Career - 1959 Full Movie

162 490 Рет қаралды

Starring Dean Martin, Shirley MacLaine & Anthony Franciosa.
Like the show, actor Sam Lawson (Franciosa) must go on. He's determined to make it on the New York stage, even when the road to success becomes a long, challenging detour that tests all his talent, resources & will. Adapted by James Lee from his Broadway play & featuring a colorful array of footlight types: an opportunistic, me-first director (Martin); a spoiled rich girl (MacLaine) whose priorities are men & booze; a young wife (Joan Blackman) whose marriage fortunes rise & fall with the theater curtain; & an agent (Carolyn Jones) who's learned the ropes the hard way. Their lives cross--& sometimes double cross--with Lawson's in this well-crafted, knowing film nominated for 3 Academy Awards (R).

  • Thank you very much for posting this movie, a forgotten gem, rarely seen on tv and impossible to purchase from the usual platforms. Everything about it is excellent, the story, production and acting. All first rate. About Dean Martin, after his supreme showmanship as a singer, light comedian, tv star and all round personality, it's easy to forget just how accomplished an actor he really was.👍 dramatic roles such as those in RIO BRAVO, SOME CAME RUNNING, THE YOUNG LIONS, TOYS IN THE ATTIC but above all here in CAREER show us his multi faceted talent at it's best. Boy, do I miss him. Thanks again.

A fabulous film with impeccable acting, stage direction, cinematography, direction, camera.......everything about this film is what films are, or should be, all about. The name Sam lawson should be in every would-be actors script, every dressing room, on every dashboard, every fridge door.....forget Withnail and I........here is the stark truth of the acting world......with, I might add,a superb ending. • I'd never heard of this quality film - good story, rounded characters in complex relationships, very well acted, rather unpredictable. Rather surprisingly, the film also deals with the blacklist, and I find Dalton Trumbo had an uncredited hand in the screenplay. Mind you, American movies about showbiz often offer the lie that if you're talented and keep plugging away you will eventually achieve success. It might have been a slightly more accurate film if - SPOILER ALERT - it had ended with the hero returning to off-Broadway struggling. This might have made the final lines more poignant. I suspect the original play had this ending.

But I found him fascinating. I he wasn't so damn to work he could have been a huge star. He was a very good actor, and damn he was handsome. But Tony, or Anthony (depending) on which name he was using. And he is missed.
