This great song by "Chris Rea" was first released in 1986 as a non album single, but it was not until 1988 that it got to number 53 in the UK singles chart, and it re entered the UK charts in 2007 where this time it made it to number 33. i think this is a great song and should have been a number 1 hit..While i am here i would like to take this Opportunity in wishing all my friends and subscribers a Happy Christmas and the best of luck and good health for the coming new year...   • This song was a favorite of my dad in the 1980s. Fast forward thirty years and he and I are driving during a mild snow and this song comes on. He starts singing it and I'm in tears...you see my dad, at that point, was suffering from end-stage Alzheimer's; he didn't even know who I was. He had all but forgotten how to speak in simple sentences. But when this song started playing, it's like the lightbulb came on and he started singing, not missing a single word. This song will always hold a special place in my heart!

  • My brother drives truck part time from his main job now and then to help a friend's business and to make a little extra money for he and his wife and four daughters at home. He was coming home for Christmas a couple years ago (Good Story!) and he had it worked out that when he got two miles from home in his truck, he texted me to gather everyone around the TV and I played this for everyone. At the end of the song....my brother was heard driving down the long driveway and up to the house in his truck to the happy screams of his daughters...it was just a really cool thing for everyone and especially for a guy who'd been gone for 5 days who made it home for Christmas with his family. Just thought I'd share a very special moment with this song. Merry Christmas everyone.

  • Who's here in May 2024 anyone? I don't normally listen xmas songs this time of year, but I have been historically learning about The Great Chris Rea. Fun Fact. Chris was skint and his wife was him driving home for Christmas and as he got home and opened the the door, there was a letter on the floor with a big fat cheque in it for his legendary 'fool if you think it's over ' song. Hence the reason for this song. Love it.and love him.

  • I used to drive home for Christmas every year to see my father. I used to play this song every year in the car with big anticipation of meeting him and the whole family. Now he's passed away 2 years ago and all I have is "a thousand memories" of good family times with my father... And "I sing for you, though you can't hear me"...

  • This song always reminds me of my late Grandad… We lost him back in Feb 2022 and this song has been hard to listen to… Until about a week ago when I went to visit his grave. I told him what had happened in my life since he left us and apologised repeatedly for not being there at his house the day he passed (I was at school). I left with tears streaming down my face whilst hugging my mum. We got to our car and drove out of the village… We decided to put on some Christmas music, and coincidentally, this is the first song that played… We both laughed and teared up, thinking my grandad had to of been listening to me and remembered me saying how I thought of him whilst this song was playing. I can finally listen to this song with a smile on my face again… Love you, Grampy! And I hope you sit with us to the table on Christmas Day, complaining how the gravy isn’t like water, just how you use to love it…🥹💞🙏🏻

  • I'm very sure I have heard this song before in past Christmas, but I just don't remember it. This year I cannot get it out of my head. Here it is the end of January 2024 and I am still listening to it nearly everyday. It reminds me so much of my husband who died in 2015. Christmas was our favorite time of the year, and I miss him so much.

  • This song reminds me of when I was a truck driver for a company TMC. I was was on my way home from my last run Christmas Eve listing to this song. Well, I was home almost every weekend when I was working for TMC. That Christmas when I was home, I found out my wife was pregnant with my little girl. This little girl is now 14 and the best thing along with getting married to my wife that has ever happened to me! Merry Christmas everyone!
