Bhimbetka, nestled within the Vindhya mountain range in Madhya Pradesh, India, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its captivating rock shelters and ancient cave paintings.
These shelters, dating back over 30,000 years, serve as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of early human civilizations.
The paintings here depict scenes of daily life, hunting expeditions, and religious rituals, offering invaluable insights into prehistoric human existence.
Bhimbetka's significance extends beyond its artistic treasures; it serves as a window into the evolution of human culture and creativity, making it a site of immense archaeological and anthropological importance.
Visiting Bhimbetka is like stepping back in time and experiencing the vivid narratives painted by our ancestors on the canvas of stone.
To reach Bhimbetka rock shelters, one can follow these directions:
1. By Air: The nearest airport to Bhimbetka is the Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal, which is approximately 45 kilometres away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or use other public transportation to reach Bhimbetka.
2. By Train: The nearest railway station to Bhimbetka is the Bhopal Junction Railway Station, which is well-connected to major cities across India. From Bhopal, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Bhimbetka, which is around 45 kilometres away.
3. By Road: Bhimbetka is easily accessible by road. It is located about 45 kilometres south of Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. You can drive to Bhimbetka via National Highway 46, which connects Bhopal to other cities in the region.
Once you arrive near Bhimbetka, you can follow signboards and directions to the entrance of the rock shelters. From there, you may need to walk a short distance to access the main site and explore the fascinating rock paintings and shelters.
The entry fee is just Rs. 150 ($1.80) per car. There is no entry fee for the caves.

I will say Drew Binsky and Yes Theory/Seek Discomfort have been to cave drawings in Southern Iraq, and in Aboriginal areas of Australia archaelogists have placed as 30,000 years old, and 60,000 years old (prehistoric man), respectively. The human art world may have started only a few hundred miles from your origin in New Zealand, Karl! How great is that? You're my go-to for Indian and Pakistani cuisine.

That way it is shown as though the civilization is recent and came from Central Asia …. Which is far from the truth!

They were still living in the Paleolithic while North Indian rulers were having interaction with the Greeks and the Chinese and waging wars all over the subcontinent, building massive cities and having armies of thousands of elephants and horses. The interactions that happened between the "advanced" North Indians and the hunters from Central India would have been so fascinating. Imagine seeing horses for the first time, imagine getting to learn agriculture for the first time. It was no less fascinating than the interactiom between Europeans and Native Americans.

    • Hey Bro. Don't worry; it's normal for a channel like mine, which covers so many different topics. Plus I probably peaked 2 years ago. But I'm still very happy creating videos. My reels are really popular these days.
