With so many disastrous launches, you'd think people would stop complaining when a developer wants to make sure the game releases properly. Apparently not.
Exactly, people complain when a game is unfinished, but then people also complain when a game is delayed for extra polishing smh
I assume people have started complaining about delays because popular delays haven't done anything to prevent the launches from being absolute disasters, so I can't exactly blame them, but delays do help most developers. Plus, those delays probably prevented the releases from being way worse.. If delays were given an indefinite amount of time, it'd probably be better off for the developers and players, developers probably need more time than they're given (extra note, people who are excited for the game may also be upset or skeptical)
I mean, thats fair, but dont announce a game like 8 years before you release it, like i get wanting it to be good but announce it when youre gearing up to release, not while youre still modeling the world and vehicles without textures.
idk, i feel like the general vibe is more "god damn it, this is looking like another disaster with a million delays" rather than people complaining about it getting delayed. That my personal take, I really dont like what i have been seeing. That bit where they drive around the city in a 4c straight up looks a bit worst than asseto corsa mods -_-. Not the mention the feature list, they took out all the unique bits that made a TDU game, a tdu game. Like, cool, focus on exploration and building a car collection.... so forza horizon..... crew..... nfs.... like what is the unique thing it has. Forza horizons unique is the vibe and amount of actual car collecting, crew car switching and upgrade mechanics, nfs is also a good arcade street racer. What is solar crown. Forza with 1/5th the car list and graphics worst than asseto corsa with a couple of mods?
Well yeah, we'd rather have it now, utterly broken and unplayable, and begin the cycle of grief asap, rather than give them more to release it, for it to still be broken and unplayable. ARK: Survival Evolved 2 was supposed to be finished and OUT 2 years ago....we only just got the re-release of ARK 1, broken and unfinished, so unfished its in the same state the original was, in early access, 10 years ago. AND we're having to buy the exact same DLCs all over again. Games in general are a fucking joke nowadays

Always online will hurt, but I'm honestly still sad there won't be houses day 1. It was a huge part of TDU's identity and It was a great progression system.
yes, no houses at launch is a very bad sign, houses are a core part of the TDU experience and they are shelving those for later
They seriously dropped the ball with that one. its literally just a copy of any of the shops already in the game. its just random "instances" to the hotel interiors. the only problem I see is if they are have a issue optimizing the game. hence the lack of even partial effects
Here's my list: 1. Fanatec/Thrustmaster/Moza support. 2. FFB granularity/Fidelity. 3. Rumble Shakers (layered audio pipeline, very important) 4. Make the city feel alive (not like covid Forza) 5. Telemetry Take advantage of what other series lack, e.g. cozy chill drives, a world that looks ALIVE, and don't give out cars too easily (Forza), but not too harsh either (The Crew), push the map size to it's limit (I cruised The Crew map in under 15mins). This can be the racing streamers home if done right, so much content to pull from.
Wheel support should be mandatory, without wheel or VR I lose a lot of interest in a racing game

One of the Test drive's signatures is the variation of each car's speed O meter I want them to bring that awesome detail back. and of course don't forget the concept cars like in the first game!

I think the community as a whole and specific creators like yourself need to really stress the fact that always online is not something we want for this game. Online can be a tonne of fun in these games but there are countless reasons why being able to play disconnected is important. Especially when you consider the overall lifespan of the game.
Online should be an option period.
Show them with your wallet. Don't buy always online DRM garbage.
Thanks Theo for voicing your opinion about "Always Online" games. I didn't get to play The Crew back when it was released, and by the time I had the chance, I can't anymore. Keep loud about game preservation because I'm very sure the developer of these game were passionate so it's should be up to us to keep those hard work being played for as long as possible when the Official Servers are dead, even though the developer very much had the ability to make them run offline but well ig it's really up to us now
No offline, no buy for me, basically. I loved the first Test Drive Unlimited, I enjoyed the second Test Drive Unlimited despite the major bugs that the XBox 360 version had at launch (which I couldn't patch for a few years due to not having an Internet connection for the console), and I would love to buy a third Test Drive Unlimited game but only if it still had offline single player mode. I have no interest in either multiplayer or being forced online, which is the same reason why I never bought any of the Crew games (and I'm glad I didn't bend on my always-online game boycott considering that the first The Crew game was just Thanos-snapped out of existence).
I agree with that.The The problem is that it will not only be always online, but the races at least will only be playable in multiplayer. Some other things you will apparently be able to do on your own. That's enough for me not to buy the game.
Gamers: Lets sue a company because its always online CEOs: The community wants always online games!
An always online game means a few things. 1. The game's lifespan would be limited cause running an always online game requires resources to run the servers round the clock and maintaining them, that could be done by having microtransactions in the game or some form of paid content. 2. Once the game reaches the end of it's life and the servers are shut down, it depends on the game's code itself, if it allows for unofficial offline patches to be implemented, which is highly unlikely but not impossible (this opinion might change if the community is able to revive the original "The crew" like what was done to NFS world). 3. Be prepared for server side issues (being down for maintenance, various connectivity issues and whatnot). 4. Always online means very minimal mod support if any. Keep in mind that both TDU 1 & 2 have a pretty good modding scene till this day. Personally I don't think racing games in general need to be always online, some sort of offline mode should be there, but hey, what do i know? I'm no game developer.
Another factor, people who live in areas with spotty Internet are essentially just unable to play an always online game. Personally, I often just don't want to see or deal with other players ruining my immersion. I love online when I want it. I don't always want it.
In that case, Imagine paying upwards of $60 on a game, then downloading the game for hours, just to find out it's just a digital paperweight that takes up hard drive space cause you basically can't get past the "please wait, connecting" screen, yikes.
Keeping my expectations waaaaaaaay low here. I am excited this is coming, dont get me wrong… but I’m really having my doubts about the devs nailing that quintessential TDU experience. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst!!! I really want to be proven wrong!!!

