Hello:) if you're taking the time to read the description, I love you extra more hehe As I'm closing a big chapter in my life, I wanted to reflect and reminisce before moving on. Not going to lie, it kind of scares me to be this truthful and vulnerable on the internet but *please, don't forget that I am only speaking from MY experience.*
No where is perfect. I am not perfect either. There are pros and cons wherever you go. There are so many variables, such as I may not have been as good of a person as I thought I was, or that people who treated me wrongly were just having a bad day. So from this video, I am NOT implying that KU sucks, South Korea sucks.
Along with disappointing moments, I had great memories too! I cannot diminish the great friends, memories, opportunities I received while attending Korea University. So thank you for letting me wrap things up and graduate in peace :) Also, if you've ever felt regretful or disappointed cus things didn't live up to your expectations, I hope that this video helped you realize you're not alone and that it's okay not to be okay. I do hope you find/found peace and happiness in the midst cus there always is a silver lining if you're willing to patiently wait and look close enough :)
I still sometimes wonder what it would have been like if I went to university in a western country. I guess we will never know..but I will forever be proud to call myself a KU tiger ;)

  • Congratulations on graduating and getting a job! What an awe-inspiring video from the beginning to the end. The storytelling, editing, cinematography, and overall captivating experience. I can totally understand where you are coming from and feeling like you don't belong. But, like you mentioned in this video, going through a struggle like this has made you realize certain things and grow as a person. Anyway, don't want to write a novel so wish you the best you are an amazing person who is more than capable of achieving all your goals and can do anything. I'll see you when I see you...

  • Joo-Ok!!!! I love this video! I would love to share this to my Korean students who probably feel similar feelings in the future, as well. I appreciate how you were able to capture and learn from the dichotomy of life as an adult third culture kid, and girl, trust me! Many can totally relate to this 🎉 keep on making such cool content! Will be fangirling from Indonesia! PS: love seeing all the familiar Chiangmai places and faces ❤

  • Beautiful video essay. The title "my biggest regret: coming to Korea University" doesn't fit the content though, it sounds like you did appreciate the experiences you went through in the end.

  • Hear me out, okay? As someone with a not-so joyful childhood and having changed 5 schools just till high school, I can guarantee that if I was in your place, I would have disintegrated and broken apart. But, because you actually 'lived' your childhood, you are like really really positive. And I just hope you know how privileged that is. I pray that you're always this positive during every endeavor in your life and pick yourself up just like this whenever you feel you're down. Loveeeeeeeeee ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  • I had a bad child hood while living with my mum, and when she kicked me out i had to sleep on my grannys floor with my sister while looking after my baby sister with my dad and i currently still am. I felt as if i had to grow up to fast and not enjoy my teenage life, i say that as if im 20 already when im only 14 years old because it felt as if everything is all over so soon... I really want to attend Yonsei university but do not have to grades for it. I feel as if i really belong in yonsei university even though i have not been there yet. I want to get a law degree and become a judge if i can. However my dreams are really high but my grades arent, im not sure whether i should blame my mum for raising me in her abusive care. But this video showed me that everyone has different experiences and it is different for everyone...

    • There's always a way! Even if you can't get into Yonsei you can do study abroad semesters/summer semesters/years in college! Since you are still young you can look up scholarships and apply to as many as u can! The earlier the better! I think it is possible! I think there might be some study-abroad options for high schoolers too but I don't know much about them. I wish you the very best! You can do this! And for study tips, I don't know what your situation is exactly but for me what worked is if you can spend time in libraries and do Pomodro (which works for me haha) for maybe 2-3 hours every day you could definitely get good grades! I did some asynchronous college courses from a program in high school and would spend 4 hours in the library every day and finish the entire week's worth of homework + learn the content by Wednesday of the same week. Then you could make flashcards as you go and then have study material before quizzes. If you can't go to the library try having a consistent study schedule that is realistic (and small enough to where you do it) and getting noise-canceling headphones/headphones with brown noise on to drown the noise out it might help. For classes, there are different study methods like chemistry/math -- (my organic chemistry tutor on KZhead & other youtube tutorials) + whiteboards OR just normal paper where you redo the questions over and over and over again until you memorize how to do it History/Health/Biology courses -- notes + make flashcard questions to EVERY section + draw out pictures and mind-maps of concepts I HIGHLY recommend using Google Calendar to time-block your schedule as realistic as possible. Make sure that you have a specific end-time so it doesn't feel like you are studying forever + it's a motivation to finish your work before the time ends. It's genuinely how everyone I know stays sane as pre-med students haha. These are honestly very vague things that helped me and might not work for you but I feel very confident that you can get the grades you want and you can get to Yonsei University and/or become a lawyer! (and a quick google search about studying in abusive households is trying to stay away from home as long as possible -- hopefully in libraries or maybe cafes) I hope the best for you! You should not have to be in this situation as a 14-year-old old and I love the motivation you have 🥺 You can do it!

  • well, you felt life. I do experience things like this even in my home country at work, with other people. I do feel often that I did not fit in. but without the pain, as you tell, you would never grown to the person you are right now.
