty that is Hybrid Culturalization! Also, different culture doesn't DIRECTLY cause issues but it DOES sometimes cause control issues, and THOSE do cause money and levy issues as well as just sucking lol. I believe I came back and said this later in my OP(not sure how much later I put it there so some might have missed it). I also wasn't trying to say either way is right or wrong just saying that there are different ways to play the game and they can all work. Then different people will play different ways too, that's fine! I probably go too money focused with my building, I have tried to go a little more into other things to boost levies and soldiers as well. While money focused though I don't often use my Steward for collecting taxes, which is strange now that I think about it!
I am a Telugu person from Telangana state and it's funny, how you pronounce Indian names. But still Kudus to you for having all this knowledge and proving amazing videos :)
8:30 SO what you're saying is that smooching you're liege's hindquarters is actually beneficial now! Damn it, now if I am Catholic I am going to have to find a balance between kissing up to the Pope and my liege!!! This DLC sounds like it adds SO MUCH to the game though! I am SUPER excited for it to officially release TOMORROW!!! I've been really wanting to try to do some big thing in the game but have avoided it because the DLC has been so close, it's been a LONG couple of weeks!
I did my first run with sardinia. It doesn't start a king but you can very quickly (about 10 years) form one under the HRE and enjoy the political fuster cluck that is the empire's politics. Really chill game, very rich but small kingdom, and you can easily engage in crusades around the mediteranian.
Playing as Makuria, I was unable to claim the High Chieftancy of Alodia at the 1067 start. The option wasn't in the list of options. I only had the standard options to claim a county, but I had to have a claim first (I didn't). Was this changed at launch, or do I have a bug?
That last one could be cool if you can take out Byz Empire and Papacy w it, or redo yr North Sea Kingdom Papacy Takeout try from that English Norse area forward. Am just really mad we failed to undo Papacy by inches that time. Also A Mahayana Buddhist empire anywhere would rule imho.
"Right off the bat!"
Love Crusader Kings 3 it's super fun
i wonder if Count Haestien would be a good pick too, he starts feudal, might have opportunity to make norse-french culture and such
Oh yeah - always a good time, that one.
An Israelite Kingdom would make for an interesting playthrough from you!
Well this certainly Butr'ed me up
last time what i did is create norman and then stay small with 2 duchy with title succession. playing tall and keep my culture maxed. what about now? is it viable playing tall?
I've the Royal Court DLC and i have a kingdom (feudal) but i still don't have the royal court option. What do i have to do?
After Court dropped, I started a campaign as a count in Fars, in Persia. Made it to emperor by the end of my third life. The Persian culture and court options are amazing. With scholarly court, you can shoot down the scholar tree quickly, getting huge bonuses to any other lifestyle you want to do. The location is also great, too, because you get marriage options in India, the Arabs, and eventually Europe and Asia. You can expand in virtually every direction and really become the center of the world quickly. And Ashari lets you invade kingdom and holy war on kingdoms, so you can expand quickly.
I can see "right off the bat" is by far your fav expression with 3 uses by minute 3. Can I suggest using other alternatives? ;)
I legit didn't even realize while writing lmao. Gonna have to switch it up next time
Quite rate to get Burma/Pagan mentioned. Hope in future, even with community flavour pack, they get settings right. This is not how Pagan Burmese people wore clothings. It's more similar to Khmer style.
I already played as the Pagan King without Royal Court and it was so much fun. Can't wait to see how it feels like with the DLC, you hyped me to try that again! Edit: Also, another plus for that start is the ease to have powerful allies. In sri lanka there's a kingdom with about 10k troops at the start date with the same religion that can help you with initial wars.
How do you use your vassals to convert culture? Is it something that just passively happens or is there some mechanic to it?
So the numbers/factors might have been tweaked with this latest update but if I recall correctly it needs to be a: Duke-level vassal With 150+ gold Adjacent to the desired culture (coastal adjacency counts) It's not a bad idea to convert their capital yourself so they don't adopt their capitals culture instead. It's a slow process either way!
You can play Royal Court with the Northmen?, thanks a lot
Do we get new crowns in the DLC? I don't remember the Pagan crown.
Catholic Spaniards for me. They start as kings which is nice for the court, they have a somewhat challenging position with a reconquista ahead of them and being right on the edge of religions and cultures I think that could interact nicely with royal court.
867 or 1066?! There are... other "concerns" depending on which one you do, lots of possible murder and... well... QUESTIONABLE choices of "partners"! Side note: However I DO want to try a start as the Jimena Sister and try to "push" all her brothers to the side, except MAYBE the one she is um... a little too close too we'll say!
@@JacksonOwex 867 in my case, pretty straightforward start as king scenario and reconquer Iberia. Whatever you are talking about sounds ten times better though, lol!
Play as Alfred the great his brother always dies in a hunting accident giving u Wessex from the jump basically
Haesting is still a great start. I was able to get to India and create a Sinhalese Norse culture in Sri Lanka in one game, a Greco Norse culture in Sicily in another, and Italo Norse culture in my last game. You have a lot of options.
Yeah he's one of the great adventurer starts for sure. I've mentioned him in a prior video - he starts super strong, and I believe he's kept alive longer than usual too!
I tried to continue my game from before the patch. A lot of values were set to zero, like armies, renown, prestige, control of _all_ provinces, etc. Then everybody started dying, because health for a lot of characters appearently as well xD Edit: minor spelling mistake
rip
I had fun creating an Indo-Afghan kingdom with the Shahi Afghans and I also greatly enjoyed playing in the Alps, merging German, French, and Italian
Those both sound fun. Been thinking about a Switzerland creation run too.