@@TheMajorLeagueGinger In games la GT it's intentional to create that sim racing experience I think but in games like these it doesn't work at all. On top of this the car feels really stiff and looks like it glides on the road, not reacting to it, doesn't really look to well tbh. I hope it's indeed an early build and they are still working on the mechanics.
im really excited as ive been a fan of TD since like 3 or 4 years old and it was the first game that got me into cars but i'd be careful in pre-ordering the game due to the recent events with many racing games that just didnt deliver

I hope that the game has a hangout Bars and other lifestyle perks. Where you can meet more people and ask to race with them.. talk about life and the game. etc etc.. it makes the game more interesting and fun. Also a Clan and guild system.. And lots of competitions to win against guilds. Lots of carssssssss also and models like FH5
This is one of the most mysterious game releases I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe they’re just taking their time, but it’s weird to see how reluctant they are to share much information or footage about it. Still excited nonetheless! Really hoping it’s gonna be good!
They released like 5 ingame trailers, and revealed like 50 cars already.
They share infos with the community every month almost, or every 2-3 months depending on the period. Do you know games that actually shared as much info before release?
If TDU SC lives up to its predecessors of TDU and TDU2, the delay is worth the wait in my book.

i grew up on TDU2 on my 360 and nfs shift 1 both great games i lost my TDU2 disk shift has been gone for years now when i saw solar crown on my steam feed i was crying out of happiness because its been so long

Why cant tdu sc just make it so if it detects servers being offline it will auto disconnect you and will send you to offline mode.

I’m personally okay with it taking longer or being delayed because at least it will be better at launch… Most games I feel like are coming out half finished or needing at least 6 months to a year before it should release…. Dakar Desert Rally is a great example of this with it being pretty broken & missing stuff they showed in Trailers I agree with you on it releasing this year especially as you mentioned GTA 6 coming, I just hope it comes out good because another racing game in a new location would be so fun!! I wish i could go back to my day when a console had 4 controllers and we HAD to get together to play games but thats where we are. Transparency that they give is better than anything the devs of crew has done.

If only they stuck with the Unlimited type of gameplay and activities, and gave us Hawaii and Ibiza map options as well, but instead they went down the Forza Horizon road, which every racing game these days is going for, I hoped for something different, but nah. Too bad, Test Drive was one of my favorite series, especially Unlimited.

I will admit, the live, gameplay demo that you were a part of is a fair bit less professional than what triple-A devs and publishers call for, but honestly, it gives the game a more realistic appearance to what people would expect out of the game, not some either pre-rendered BS that we saw Ubisoft doing in the past or making it look scripted and not so random like in say Battlefield or Need For Speed. There are some things I personally consider as being much more effective for the event than what I'd seen from other developers that make me more excited for this game than I am for other racing games.

When TDU2 came out on Xbox 360 in February 2011, it was awesome!! Despite being a bit buggy, it was very enjoyable, kidding around & exploring. Optimisation can always be issued through updates. My PC has an i7-14700k, RTX 4080, 32GB DDR5, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD.

Always online sounds like a big red flag. I don't really understand why they need that? No way I'm going to pay full price for this if it's always online. It's unfortunate but I've already waited so long I can wait a couple months after launch for it to go on sale.

I never really played test drive online. I now very rarely play online with others, the story and exploration is what I enjoyed. Also just driving around and doing silly things!

