There's better alternatives out there, GW are probably one of the most bloated and overpriced miniature wargaming companies out there. Seriously, try stuff like Oathmark by Northstar, it's like a breath of fresh air and is reminiscent of how warhammer used to be before it became normified

Lydia colour scheme was really unique. You don't see a lot of metallic coloured tyranids

This is exactly the sort of content this channel needed -- a series about new players with an interest in the game. Since you're sponsored now (okay, maybe just this video but) maybe we could see Tom and Ben do Old World/AoS. Maybe something like Path to Glory or Tale of Four Warlords where you start with a fresh army. Also very interesting that Ravs fell into his chapter and they had such an interesting colour scheme!
Ben and Tom overseeing 4 newbie Yogs in a proper Tale of 4 gamers series spread out over 6 months would be freaking amazing.
@@wisecrack4545 That would be phenomenal. They did attempt something like this early in the battle boys thing where a lot of people were joining painting streams, but this sort of fizzled out. Understandably so, it's a big commitment. But something like that with classic battleboys necromunda style progression would be amazing

I think it was clever to have the vents be the capture radius of the objectives to make it easier to visualize for newer players rather than have them measure each time
Honestly tyrranids with golden carapace look stunning
Okay I was unsure at first about the golden Tyranids, but they've actually turned out really cool and unique, especially the ones with a bit more detail and rendering. I don't think I've ever seen Tyranids done like that before. Good job to Lydia!

On the one hand yeah, but terrible for a (promotional) video where the opponent was also black and yellow. Ben was right that the purple would've popped once all finished with wash and highlights.

Absolutely glorious. I love that they showed the full process from start to finish, I'm somehow not surprised at all that Lydia went for gross bug alien monsters. And of course the standard Games Night editing was absolutely on point with the little blood spatters and burn marks as things got ripped up left and right. Congrats to Lydia for her first ever Warhammer win! Congrats to Ravs for murdering a lot of big scary bugs! And congrats to Tom and Ben for not being Brand Risks and getting sponsored. I'm proud of all of you. And I'd also looooove to see something like this again, so much fun.

All jokes aside, Tom, Ben, Lydia, and Ravs were great salesmen due to their sincerity. As someone else who's never played 40k, they made it look like an absolute blast. Don't know if I'd ever wind up giving it a try, but given I most definitely wouldn't have otherwise, I'd say that's mission success.
And from all available factions, they happened to pick exactly the two that are in the Starter Set. What a bloody coincidence!

Even though this is sponsored, I'd say it's one of the proudest moments when one of your friends (who doesn't know anything about wargaming) asks you to help them get into the hobby. Also, I think Lydia's paint theme is pretty glorious. Edit: Also also, I remember Lydia talking to Tom about how she doesn't really understand the appeal of wargaming - but if it meant bonus points for her upon meeting Henry Cavill, she'd be the biggest Warhammer nerd. Now she can actually claim to have built, painted and played a game with her own Tyranids and won.
I really love how you guys make content in a fresh way. The feeling of friend's sitting around a table rehashing a battle quickly is such a smart way of showing Warhammer on KZhead. It makes the game something actually engaging to watch

Ravs: I want to be black and yellow, are there any space marines like that? Tom: Yes. this chapter hates Tyranids after they got wrecked by them. And Ravs now invested in the lore made sure to make the battle historically accurate.
this quick combat patrol battle camera looks so much better than the big competisions for some reason. I had a blast watching this and I cannot wait to get my first set today
this is what it's all about! fantastic video, good fun was had by all. i loved the relaxed post-game discussion method of showing a battle report, it really kept me interested, i'm not a battle report lover and normally zone out in general but i stuck with this all the way through, partly the format and partly the narrative of the whole video, taking two beginners and getting them through their first battle. thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish!
You should turn this format into a series! It's really fun and informative!

I enjoy that Ravs' plan during deployment was to stick together and avoid getting picked off, and then his first move on the first turn was to split up and go in opposite directions.

Not having come across the channel before, I've gotta say how much I enjoyed this video. And it looks like everyone involved did too. I *loved* Lydia's final colour scheme, which I'd have never thought to try or would've worked, but it really came together nicely. Ravs getting straight into the characterisation of his army and naming things, coming up with stories on the fly was great to see and shows well the passion that gets inspired from the game... A cool experiment to go from 0-a fully painted force and game in a day, that paid off well. Lastly, I want to say how enjoyable that battle report was - it wasn't bogged down in finer details, or the minutiae and numbers and seeing every roll... We got the sense of the battle, it was fast paced, we got to see highlights of player reactions, the casual chatting about cool moments and how things felt in retrospect overlayed on top of it was a really nice detail and some cool edits going on there as well! *Really* nicely produced :)
Well this video has absolutely sold me on contrast paints, seeing how the models turned out was really impressive especially if it was all done in an afternoon! Ravs and Lyds having a blast with it and getting into the memes was so fun to watch, I wish more wargame tutorials and battle reports were like this, kinda goofy and fun rather than super serious. Makes for better watching!

Really loved watching this. While I appreciate this is a sponsored video it was still phenomenal to see two adults who have never been into wargaming per se then be introduced to the seminal game. There are better games out there, but 40k is the stereotytpical household name. I'm a quadragenarian and this reminded me of introducing my 10yo son to Tyranids 🤣Props to Tom and Ben for keeping things interesting and as simple as possible.