I thought I'd try Tmutarakan after watching this video. I think my skill is not high enough yet! (Just got the game late last year.) The Khagan formed Azov and transferred me to being a vassal of the new chief, but I wasn't able to amass enough power to resist when he demanded I convert and tried to revoke my title when I refused. (Yeah, I could have accepted, but where's the fun in that?)
I overcame this first obstacle by making sure my knight were elite. Make sure you marry every unmarried woman in court and take as many knights with high prowess as possible. Also, keep recruiting knights when possible. Go down the gallant tree for maximum effectiveness. Four points in this tree will make your knights hard-hitters: +75% effectiveness and 4 more knights.
My fav start is the Armenian/georgian Duke. Try it out guys!
does anyone know if african governments can get royal court? i’m on a run starting as daurama in africa, so if i adopt the feudal ways can i get a royal court?
I really want to try the DLC but.. 30 euro dont seem fair price to me for the content it adds !
I started out as the tmutarakan, but struggle a lot. Winning wars is not too hard if you are patient, but everything around me is tribal. Meaning that I can only hold duchy titles with vassals running the tribal hordes, or that I need to invest a hefty 500 gold/county. Am I missing something, does this make expansion nigh impossible?
Try putting vassals with sinful traits into those tribal counties. You have to wait for them to feudalize them for you, which often takes a long time as they tend to squander away their prestige. Once they do finally feudalize the county just condemn them for their sins and revoke the titles to avoid tyranny. Also sometimes the first vassal dies before it feudalizes. Just educate the heir and make sure they get a sinful trait. It's a slow start but it's a lot of fun once you get going. Also just convert to the Khazar Jewish faith and you'll have two holy sites right by you when you make your own religion.
Bagan Kingdom is from Myanmar. Thanks for taking interest in my country. Fun Fact CK3 got it wrong on the clothing they didn't wear like Indians or looked India. They are South East Asians and have their own rich Burmese Buddhist culture
A Daneland run as Jorvik is always fun, but a Anglo-Norse Daneland with royal court is even better!
its free? how do i install it
I am having a blast trying to unify Ireland in the 9th century AD :).
I think the update as a whole will be good but i feel the free update will be the best part. The court is cute but i don't think it will add much compared to the new cultures.
I'm 99% sure that Hybridization and Divergence are DLC features. So while the culture overhaul is coming to the base game, and it is fun, some of the more fun tools and toys are in the DLC specifically. Again, only 99% sure - so there's that 1% uncertainty lol
Is the country of Tmutarakan new? I thought the only Israelite start was in West Africa.
I think I want to try Ivar the boneless and see if I can make a nors/celtic hybrid culture adopt insular christianity and become king of Scotland.
i got the mod that lets dukes have a royal court, problem solved!
Youll never notice the DLC since its the parts everyone skips
Is Pagan better than the duke that holds Dagon now? That particular start was my CK training wheels when CK3 came out; it was so much easier to learn the mechanics there than in Ireland because you're tucked into the corner of the map, you have diplomatic access to India, and you don't need to deal with the all the nonsense that the Christian nations have when they want to fight eachother.
as burmese , can you change to Christianity or arabic with ok ease?
do a wold conquest plese pe
Dukes do not have a court?
Correct. You get some of the court positions, but no court to display artefacts or manage grandeur. That's only for Kings and Emperors
This video should be titled "How many times can you say 'Right off the bat'?"...
Where is planet zoo European Pack coverage and EZS PE
I dont believe you didn't mention haesting
I've mentioned him in previous videos and I try my best to pick as few as possible from the ones the game recommends =)
Where is Workers and resources:Soviet republic?
Hoping to be back either this Sunday or next Wednesday. Crazy start to the year is almost over!
I humbly recommend going for an independent kingdom and culture of Bihar in 867. Start as a duke under the Bengali kingdom, fabricate a claim on the OP Nalanda University and then the OP temple of Bodh Gaya. Reform your culture from Bengali, make the university your capital, and start taking over all the dejure lands for the Bihari kingdom while playing tall. Before long, it will be laughably easy to go independent and usurp Bihar, due to the Bengali kingdom having two sons and partition. Most times your new liege will only have 1 county completely outside the dejure lands of Bihar. Religious reformation is easy due to nearby sites, two of which being inside Bihar. Boom, an independent kingdom, culture, religion, in floodplains, agrarian, with two prebuilt special structures and a 3rd slot within the kingdom. Small enough to max out court expectation bonuses, large and rich enough to become invincible before 1000ad.
This sounds fun! I did a Bengal run when the game first came out and had a blast in the region. Might be time to revisit and do a Bihari run!
Hey party! Gonna recommend a game seeing as you read everyone’s comments! Play people playground (warning: gory)!!
Will look it up!
Royal shouild be at least 10 euro
Pgaan..
I recommend 867 ungvar and creating White Croatian kingdom/culture
Sad times for Tribal players
theyll get over it or be assimilated.
French here "chanson de geste" doesn't mean anything... it's like "song of gesture". Wtf ?
It's Old French, so "geste" here means "deed" or "exploit". So it's "song of deeds" or "song of exploits". It was a type of narrative from the late 11th century, if I recall correctly.
Makuria is sadly bugged. The male-dominated religion and the warrior queens tradition contradict each other, so while women can inherit just fine, you can't give them titles, and the tooltip is buggy. Which isn't great, when you start in 867 with 13/5 holdings and one daughter.
Very easy to reform their religion and change that