Yea i'm a little worried about this game, the graphics look like an early PS4 game lol, car camera is too static in the gameplay videos that it makes it look like the car is floating over the road, not sure why they did that because in the alpha footage where Theo is playing the game, the camera seems to be a little more dynamic. Lack of particle effects etc. They definitely need more time to cook

Im building a pc and one of the major games i want to play is tdu2. I want to play it more as my ps3 version corrupted beyond repair and id like to play it again. I want tdu solar crown to be fun, i eant to play it years from now
We need more competitors in the racing game industry. That competition is what made those old NFS games so great.
I hope they pull through, Test Drive deserves a comeback.
What matters to me is that they deliver that test drive unlimited type of experience with different intractable homes and also flying to different destinations and changing clothes and generally lifestyle perks that this game is known for i hope for this game to be successful

its about to be a bigger failure than any game weve seen in awhile, Forza motorsport has actually a good base snd is pretty enjoyable right now - this game looks terrible and has more effect…. no people walking about its genuinely concerning I was so excited for this game

I lost hope in TDUSC more so on the communication we was promised monthly updates and now it’s like a quarterly update there’s so much they can discuss and they really ant and the lack of console playtests is a worry a game that’s heavy on online only should be tested through all platforms not just PC am fine with q delay just the communication is shocking
Was kind of hyped for the game, but always online is a no for me. Always online reads the same as "Depends on the studio keeping the lights on to continue existing". Really hope they reverse course here because I really love TDU.

I really hope that they patch in an off-line mode at some point, I don’t know whether or not to expect it and I think I’m going to withhold from buying the game until I hear what’s going on on this front. As a blind guy, the last thing I want to do is go smashing into other people online and make somebody upset at me, I just want to play off-line by myself and have my own fun, I really wish in this day and age that wasn’t too much to ask for.
They should have waaaay more / better customzation options. Something like NFS would be sick 😅

TDU has always been about respecting the cars. That's why OEM colours, wheels and interior options are made available. Not every game needs aftermarket customisation. I want Test Drive Unlimited. I don't want another Need for Speed
After what happened with the crew there's a lot of people that would have initially considered getting solar crown but now won't touch it. The devs really need to state if they will make an offline patch available when they shut down servers or enable p2p, or not. What's the point of putting all the time & money into mtx if it's just going to be taken away.

Going off TT3, the ping looks the same online where the other players look like they're jumping about the place. An issue I hope that they fix from TT is the decision to have Vsync off with no option to turn it on resulting on horrible texture pop in which wasn't visible in any trailer
The most worrying part is the more and more delays that happen, the more money it would cost to develop the game and the higher and higher expectations are created... (Biggest worry is the livery mapping in this game is really bad)

Bro, I wanted that game, but I'm not getting it, because: - no Nintendo Switch port - online only - I don't care about the community BS with all those clubs, clothes and shit and it seems that they spent the most time on those items that do not matter at all to me, it's supposed to be a racing game, not a swag simulator - the delay is outrageous - beta I have checked was buggy and pretty poor - I prefer to race AI to racing the other players, because they are unable to race, they confuse racing games with Wreckfest - they abandoned their previous games (TDU and TDU2) and before abandoning they didn't provide offline patches, - the price is absurd, - and so on.
It would be great if certain cars performed better/worse in different terrains, for example a supercar would be terrible off road, get stuck/ground out but a truck would be great, unlike forza, gta etc
I find the much bigger issue than particle effects in that trailer how weightless and floaty those vehicles seem to be.
When it comes to racing games developers gameplay is crucial but they need to understand that attention to detail matters… especially for something like this
I don’t care about delays in the sense of getting the game later, I can happily wait. But it does worry me in that constantly delaying every 6 months for years reeks of development hell and project mismanagement. Guess we’ll just have to see firstly if this actually ever releases and secondly if it’s any good but I grow increasingly sceptical over time.
So hopefull for this game I hope they capture the original atmosphere and expands on the lifestyle flash houses Clothes etc.Forza horizons is so empty and flat and that's being flattering. We need test drive to bring back some spirit and atmosphere to open world car games

If you take most NFS games from the PS2/3 era most of them aged really well even without mods and just the widescreen fix but you can't say the same about TDU2 Atari graphics weren't great it's kind of their "style" just like Bethesda games, they always look 10 years behind in graphics but there's something to these games that make them great.

They are. This was already confirmed in December. The races will only be joined by AI if there are not enough players online.

I have read that they want to build Hongkong 1:1 in the game. This is absolutely insane. No wonder that there is a delay.
