  • One of favorite English proverb is *"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"* (which means beauty is relative to each person and if you don't find yourself beautiful, someone else does) and *"Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house"*

  • Thank you for saying the proverbs in English. Of theses five proverbs what I think best is "the grass is always greener" because it gives us the exactly idea of how people usually think about the particular situation of others, giving only importance to the positive side and abstracting the bad circumstances.

  • In America we use a great many proverbs, such as "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" and similarly, "Beggars can't be choosers" both of which basically mean People who are given something can't be selective. A few other commonly used ones are: "All's well that ends well" - As long as the outcome is good, the difficulty getting there was worth it. "When it rains, it pours" - When something happens, it usually happens with great intensity and frequency. (Usually uttered after a negative series of events i.e. lost your keys causing you to be late then left your phone at home or the battery dies and then a tire pops on the way to work) "Actions speak louder than words" - Prove what you say by your actions. "Better late than never" - Better to do something late than to not do it at all. "Better safe than sorry" - Better to do something carefully and cautiously than to suffer the consequences later. "Curiosity killed the cat" - People who are too inquisitive and meddlesome can get themselves into trouble. "Every dog has its day" - Every person will have their moment of glory.

  • In Italy we have all of these as well! Some of them (like the 4th, the 1st and the 2nd) are the exact translation of the ones we use here in Italy. We have a proverb which is "volere è potere", which litterally means "if you want you can", which is like the 5th you said, and then we have "paese che vai, usanze che trovi" which is similar to the 3rd one ("if you're in Rome, do as Romans do"). Litterally it means "when you go to a country, you find its customs". But obviously there are a bunch of other proverbs used in Italy! We seriously have a lot

  • Hey Lucy and thank you for this video. I'm from Moscow and like study and watch by your videos. Probably you'll find interesting how to tell and pronounce this proverbs in Russian. I try translate its for you: 1. "Хорошо там, где нас нет" (khorosho tum g'de nus net). Is good there is no us. 2. "Встречают по одежке, провожают по уму" (vstrechuyt po odejke - provojayut po umu). Meet by look, see off by mind(intellect) 3. "В чужой монастырь со своим уставом не ходят." (V chujoy monustyr' so svoim ustuvom ne khodyat). Don't go to another church with you own rules. Also we have some another several proverbs on this. 4. "Дело мастера боится" (delo mustera boitsya). A business scary of a master. Or more popular but less of same: "Терпение и труд все перетрут" (terpenie i trud vse peretrud). A Patience and a labor may grind anything. 5. "Было бы желание, а возможность найдётся." (Bilo by jelanie a vojmojnost' naudetsya." May a wish (there, with you, him, etc..), and a possibility will be find." I hope it was interesting for you and thank you for the video again! Greetings from Russia!
