When my house is too cold for bread proofing, I put it in the oven with a hot water bottle. Easy and cost effective. Thanks for another vlag, I'm enjoying it while I knit and sip my tea.
I’ll try that next time!
I do similar but I use a cool bag and hot water bottle. X
One trick I use is preheat your oven to 200* for 1 minute, so when you touch the rack it's warm but won't burn your hand. Then put your dough in to proof!
This is brilliant, I've been doing this and it definitely speeds it up well!
@@woollymammothfibres awesome!! 🙌
The third and fourth design sweaters are the nicest. 💖 Either of them will be beautiful. 🤗 Cheers.
I am a baker and I regularly make sourdough Einkorn boule style bread. I live in the U.S. up by the Canadian border and it gets really cold here in the mountains. To bake in the winter I turn my oven into a proofer/prover. Put your covered dough in the oven and add a pan of boiling water in the oven and close the door. I usually only have to reheat the water once during the rise, just check it every 30 minutes. I also have a propane stove/oven that always has a pilot light lite in it, so that adds a tiny bit of warmth to the oven also.
Emma you can put your bread/levain on a hot water bottle or a heating pad on low. In Alaska my bread lives there and my kombucha jar wears a scarf 🤷🏻♀️🤣
The Niji in that green wool would be so beautiful
love these type of vlogs...A little bit of knitting a little bit of coziness, love it..
Definitely the eun in the olive green.....it'll look stunning! 😊
This really helped my home-sickness for thirty minutes 😌🩷
November knits, high split, it is very modern looking. I like the colourwork you are wearing😊
Perfect color on that loave of bread!
Lovely vlog Emma! I feel like your eyes lit up when you were talking about the last colour work one so I'd go for that simply because the experience will be more fun for you!
this was so cosy and perfect company for knitting socks :) thank you! Have a look at Crebea's patterns, maybe the Stick season sweater? Seems simple but with some interest
Bread and cake gorgeous but can't stop staring at your knitwear :)
Lovely vlog. I like all your sweater options. If I could knit just one , it would be the Moinear!
I think the two colour sweater would really show up the colours 😊
Really like the Port Sweater!
Emma, I truly enjoy having a peek at your life. I’m going to make granola soon. You’ve inspired me to get out recipes I’ve not made in a long time. I may try sourdough too! Sweater…hmm you want color work…a nice neckline…the interest at the bottom…sleeves not too big. Sounds like you need to create a pattern!
Your bread looks delicious Emma. The first of the three “plain” jumpers you showed looks like it has some interesting details so maybe that would be enough to keep you interested? Also, if you end up casting on the plain and the colour-work jumpers around the same time that might give you enough variation to keep going with both? Personally I like to have a range of projects on the go so I can knit what I’m in the mood for!
If your dog isn't too curious just set up a table next to your wood stove in the living room and have it sit next to the fire. Maybe if you have a thermometer stick it in your dough and try different things and see what gives it the optimum temp for rising.
Always inspiring us Emma 😀
Another lovely vlog, Emma! I’m actually currently wearing my Saglan as I was watching and am hoping to cast another on this winter. But all of the patterns that you highlighted are stunning.
You are an amazing baker! Congratulations on the sourdough...always a challenge. Love both knits you wear in this episode. Am using your wool to knit socks for my sister's birthday just now, and thinking of Irish sheep as I knit. Greetings from California, where it (sadly) isn't yet raining as Autumn comes through.
Lovely post. Thank you. LOVE the green sweater with the color work flowers at the neck!
Wow your making me hungry with all that baking and I just love the fairisle sweater your wearing the colours are beautiful x
I’m knitting The Lakes pullover by Ozetta right now. It’s quite plain similar to the one you showed, but saddle shoulder construction and it’s been interesting to knit! Love your videos, thanks for sharing
GM Emma I loved spending time with you baking etc and all your knits especially your cardigan looks beautiful on you ❤ Your green you picked out will look amazing on you As always I loved your podcast 😊🥰
Im looking forward to your Vlogmas this year, I really enjoyed watching your Vlogmas last year. I remember the avalanche of firewood, the invigorating coastal walks, the cozy and fun moments of family life, and the Benjamin Amos gig 🎶🪵🎄🪕🍰🥰
Lovely homely vlog Emma and a Happy 2nd Birthday for your little girl. The olive yarn is absolutely beautiful and I think would look stunning knitted in the Moinear pattern. Maybe if the neck line doesn’t sit right for you, you could knit the neck area higher?
Loved your podcast today whilst I was knitting and proving my pumpkin cinnamon loaf. A brioche kind of loaf recipe I found on Instagram and I added pecans! I’ve tried sourdough a few times but yours looks so professional 😊
Enjoyed your podcast. Your bread looks so delicious and your cake as well.😊
your sourdough looks beautiful! as for sweater choices, it's hard to vote! I think the one by eri shimizu is nice...I knit the konomi pullover by her and loved it! Perhaps you could add a little texture down the sleeves to make it more exciting to knit?
