  • My first two teachers were from Taiwan. They taught us "做买卖“ for "do business" and "铺子“ for store. When I first moved to the Mainland, I was like, "商业?What's that?" Other people were so confused when I used the word 铺子. It took me a while to learn and switch over to 商店.

    • Actually I think "做买卖" and "铺子“ are both easy for mainland Chinese to understand , especially in northern part of China

    • 做买卖&铺子 are also in active use in mainland. i don't get your point. it seems you just need to enlarge your vocabulary and that's not difficult to achieve.

    • maybe it was because of your inaccurate pronunciation that confused the other people.

  • They are just the same languages but the accent of them is different. Just like British English and American English. Taiwanese also speak Hokkien. Hokkien is totally different from Mandarin. In China, it is thought as a dialect, but in fact it is a language. The relationship between Hokkien and Mandarin is like English and German. German is more difficult than English, because its grammar and vocabulary is more complex. Hokkien has more tones and the pronunciation is more complex than Mandarin, so Hokkien is more difficult than Mandarin.

  • The heck is Chinese mandarin vs Taiwanese mandarin? What point are you trying to make? Care to explain why on earth Taiwan is called the Republic of China? How is Taiwan not a part of China if that’s what the constitution in Taiwan says? Doesn’t that make them Chinese? You mean mainland mandarin and Taiwan mandarin. You turned something apolitical into a political statement without any real validity or justification. 99% of people who advocate for Taiwan independence say that Taiwan is a country. However how can you be a country if you haven’t gained your independence? Why on earth are people so obsessed with making Chinese people fight each other instead of advocating for peace. Using the word Mandarin is just an attempt to remove the Chinese out of it and make it seem as though it’s not a language of Chinese Origin spoken by the chinese.

    • @@user-qj3th5pt6e I think it speaks volumes that you need to question someone’s sanity because you have no argument to make. I’m not here attacking mainland Chinese nor Taiwanese Chinese people. I’m just making a statement about words, and how they matter. I can perfectly understand that you may see things differently and nobody can tell you what your identity should be. I’d suggest you read your constitution or check your ID. It’s been a decades long effort to turn the Chinese against each other when it shouldn’t be. I think it’s fair to say everyone in the mainland wants peace. And there’s no country on earth that wants to be broken up. Why should China be the exception? Why do certain people mainly from the west have an obsession with propaganda about Taiwan being a country. If you want to make the argument of it being a country then you need to look at international recognition, and only a few handful of island nations recognise the RoC not even Taiwan. Your constitution also doesn’t say anything you’re trying to imply, so if anyone should be in a mental institution should be you. When you turn on your tv and your people compete in sports events as Chinese Taipei do you ask them 你神经病吗? It’s Taiwanese Taipei. So what now? Are you 50% Japanese and aborigine that I touched a nerve? there’s only one China, refer to your own constitution dear. I didn’t say anything wrong or anything that’s “politically incorrect”. Just because my argument is against your political view doesn’t mean it’s not backed up by facts.

    • @@hejksbwvxjajvfuxuwhevixnqvdjx I have no issue with Taiwanese having their own identity and wanting to be independent. That’s their view and I respect I. I just don’t think it’s right though to for these people on this channel to be pushing propaganda by implying there are two countries or that they get to define what China is. China is more than just the mainland, that’s the international consensus as per the United Nations and every country on earth that has diplomatic relations with either the mainland or tw and it’s precisely what the constitutions on both sides of the strait say.