Love watching your vlogs. THe bread looks yummy
Ohhh do the Port in your gorgeous olive green and I love the detail of the lines at the sleeve top. I would want to highlight the green yarn without a yoke pattern just because it's such a lovely color. Yes my sourdough starter has also slowed down in this cooler weather.
I really like the Niji pullover...and maybe would knit this one myself - so thanks for showing it! I make Marie Wallin fair isle garments most of the time so fancy the idea of a straight forward one colour knit that looks so comfortable and easy to wear on a cold day. New to you but have enjoyed your vlog...thank you!
Your bread looks so good. I also want all the simple knits- easier to wear/pair but rather knit something to keep interest. I really enjoyed this episode.
My proofing trick is boil a mug of water in the microwave put the bowl in with it and it proofs so well
You might like Braids of Grass by Ailbíona, it’s the right weight of yarn and has a fab neckline. I love mine! Lovely to spend time with you as always Emma ❤
Isabell Kraemer’s Rime would look wonderful in your yarns. It’s a contiguous construction with color blocking that would showcase the olive and a contrast color across the shoulders.
I thought your sourdough looked really good! Hope it tasted as good as it looked. Sweatah weathah...I think two is the best answer...the Monair is beautiful...and those yarns together...well yes! Then the Niji, in another solid or the green as well... it's a lovely color. Enjoyed your cozy vlog. Thank you!
Love your lifestyle .
moinear or niji... happy birthday to your little one 🎈🎉 . Love the little hedgehog family
An enjoyable vlog Emma ! Your cake and your bread look sooo good. For the sweater, I have the Niji in my Ravelry, but I have the Nukunuku by Noriko Ichikawa too, and I think I prefer the last one and would probably make it first. You have the Natures Cardigan by Ozetta, and I've just cast on it : for me it's a cardigan but with the fit/warmth of a sweater...
One thing I do for my starter when it gets slow (mine take like 12 hours to be bubbly now due to low room temperatures) is to put it above my fridge where the warm air makes it a bit warmer. Otherwise I put it on a chair in front of our fireplace, but it’s more unpredictable 😊 The bread looks so tasty 🤩
Loved watching your cozy, homey vlog. I think the Port sweater would look lovely. I have favorited one you might want to look at - Piney Ridge by Laura Aylor.
Hi, love your relaxing blogs/garden/Rufus/knitting/wool/etc! On sourdough, I’ve made it a lot over the years but now stick with ‘Bake with Jack’s’ method which has lots of similarities with yours but isn’t such a lengthy process. He uses the scrapings methods for the starter (he’s on youtube) but uses 200grams of starter and 900grams of flour which makes two loaves. I’ve found that I can put them both in the fridge in the evening, bake one in the morning and the other the following morning - using the bake from the fridge foodbod method and it turns out just as good as the first loaf! However, it is definitely true that the starter takes longer to get going in the colder weather and if making bread regularly it probably isn’t even necessary to put it in the fridge all the time. I also make oval loaves - they take up less space in the fridge and are a bit more user friendly - hope that helps!! Your sourdough does look great - fancy scoring!!
Emma qué rico como cocinas !!! Feliz cumpleaños a tu niña 2 años 💕 me encantan tus tejidos saludos desde Uruguay 🇺🇾
Having the same kind of issues as you in deciding on a next sweater. I was considering Ozetta’s Seaway Sweater as it combines a cozy knit but has some textural details that would make the knitting more interesting than plain stockinette and ribbing. Take a look at it if you have the chance, and thanks for your podcast!
I think you need one of each ;) of the non-Moinear options, I would go for the Niji since it fits your specifications the best.
Thank you for a wonderful vlog. I’d say go the moniear by the way your face lit up when talking about it. ❤from Australia Carly
It's likely the temperature of your house, mine is actually slowing down which is fine for us. If you keep it in a warmer place in the house, not hot but warmer it will get busy. If you have a stone hearth for your stove you can put it near there or on it if it isn't too hot. If I have lots of laundry to do with the dryer (bedding) I will proof my bread on top of the dryer in my laundry cupboard. Another idea with the oven, if you put it in on the top shelf then put a pan on the bottom shelf with a pan you can pour boiling water in then change it out ever half hour. A heating pad works too, just don't let it get too warm or you will have a mess! LOL The heat of your house is also why the honey is so thick!
The Moinear is beautiful, I love all Ailbiona's designs (currently making her Penisular Vest)
Now I'm hungry-lol! I love your measuring out of spices, not sure that's how a measuring spoon works😉, but I bet it was delicious! 😋
Hahaha yes I don’t really do measuring spices 😂 life is too short
I think you are leaning towards the colorwork sweater at the end. I’m so glad you’re doing vlogmas.
Dear Emma, your vlog this afternoon. The perfect distraction while the baby was napping (unfortunately only 25 minutes...). During spring and autumn I put my sourdough as close to the stove as possible as often, beside a teapot or in the afterwarmth in the oven. I experienced the same slowness in rising as you when the house gets cooler. I would opt for the Eun-sweater. I really like the silhouette and the details. However, probably I would do more narrow sleeves as well. Greetings from the Swedish West Coast, Barbara
Dear Emma, thank you for the vlog ...
In the order that you showed the options, I vote for number 3, #4 has the interesting color work but not the neck line that you want. Your cake looks yummy - carrot cake is my husband’s favorite cake.
You sound more interested in the Moinear. 😊
I like the Niji
Cake and sourdough looks amazing!! I’ve just shown my husband your bread knife and he wants to know where you got it. It’s always so hard to cut a loaf I find!

Definitely just need to knit one of each type! What about the Ribbed Jumper by Anne Ventzel. I haven't knitted it but looks like the shape you like for the more practical one-colour but just a bit more interest (the underarms may not be super practical though for fitting under a coat). She also has that Badger and Bloom sweater that I have had my eye on! I don't think you can go wrong with that olive colour though - I've got a couple skeins of it in natural sock too that i'm toying to hold double w/ causeway for my next cast on (a cardigan for my little girl). I really love the motif of the Moinear too though...i see your dilemma. I'm no help..
👍!Hello my friend, it looks so good! Love it! ❤
Hi Emma :) did you consider the Dropp sweater by Ailbiona? There are a lot of different options in it and it looks so good... it would be beautiful in your green yarn
Please can you create a pattern for the socks! I love them ❤❤❤
Have you thought about the Naima DK pullover or the stick season sweater by Rebecca Clow
Love the cardigan and shawl you are wearing to go on your walk!! Are those patterns available now? OMG…The sweater you’re wearing, while you are showing Sweater No. 18, is beautiful!! Love the colors.❤ What style sweater do you think looks best on you? Drop shoulder does not look good on me. The yoke sweater you’re wearing and the cardigan looks SO nice on you. I love the November Knits sweater and Ailbiona’s green Moinear sweater!! Knit both! Also love the Ainsley….😂 Looking forward to baking something!!
Cardigan pattern not available yet, the Ferny Corner Shawl is out now on my website and Ravelry :)
@@woollymammothfibres Thank you!
Hi Emma!! Another great vlog! I know you've worn it in a previous podcast, but what is the pattern of the beautiful colorwork sweater you're wearing in the segment where you're looking for suggestions for your next project? Also, I'm assuming you used your yarn. Yes? Do you know when the Grandpa Cardigan pattern will be available? Thank you!! Also, your bread and carrot cake look YUMMY!! 🎂💗🎈
The Riddari I think!
Enjoyed that cozy blog,,Emma! Everything looked great,,,, ElaineXoxo 🍄🍁
Ohhhhhh that’s a cool knife for your bread
It was kindly recommended by someone who seen I struggled to cut my sourdough! It’s very good
Maybe Lenu by Ankestrick with a higher neck would be an option
what sourdough timing method did you say you follow? loved this!
Foodbod Sourdough
M y dad makes an amazing source dough cake
I use the oven with the light on if it's too chilly in the house. Are you feeding your starter when you remove it from the fridge? I'm the same with the compost pile. Think of how nature does it, it'll be okay.
Yes I am, although I can confirm it does take the 12hrs in this cold house to get bubbly and happy
@@woollymammothfibresokay, I guess it's just sluggish in the cold, kinda like us humans.😂
I am so jealous. What do you not know how to do? I figured you must be human afterall when you spilled abit of granola. Super woman!
keep a house tidy lol it's impossible
I know this is really a random question but what knife do you use for your sourdough? It looks perfect for not getting doorstops and would be perfect for Christmas lol
www.fiddlebowbreadknives.co.uk/ it is fantastic and was recommended by a subscriber!
What is the sweater you are wearing at the very beginning ? looks lovely,
Probably the Riddari or the Dropp!
Although your bread looks very nice, if you want it to rise higher you might want to shape it a bit tighter to give it more structure. I don‘t find the english word for the German word „schleifen“ which is pulling the loaf on the working surface with nearly no flour so it sticks a bit …. you pull it towards you and because it sticks, the surface is stretched …don‘t know if thats understandable 😂 if a find a reel on IG I‘ll send it to you
going to try this, thanks for suggesting!
Hallo meine liebe, ich finde leider dein Brotrezept nicht liebe Grüße Evelyn
It’s Foodbod Sourdough the recipe :) don’t think I mentioned that
